Getting Ready for the Holidays... email this discussion to a friend?

I can't believe it's almost September already, but in a lot of ways I'm excited about it. I'm always sad to see summer go, because I love spending time outdoors, but when the fall comes that means it's time to start getting ready for the holidays and that's a big anticipation each year.

Ever since I started selling on Etsy, I've started to get excited about this time of year more and more. It's so crazy busy with making things, taking pictures, getting things listed in the shop, getting ready for craft shows, doing all the fun stuff that comes along with family and holidays and all of that... not to mention football season and all the yummy goodies that we like to eat in the fall and winter months. Oy!

So. It's time. It's time to start thinking about the change of seasons, the latest trends if your target market depends on it, and also thinking about what new big ideas you can come up with for the coming holiday shopping months ahead.

I've always thought that the holiday shopping season was a great time to really build your business because you are exposed to such a rush of people during that time, that if you can really please them when they buy from you, perhaps they'll come back after the holidays are long gone, and become a repeat customer as well.

My plans this year are to do a couple of craft shows, one in mid November, and one in early December, and leave the rest of my time to doing Etsy stuffs. And I'm also planning on building a few jewelry and soap displays in the next few weeks as well, that I can try to get into a couple of local boutiques, but that in itself is big for me, because I haven't yet approached anyone local to sell my wares. And then too, with the change of seasons comes all the fantasticly yummy scents I can start putting back into my soap line and such like that too. Yay!

Alrighty then, so what are your plans? What are your goals for this holiday season, and what would you most like to accomplish on etsy or off?

*hugs*

My goals for this season are to do as many craft fairs as possible. My J-O-B is about to switch my hours around (well, it's a "promotion")) and I'll have to work some weekends, so scheduling my weekends around the big local shows is very important. The holiday craft fair season is a big part of my end of year sales.
Besides shows, keeping my Etsy shop's inventory at a level I'm comfortable with (I'm about 10 items short of that now...but making new items each day. I currently have two galleries where I have consignment displays and I'm considering a third, so I'll have to keep them happy and in-stock also.

Between work, weekend football games, fall/holiday shows and creating more sea glass jewelry, my weekends are booked until 2010. Currently, I have 3 shows next month, 1 in October, 1 in November and 2 in December and I'll try to add a couple more depending on my schedule and if I can keep up with my inventory.
My goal for Etsy is to increase my sales numbers each month compared to last year. If I can be successful doing all of this, I'll be happy happy!!

You sound very organize. I hate the end of Summer also, although it's not very cold in my neck of woods. I am busy making items to replenish my booth. My online store sells very little. I have more luck face to face so I am working more on that end. Hopefully, we all makes some good money this year.
