Some serious and good romance anime suggestions (mostly serious ones). |
| |
| Ok so I wanted to watch a serious romance anime lately....I'd like to watch it before school starts while I still have the time but i haven't found one that I like. I've already seen the following: Suzuka True Tears White Album Clannad/after story (liked ova's best) Spice and Wolf Ef- A tale of memories Itazura na kiss Skip Beat Lovely Complex Ginban Kaleidoscope Kimi Ga Nozumo Eien ...........and much more but that list could go on forever lol. So what are your favorite romance anime's that you feel that you must absolutely share and suggest...I've pretty much seen all of them but I'm sure there are some I haven't...Well Hopefully this discussion will give me some suggestions that I haven't seen. | | | | | |

| | Well it's not really romantic I guess but it's a great anime none the less. Emily of New Moon I just recently started looking for new anime to watch myself, and found one that I've really gotten into, though again this is not romantic it's certainly filled with many different emotions. But there's a mature content as there is animated violence and such. It's called Elfen Lied. I was watching it earlier and had to pry myself away from the computer so I could get some things done. "Just one more Episode" Lol. Would love to hear some animes that you recommend, as I love watching them. :D | | | | | | |

| | Haha I just responded to one of your discussions...I love Elfen Lied. Its one of my favorites...Also one of the only anime's to make me shed a tear. I marathoned that anime so I had the feeling of the anime while I watched which made it that much more emotional. Hmmm as for anime recommendations, It'd be easier to narrow it down if you could give me a certain genre or idea of what you like. Like action, shoujo, shounen, romance etc etc BUT I'll Suggest these though they are popular so you might have already seen them Skip Beat- Its a shoujo so its got its romance while having its amazing comedy....I'm going to rewatch it again since thats how much I love it. If you liked Elfen Lied then I'd recommend Higurashi no naku koro ni....You won't get anything at all but the first season are arcs of the characters getting into some gruesome situations at the end then repeating them again....Nothing is really explained until you watch season 2...Pretty funny and cute and mysterious at the same time..Then again its nothing like elfen lied lol Another would be K-ON! it is a very cute anime...where all the characters are just pretty cute and funny all the time...No real plot just fun throughout most of the anime... Ok and My absolute favorite right now would be Phantom requiem for the Phantom...It is by far my favorite at this moment. It deals with assasins and such but its much much more than that.. The main character apparently has potential to become a very skilled assasin and is wiped of his memory and trained to become an assasin for this organization..It has hardly no comedy but it is a VERY GOOD ANIME lol thats just my opinion and I'm probably exaggerating a little but its not too bad. Its an anime that seems ok but after watching through some episodes it gives you a twist and now changes from ok to absolutely awesome...then newer twist added and it now becomes every more absolutely awesome lol. Yeah I'm a bit obsessed with this one. | | | |

| | Thanks! I've not heard of many of those thanks so much, I'll be sure to look them up tonight. I wasn't much into watching anime shows as I was into movies, like Spirited away, Millenium Actress, Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, etc. Recently though I've been going back to watching some shows as I really do enjoy them just as much. Anything anime, I like it all. Thanks again. :D | | | |

| | Well I am an anime addict lol. And being young I have enough time to watch them...So I know LOTS as for movies...I've heard Clannad the movie is good...I saw the series not the movie but I heard it was good, its a sad romance movie. If you liked Clannad the movie then you would move onto Air the movie since its the same company. I recently watched Voices of a Distant Star...Its only a half hour but it moves pretty fast and is emotional...My opinion anyway. | | | |

| | The one and only anime that I even remotely enjoy watching is Inuyasha, which not only as a great plot and characterization also is a very deep and captivating romance story. I would highly recommen you check this show out if you haven't already. I watched it once and was hooked, and I'm not an anime fan at all. | | | | | | |

| | Yeah I've seen Inuyasha and the romance story doesn't really get anywhere really, plus the ending was absolutely horrible...Though I'v heard something about them finally going to finish the anime off properly but still not sure if that would happen. | | | |

| | Serious romance anime? Nana, no doubt. It's about two girls sharing the same name and the same flat as they make their steps into the adult life. You can find more info here: http://www.animenewsnetwo... Another good romance anime is Emma - A Victorian Romance, very down to earth and heart warming. Also pay attention to this season's Kimi no Todeke anime that starts in october I think. IG Production make adaptation of a very popular and award winning school romance by Karuho Shiina;) | | | | | | |

| | Thanks...I checked out Emma and it didn't look good to me but I think I'll try it out anyway...As for Nana I've been planning on watching that one for a long time, just forgot all about it Kimi no Todeke I think I will add to my anime to watch list.. Sounded good from what I've seen and read. | | | |

| | I'd say check out Toradora! Its about high school romance. Basically there's a guy (Ryuji) who likes a classmate (minori) and a girl (Taiga) who likes another classmate (yusaku), ryuji is yusaku's friend and taiga is minori's friend so taiga and ryuji help each other out to make things better between them and the one they like. The show is a 25 episode anime and its pretty slow sometimes (not slow-paced but everyone knows that ryuji and taiga will just end up loving each other in the end since they are the main characters, its even in the name of the show, tora is japanese for tiger and dora romanji for doragon and also ryu means dragon, and so you're like "do I really have to go through meaningless stuff first?"). Also things are relatively calm and there's not much action until the drama bomb (as they say on tvtropes) hits. I suggest you read the novels first before watching the anime though, since the novels are only in japanese the only way of reading them is by finding a fan translation, there is an ongoing project on baka-tsuki and they have translated around 70% of all the 10 volumes but the have been silent for a while now so I'm not sure if they really are doing anything anymore...however they have fully translated the first four volumes and some chapters of volume 5 and volumes 6, 7 have been fully translated as well. Its a LOT of reading though, I warn you, you may just want to check out the anime... | | | | | | |

| | By the way I saw in another of your comments that you've watched Higurashi and I just HAD to add that one of the characters in the show called Ami Kawashima resembles Mion or Shion soooooo much that I thought "WTF what is Mion doing here?" Seriously just search her name for pictures and if you can't really picture her as M/Shion with blue hair instead of green just search for a video with moments from Toradora! with her, you'll be able to tell then. Oh and by the way something I forgot to add, Toradora! is a tsundere anime and what's the best thing you can find in a tsundere anime? Why thats Kugimiya Rie-sama and she does voice Taiga who is a tsundere and who actually does shout URUSAI! URUSAI! URUSAI! in the first episode. Oh and in a Shakugan no Shana video game for the DS in japan there is a point where you have to deal with some kanji on the floor and i found a video walkthrough on youtube which also had the translated dialogue of what the characters were saying and the characters were in the Taiga Manor and it had shana saying she thinks she is related to Taiga and another character says "maybe its because you sound alike" or something of the sort, lol... In case you didn't know Shakugan no Shana is another anime whose main character is also voiced by Kugimiya. She also voices Shannon in Umineko no Naku Koro ni in case you watch that as well (since you have Higurashi). | | | |

| | Wow you really know your stuff...I know some stuff but you put me to shame there. UNFORTUNATELY I have already seen Toradora and it is already one of my top favorites so far. I also researched the voice who did Taiga because it sounded so much like Shana you know. She also reminds me of Louise from Zero no Tsukaima which is another of my favorites but is just a bit too much for me since the only actual plot episodes are either the last 2 and beginning 2 and thats what made it worse but all in all not a bad anime. | | | |

| | Louise, Shana and Taiga are all voiced by Kugimiya Rie, and Shannon from Umineko as I said before. She also does Nemu in bleach and ichigo's younger sister...and Tio in Zatchbell and generally she has done a lot of voices... Oh and btw an extra thing I forgot to say about Toradora! is that when they where going into the cave in an early episode minori actually said "hau, I'm scared" and her voice actor is the same as Hanyuu's in Higurashi Kai and Rei and Matsuri the ps2 visual novel for higurashi (saw a video about it on youtube with rena's USO DA!, it was freakin' INTENSE! you gotta see it just youtube uso da ps2 matsuri or something). She also voicesd Siesta in Zero no Tsukaima, Maria in Umineko and Ayu Tsukimiya in kanon, Yui Horie. Toradora! had many shout outs actually including a time where Minorin said "I am Golgo" and when they were checking out the photographs of the festival where she summons her photos in attack position and stuff (yu-gi-oh reference). Anyway I found out about these from wikipedia and personal experience so I'm not sure if they're 100% correct but at least I think so... | | | |

| | Try Da Capo, it has nice plots and twists, you'll go psycho like when you watch Ef. Also, since you finished suzuka(anime), have you ever seen the manga extension? it's way better. I don't know of other serious ones, but if you find comedy/romance like Skip Beat okay, try Nogizaka haruka no himitsu. It will be awesome ^^ | | | | | | |

| | Yeah I heard the manga had more for suzuka but I was content with how the anime ended. As for all of the anime's you've listed I haven't seen DA CAPO but I'll look into it... OH almost forgot did you know that they are making a second season for Nogizaka haruka no himitsu. Its supposed to come out this fall....Still deciding if I'm going to watch it or not. | | | |

| | Long list? I get that alot. You also have to remember, your topic title asked for "romance"... aside from a couple of deviants... that's pretty much the only genre I focused on. ...there are still plenty of genres (and of course anime) out there I can drag here. | | | |
| kingguy3 (30)

| | To Aru Majutsu no index, is not really a romance anime ~.~ it's more of shounen-action. btw, To aru majutsu no index will have a new season, named to aru kagaku railgun, I've seen this manga already. On to the topic. Myself;yourself is also good, I can't spoil it, but it has something to do with suicide :D. Kanon 2006 is more about, whether the audience is viewing a scene, in a dream, a flashback or reality. Koukaku no Regios is also more of shounen-action rather than a romance. So is Macross. Princess Lover is a good one, though it's not finished yet. Try also White album, but the 1st season will leave you at a cliffhanger and the second season is just about to happen. Hatsukoi limited is also half-comedy/ but more on romance type. H20~Footprints in the sand, is like Kanon, The audience must decide whether the scene is either a dream, a flashback, a false reality or reality. I don't know the others you gave, but I just expanded because you just gave a list. :D | | | |

| | @kindguy Yeah I've actually seen those your expanded on I'm actually waiting for White Album Season 2 to start already since I'm a big fan of the first...I don't like the fact that Majutsu no Index isn't having a season 2 but a side story but oh well I'll probably still watch it | | | |

| | I already said there were some deviants in the list (for fun). And if you want descriptions I could do that... of course that would take quite awhile -_-' Well I already missed other animes in this list believe or not, so if I choose to add them maybe I'll add some prologue cliff notes for those above that fit the genre in question. | | | |

| | My favorite romantic anime is Paradise Kiss. If you like romantic animes you should try that one. It's about a female student who a model agency seeks out and she falls involve with the man in charge there. She's a strong girl but he takes care of her anyways. It's a great anime. Itazura na kiss was also one of my favorites. | | | | | | |

| | How about Junjou Romantica? But it's more like a serious comedy kind of stuff. It's not exactly a normal relationship in there. But it's quite fun to watch it espacially when their relationship get some troubles.Owh almost forgot. This anime is a shounen-ai type of anime which is the 'boys love' and homoromantic relationshihp between men. They've already in season 2 (I guess so because hadn't watch it for a moment).Hope this kind of anime suite your question.
