As far as I understand, there are only advantages of being a vegetarian. I am 100% vegetarian, don't even eat an Egg! I am happy be so. I get all the protein and other required diet from vegetables.

According to me, people who complain that they don't get as much nutrition from vegetables as they get from meat are just trying to give excuses for not being a 100% vegetarian. This is of course my own personal opinion, so all the non-vegetarians, please do not mind.

Thanks for the comment. I fully support pure vegetarian and I am also a pure vegetarian. It provides all the nutrients, proteins and vitamins required by our body, then why should we go for meat, fish or so.

From what I've read you get almost everything from vegetarian diet but it appears vitamin b12 is found in meats hence veggies lack this vitamin.

You are very correct picjim. Although vegetarian food provides all the essential nutrients, but still there are certain factors that we get in more amounts from meat or fish. Meat is considered to be the major source of vitamin B12. Phosphorus present in the meat is easily absorbed than that present in legumes and cereals. Non-vegetarian diet is recommended for body builders as they require a protein rich diet in sufficient amount. Despite this thought, I fully support vegetarian

I have been told that not all the esential aminoacids we need to build our cells (DNA) are present in veggies. I think that there must have been a reason why men are omnivorous.
Nevertheless, many people eat more meat that their body needs. We should all have lessons to care for our body in a more scientific way.

You are correct. Non vegetarian food has its own advantage and are more rich in proteins and vitamins than vegetarian diet. But still I fully support vegetarian. Be vegetarian and remain GREEN

As far as m concerned...there r only advantages of being a vegetarian..since veggies provide a wholesome diet with less fats..but i love non veg too:))...so m in favour of both..lolxx

I have been a vegetarian for past 14 years.Well, the best part is you can enjoy more food choices and escape from the guilt you are eating meat.But there could be lack of vitamins, which could be compensated through mutlivitamin tablets.Vegetarian diets generally are less in fat and clories compared to non-veg ones.So from health perspective, they are better.but this could differ from individual to individual.Thanks!

I also fully support pure vegetarian food and respect animals. Non-vegetarian diet for humans let animals sacrifice their lives. Be vegetarian and support animals. Many organizations worldwide are against non vegetarian.

Hi there. Being a pure vegetarian is not good. You know why? Because you can't get all the vitamins, or nutrients in the vegetables you are eating. Like protein. It could be acquired in meat, chicken, eggs. Have you heard about pernicious anemia? People who are pure vegetarians have the chance of getting this kind of anemia. Too much is dangerous and less is not good too. So it should be balance. As for me, I am not a pure vegetarian, but I am a combination of a vegetarian and meat eater. thumbup

I fully agree with you that a plant based diet may lack some vitamins and minerals, unless a wide variety of furits and vegetables are included in it. Also Vitamin B12, largely found in meat, is not present in vegetarian diet. This vitamin is very essential for converting protein, fats and carbohydrates into energy. According to diet experts, children raised as vegetarians will not get enough nutrients, especially iron, zinc, copper, vitamin D and vitamin B12. and most importantly, most of the vegetarians have to take supplement to fulfill their daily requirements of both the minerals and proteins like multi-vitamins, etc.

well, there are no disadvantage of being a vegetarian if you atake a good diet. Well, most of the indians have a vegetarian diet they don't even know is complete. It is due to the different vegetarian cuisines. But then, apart from different cuisines. They have been taking it since long back their ancestors. So, now its a habit. Milk and dairy products being an important part.
Well, I myself is a very healthy vegetarian. When, I came to know the nutrition. present in my day to day food I became more happy. Cause I really don't eat out much.
All the vitamins and minerals were there without my my knowledge in my diet.

Even though i eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, I also eat some dairy products, milk eggs, and cheese, and i also eat meat on occasion, even though it is not a lot. so im a mixture of both.

Well thanks and I believe that their are no disadvantages of being a vegetarian. Even non vegetarian food is also needed for some Vitamins like B12 which are not found in plant based diets
