Baby Switching...  |

 This is a what-if question…I was watching a program the other night and a couple wanted a neighbor woman to have a blood test done to prove that her daughter wasn’t theirs. The two women had their babies within minutes of each other and the couple had just found out through blood work that their daughter wasn’t theirs…by the way, both babies in question are now in their 50’s!!
It got me to thinking, how would a person react if they found out that their baby wasn’t theirs years after it had grown up or at any time in it’s life? Would it make a difference in how you feel about the baby you raised? Would you be able to let the one you raised go live with their natural family? What about the child you never knew but now is in your life?
I’d be absolutely devastated if something like this happened to me…I can’t imagine that it would change any feelings I have for the child I raised…after all giving birth is just one part of having a child. I also can’t imagine how it would be to be either of the kids that were switched, regardless of age.
What about you…what if your child(ren) had been switched at birth?

She had seen ours before the switch so she knew something was wrong without even knowing it was a boy instead of a girl. If I raised the child it still would be mine but I would also be wanting to know my real daughter.

3.  danishcanadian (20165) | 4 months ago |  I don't think it would make a difference to me, but I would still want to sue the hospital for screwing up. I think it would be a good idea to do a blood test just before leaving the hospital with the baby, to prevent this from ever happening, before it happens, and is found out 50 years later.

| 4. catdla1 (2627) | 4 months ago |  I don't think that emotionally it would make a lot of difference to me. By the time I found out, the love and history are solidly in place. However, medically it would be a good idea to find out who the real parents were, since genetically it could make a huge difference. What if 'your' child needed a kidney or bone marrow transplant. The best likelihood of finding a matching donor is from the blook relations.

I'm curious as to why these people waited 50 years to find out?
It would be heartbreaking though to find out someone else raised my own child instead of me, how awful.

| 7. mzz663 (959) | 4 months ago |  I watched something similar to this not long ago. There were two girls that had been switched, raised and teenagers, one had died. The living girl didn't want anything to do with her biological family once she found out.
I would rather know from the beginning instead of wonder for years why my child looked and acted so different than everyone else in the family.

Now if the switch had been found out right right away or within a few years,then I would want my child back..I would still love the one that I brought home but I would want my own baby as I am sure the other mother would want her own baby back.. | |

Giving birth doesn't make you a mother, just as getting a woman pregnant doesn't make you a father. Raising the child and loving it means more than blood ties.
