When they consider interenet addictiive |
|
I was wondering when people consider internet addictive? Is there after so many hours a day, is it when you are at the computer for hours at a time without a break, is it if you use the internet every day even though you go on it and after doing one thing rush off it and do something else? So when is it considered internet addictive? I know if it is what my husband thinks, I eat every day, then I could be considered eating addictive. So is there a yard stick to when the internet is just useful, or when it is addictive? So what is the yard stick?

JenBth (37) | 4 months ago | I think to be considered addicted to the internet you would have to be neglecting your responsibilities, hiding how much you are online, neglecting human relationships and overall be a hindrance in your daily life. If being on the internet for long lengths of time takes you away from everything else you should be doing and causes a disruption in your life- then you should take a look at reducing your time online or getting help.

suspenseful (17042) | 3 months ago | My husband knows how much time I am on the internet, and I do my housework, etc. and I do not have to hide what I am doing. The trouble I find that people do not consider what you are doing and think that you can giver it up. I can see giving it up on vacation, but then when I am on a vacation, I plan for it. I will tell people I am away, and give notice to my email accounts. I will also write a bit more, and if I have any banking, I will make sure I transfer money ahead of time so I am not caught short, and pay the credit card ahead of time as well. So if I am sudddenly told no internet and if my husband could go to the cable company and then wheel in and say "we want to cut off the internet:" it might mean I might not be able to cover things, etc. So it is a necessity unless you are gambling or playing games.

suspenseful (17042) | 4 months ago | You do not understand the question. It is not if I ask, I am addictive to the internet, it is if there is so many hours a day, etc. when you would be considered addicted. I believe I am not, but someone who thinks that the only ones who have to be on the net are college students and business men, they would think that unless you just go to read the email and that takes you five minutes, they would consider that addictive.

4. dragon54u (9445) | 4 months ago | I think the internet, like anything else, is addictive when you can't live your life normally. If you surf the net and ignore your housework or your children (that has happened!), your marriage or other things that used to be important to you, you are addicted. You are definitely not addicted! You seem to have a well balanced life.
I found myself online more and more till a few months ago I told myself I couldn't supplement my income by staying online 16 hours a day! Now I work till the end of a normal working day and, with rare exceptions, I turn off the computer for the evening.

suspenseful (17042) | 3 months ago | I started out on the internet, and I thought "well the computer costs over $1000 and i do not want it to be an expensive game playing toy," as I was not into games, but most of the time I felt I had to be on it 24 hours a day to make any money and to pay for it, even though I had set aside so much a month to pay for it and it was paid up in a year. Fortunately I am not an addictive personality and I got pretty bored if I was on it for more then 5 hours a day and it was not at the same time.

suspenseful (17042) | 3 months ago | OH I use it for myLot, I go on FAcebook occasionally and leave a note and then I am gone, I use it for ptrs, and to comparison shop, check what is on special, go to Dictionary .com and decide what is the new word for today, do research, read email, and I do not consider myself addictive. Right now I am on it, because we are having people over to help with the yard and I want everything done before them I realky should write on my novel, so if I feel like "I have to get on the internet and look up what the hero will say to the villain in the villain's own language, " it does not seem like addiction, especially when the language the villain uses is a dead language.

6. notlistening2 (10611) | 4 months ago | I consider internet addiction, when you don't stop and take a break, or look afer your family, like cooking meals for them, you never get off the internet, when i am on the internet I take lots of breaks, I take my shower, get dressed and get back on the internet, when I have thing to do like, washing my clothes, I make sure I take care of that then I get back on the internet,I am on the internet all of the time.

suspenseful (17042) | 4 months ago | OH I am running from the internet and sometimes what happens I turn on the computer in the morning, but do not get on it until the evening. Most of the time it is in spits and spurts. Of course I am also writing my novel, but I cannot just go turn off the browser, write my novel for a little and then turn on the browser again, write my novel, and turn off the browser and continue on it. So the internet is on, but I have it minimized until I want to use it.

7. cbeee3 (844) | 4 months ago | I would consider someone to be an internet addict if they were glued to the net day in and day out, without paying attention to the chores they are meant to take care of. Some people need to work on the net for long hours.Per me, that is not addiction. Addiction would be when the person can do without net, yet chooses to surf the net neglecting other duties which he/she should take care of. I know that several teens get addicted to net when they start gaming. I saw this issue with my cousin. Luckily, he has overcome this now.

suspenseful (17042) | 3 months ago | That is what I think when they neglect what they need to do. Myself I cannot understand how someone can sit at the computer for hours at a time without getting figitity. I do not even understand how those telemarketers can do it. I have to keep getting up all the time. And I do not even play games or do any gambling.

cbeee3 (844) | 3 months ago | Its actually good to take breaks too. Staying glued to the net, even if one is not an addict and has to do it for work, is not good for one's health. We all know how it can cause issues with our eyes, injure our wrist muscles and also damage our neak and shoulder muscles. So you are right in saying you don't get how people can stay glued to the net without taking breaks.

suspenseful (17042) | 3 months ago | I do not think it is that, because then it would be that people who take calls and telemarketers who have to be at the computer would be considered addicted. I think it is using it instead of doing your housework. Then it is an addiction.

9. gitfiddleplayer (5015) | 4 months ago | I think that the internet can take over your life where its the only thing you use to communicate with people. Think about this, people used to come home at the end of the day and turn on the news to get the days information, now we can get it much faster, on our phones, the web. Newspapers are obsolete and the web offers so much more, games, tv, movies, e-mail, you can even work from home. I wouldn't say that the internet is addictive but just try to go a day without it if you use all the time. Its like air, its not important unless you're not needing it.

suspenseful (17042) | 3 months ago | I thought it was when you were busy playing games when you should have been doing your housework or cooking supper. Then it would be an addiction. But it seems for some it is that you are using it to communicate rather then talk to people, and not getting out in the fresh air and then not buying a newspaper or being on the phone. So for that reason the net is evil. Then the only ones to whom the internet is necessary and not addictive would be the college students, and that leaves the ordinary housewife or ordinary person out. Most of what I read here was it was when the internet interfered with a person's duties, not that people should have kept to reading the newspapers and talking. And going without it for one day seems rather senseless if you are using it wisely. I do not use the internet when I am on vacation but I pay for it when I get home with the piles of mail I get and have to get rid of the spam and also for the information I need. It would have been easier and taken less time and given me more time to do chores if I had been able to be on the net for an hour or two a day, and I would have plenty of time to get my necessary work done.

suspenseful (17042) | 3 months ago | So anything can be addictive, it is just in the mind of the person who does not approve of it. So if someone does not approve of you reading, they will say that reading a book is addictive, if someone does not like you ironing, they will say ironing is addictive. I sort of get the point.

TheGypsyDad (184) | 3 months ago | addiction can only be bad if it is harming your personal self.
