Now my Aunt & I were having a debate on this as to what's the best way to do corn on the cob in a microwave. I just do it plain for like 5min or so. She had the following notions, wrapping it in wet papertowel, keeping the husk on, wrapping it in wax paper ect...
what method do you find works the best?

I don't know that a regular plain ear of corn will turn into popcorn. I'm sure it's a particular type of corn if there is such a corn out there.

I just put it in a plastic bag and microwave it for about 5 minutes too. I don't leave it wrapped in anything, the simple way works for me and it usually tastes pretty good too! In fact, I've been wanting corn on the cob lately, going to have to pick some up at the store later! LOL

I would be concerned about microwaving any plastic bag. Not every plastic is ment to withstand certain temperatures, especially something as thin as a bag.

I find that if I wrap it in a clean cotton dishtowel and cook it for 5 minutes it stays fresher tasting and doesn't dehydrate.
By the way, I read about making your own cotton vegetable bags in place of those expensive "green bags". Sounded good to me so I tried it out by putting my bell peppers in a clean dish towel instead of the bag they came in. It's been a week and those cut-up peppers are still crisp and fresh, no signs of going bad!

I saw something similar on a crafting show on create where they just bought a mesh by the yard and made their own lil produce bag.
I think it's because the cotton absorbs the moisture that would cause it to decay faster if it was not.

I've never microwaved corn on the cob! I'm not a huge fan of using my microwave in the first place, it dries things out too easily if you ask me. We had corn on the cob on Saturday, and hubby grilled it, husk on and all. It was the best I'd ever had. Normallly though I'd boil it for a few minutes with a tablespoon of sugar. Honestly that's not much more difficult than microwaving it... I guess that's why I don't see the facination with microwaves.

I have not tried your methods but you gave me ideas on how. Up to now, i cook the corn the old way in the pot with water. Thanks for sharing.

I usually boil it on the stove but have done it in the microwave. I salt, pepper & butter it. I put a little water in the plate & cover it w/saran wrap & let it cook. It is easy to do that way.

I usually boil water on the stove and cook it that way because that's the easiest way to do it for a family meal. But if you just want an ear for yourself, wrapping it in a paper towel then running the bundle under the tap to get it moist is a good alternative. Microwaves remove the water from what they cook so wrapping it in a wet paper towel gives the microwave another source to steal the moisture from instead of removing it from the corn.

Sorry not sure I can help you on that one I don't microwave my corn on the cob I usually just steam it however if its already cooked and needs to be warmed up I do put it in the microwave for about a minute.
