VIETNAM, Another Chapter Closes, (Viet Vets). |
|
Today is one of much happiness and sadness for me.
This is the day VIETNAM passes to AUSTRALIA the last two remains of our Servicemen who were lost in the VIETNAM WAR.
I reflect my time there and I also reflect the lost of my brothers of our Nation. I'm am saddened that their Family have waited so long for their Sons to come home.
Today I am happy now this page of history can be closed, that all who went to VIETNAM in that WAR from AUSTRALIA will be HOME.
This may be one of the only WARS, ever that all those who went all came home.
To all those who lost some one in VIETNAM WAR, my thoughts are with you today.
LEST WE FORGET.
Ex VIETNAM VETERAN, HICCUP 67/68.

1. wmraul (581) | 4 months ago | Yo, hiccup.
I am into a dilema ..
While I'm deep inside me a fan of woodstok '69 and I would have force that time politicians to listen ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4xD8j8ye9k ) 24/7, I cannot be agree with what I hear in time was the "warm welcome" US people gave to vets coming from Vietnam or - later - from Koreea ...
And I live in a ex-comunist country - and here the things were not SO bad like SE asia commy countries..- so I know some "tactics" comunists would have use .. so I doubt ALL war prisoners were "returned" ..
Anyway. I always disagreed those wars .. but that didn't stop me to respect and honour US soldiers were involved .. and be sad when find out they were not treated quite ok when they returned home ..

hiccup (6542) | 4 months ago | Your thought are welcome.
This was a discussion to say all are now returned to Australia, (or soon will be).
This is mainly for Families and friends, that it may give the some comfort and closure to a sad time.

hiccup (6542) | 4 months ago | I seen a Friends Daughter receive her father home, She never seen him in life as she was born when he was in Vietnam.
To see this Child and how she related to her Father was wonderful.
As she said "I have now a Father and have some where to come to talk to him".
How important to that Child (an Adult in her 30's).
Heavy stuff.

jonjee0203 (1686) | 4 months ago | Yup, heavy stuff........... It's a new experience for both daughter and father. To feel the flesh and blood of each other must be the most wonderful testimony of what God can do for all of us. A dramatic journey of a return to reality for the father. The realization of having a father to touch and behold for the daughter. A truly awesome human experience. An analogy of the return of the biblical prodigal son and more.........

|
hiccup (6542) | 4 months ago | The return of the Father was in a casket, His remains were brought home and we buried him on Australian soil.
I am so sorry I confused you in the thought the Father was alive.
He was Killed in Vietnam at the time we could not claim his body as a War was on and the Other side were in no mood to let us claim the body.

jonjee0203 (1686) | 4 months ago | I am sorry for misreading too. I never knew there were POWs from Australia in the Vietnam War. It has really been such a long time since the reunification of both North and South Vietnams. I wonder why the Australian authorities did not pursue this matter posthaste after this and allowed the matter to be held in abeyance until now. Anyway, if it is any small comfort, at least the daughter can visit the cemetery to pay her respects on the anniversary of his passing.

jonjee0203 (1686) | 4 months ago | Postscipt: I just read Skynews. Their remains were just found last month at the Laotian-Vietnamese border. So the Authorities from both sides have really been doing their work. My salute to them!

4. aseretdd (6857) | 4 months ago | What a momentous historical event... that must have been quite emotional for you... i was born during the Fall of Saigon... so what i know from the vietnam war came from movies and history books... but as a former history teacher... events like this still give me goosebumps...
It is nice of Vietnam to return the remains of those Servicemen to their beloved country... and i hope wars like the Vietnam war will never ever happen again...

5. Hatley (21106) | 4 months ago | hi hiccup thanks for letting us all know and I really think its great that the families now will have closure. We get so caught up in our own lives and troubles and'this horrid economy we forget how much our veterans sacrificed'so 'we could be here and free and spend all our time thinking of ourselves. Also the Vietnam war veterans caught a lot of'flack aththe time because it was not a popular war.we forgot the courage and the valor those veterans faced while we stayed'here and badmouthed them. You are right WE SHOULD NOT FORGET THE VIETNAM WAR VETERANS.11
