(Dangerous criminal freed for the sake of oil deal)
The British government decided it was “in the overwhelming interests of the United Kingdom” to make Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, the Lockerbie bomber, eligible for return to Libya, leaked ministerial letters reveal.
Gordon Brown’s government made the decision after discussions between Libya and BP over a multi-million-pound oil exploration deal had hit difficulties. These were resolved soon afterwards.
The letters were sent two years ago by Jack Straw, the justice secretary, to Kenny MacAskill, his counterpart in Scotland, who has been widely criticised for taking the formal decision to permit Megrahi’s release.

Who can be trusted? NO ONE. I would look twice at any country that says they are willing to take a GITMO detainee. Maybe they have an ulterior motive.

Americans have an image here in Britain of being totally war-hungry! If only Britain hadn't pallied up with the US over the invasion of Iraq, then we wouldn't have been bombed by terrorists on July 7th with many people dead and maimed. It is always us Brits who have to go along with our big best mates, the US, and believe me, that is scary for us British. We were pushed into that war by the US, and what was it over? Oil, as always. It certainly wasn't really about weapons of mass destruction.
On the subject of Lockerbie, a lot of people believe that the 'Lockerbie bomber' who was released was in fact framed, and innocent. This is why people were cheering when he got off the plane. If this is true, then it is a good thing that this man was released, for everybody concerned.
