Is There Such Thing Like Good Doctors And Bad Doctors Today?

I can understand what your sister and family had gone through, the anxieties and the close shave with death.

Yet, I do not know what is with these errant doctors today. Are they ill qualified for the job? Are they very distracted from their duties?

Don't they know that their negligence and ignorance can cost lives? Have they no regards to the fragility of life?

So, are they doctors lack of knowledge the responsibility of the medical schools of today?

Are we to have dice tossing experience for competent doctors when we are forced to stay in a hospital?

Then, just what are the medical schools and medical boards for and doing today?

I cannot help with this babble here, as in this case and all that we have come across. I mean look at this case, a chickenpox case and the doctor here is incompetent?!

I feel that such incidents should not be happening and I am wondering if there are better ways to prevent these atrocities from happening again. Because, when there is a misdiagnosis the practitioners' confidence is secondary whereas the patient's life is at stake.

If the medical school had failed, then what about the national medical board? Aren't they suppose to scrutinize and look out for incompetent and malpractice doctors? So, shouldn't we report these negligent and incompetent doctor(s)?

I would agree with you. People should be aware of danger signs and not overreact when a condition can be managed by home treatment.

I do agree that the child's parents may be wrong to undermine and overlook the fact that Chickenpox can be complicating. However, this being rare and that the medical establishment being established and qualified should not be ignorant and negligent that there is a potential complication.

Shouldn't they at least encouraged the parents to bring the child in for a cross examination, in the first place? How can they be thinking like the parents? In all fairness sakes, they should have INSISTED and this boy would have another story here. Chickenpox most of the time and 95% percentage not fatal but there is still that rare 5%. So, why aren't they meticulous and not take the risk here?

Now, back to the overall health care system here, who is responsible for this oversight? The medical school? The national medical board?

Well they passed all their exams and the board... so maybe to me it means personal negligence? I know the doctor's staff should not be giving any kind of medical advice or suggestions as to what they think the parent should do. Maybe the doctor is overloaded with patients that he/she thought this one was worth telling to just stick it out? Mainly I would say negligence.

How in the world has your country's medical practice come to such a stage? This is simply both unbelievably atrocious and unthinkable. What about the AE at your local hospital? And there is nothing the public can do with such a malpractice?

And this you say is in Canada? My, this is really shocking to know? Can't you report to the authorities?

I know it's absolutely ridiculous isn't it. I just want to clarify that it's not like that in all of Canada, just in the province of BC where I live. We've been going through this health care crisis for quite some time, I feel because we have a corrupt govt that's made so many cutbacks in the health care industry, as well as education as well. Doctors & Nurses are incredibly overworked, underpaid which is why many chose to go to work in the US. There is also a Nursing shortage as well. Because there is a shortage of Doctors out there, Doctor's complain of being overworked, walk in clinics are overbooked, many Doctors are no longer accepting new patients, and I read somewhere that 1/4 people do not have a regular family Doctor. Yes, it is a disgrace brought on by our govt that would rather spend the extra money in our upcoming Olympics. How I detest politicians....

My point here is that it is my hope that we do not have to loose confidence with the medical practitioners someday.

Looking at all the past happenings or rather deaths caused by these errant practitioners misdiagnosis, I just cannot help feeling very insecure when we have to visit the hospital. Because, we just cannot have our own family doctor(s) in the hospital. Are competent doctors a dicey affair?

These medical practitioners who have received so much education and examinations to actually become qualified healers. But, it has turned out otherwise and I am just left to wonder where did it fail for such tragedies to happen.

I am wondering if your suggestion here might actually have detrimental effect on Good doctors.

I feel that every graduate from the medical school should be a well qualified doctor whom we can place our trust in and they should be competent enough with their basic duty as a doctor and become better doctors in the process as time progress.

There is nothing wrong to pay more and seek out good doctors but, it would be an unhealthy scene if errant doctors are evident and free to practice "termination". Also, overworked and stressed good doctors may not be ideal for the medical health community too. I feel that balance should not be overlooked here.

As you have rightly put it, that they should never be allowed to practice in the first place. Maybe, the task of monitoring and scrutinizing can be overwhelming for a limited national medical board, but if we can help them report these errant practitioners - I think the medical health will improve with time. And, we no longer have to waiver our confidence when a doctor is looking into our illnesses.

I do not think we cannot go all the way in our lives without ever falling ill. And, when that happens to us, what are we going to do? Clatter our teeth, bite our nails and wobbly knees?

I feel that doctors today must be closely scrutinized and that we should never hesitate to report errant ones to the relevant authorities i.e. the national medical board. Also, the medical schools should be ever more stringent with their students' qualifications and not just merely passing them for some statistical campaign.

I think balance is the order of the day here.
