I'm so upset. |
|
I am so mad at my daughter and very disappointed. Her problems should not be my problems. She works and goes to school but that is where she feels her responsibilities end.
She has three hamsters, fish and the damn cat. The worst thing is the cat. Ever since she got her license she doesn't care about anything else but her damn boyfriend.
That poor cat never gets fed on schedule and his litter goes uncleaned for days!
She knows we are not allowed to have the damn poor thing. To boot, she doesn't even help around the house. She helps in making a mess. That's as far as it goes.
Her priorities are so mucked up.
Why should I have been the one to clean up the mess she made? I did anyways because I'm her mom. She needs to get up in the morning to get to class.
To make matters worse, I come back to the computer and not only was it frozen solid when I gained control the show was over. Why, Holly? Why, should I give up my personal free time at night to deal with her crap? I don't know how else to tell her that she needs to clean up her act.
Well, I think I'm done venting here. I'm sorry, but I had to speak my mind.
Did I do the right thing?

libby2009 (1586) | 5 months ago | Most of them? When I was her age, I was much more responsible than she is. She's 19 years old! I was almost 19 years old when she was born. I didn't make my mother take care of her. I took care of her myself. I didn't seek mom's help until several years later when I wanted to go back to school.

libby2009 (1586) | 5 months ago | I would love to just throw out her animals. The thing is she's already an adult but she sure doesn't seem to act like one. In this case then was I still being a mom in telling her to go to bed and that I would settle it?

|
|
muscles4me (9199) | 5 months ago | Poor animals. i would not throw them out it is not their fault the owner is irresponsible. So many cat lovers I am sure there could be a good home for the cat really fast. Since she is an adult just tell her she either gets an inrease in rent or make her start paying rent or pacjk up her belongings and kick her out.

4. sunnysmiles (642) | 5 months ago | I have teenage boys and they are the same! I do not think it is done purposefully, they do not 'see' the things they need to do and concentrate on want they wish to do. I constantly have to remind mine to do certain chores, which they do do, but I get angry that I have to remember what they should do for themselves without having to tell them. They think that as Mum did everything while they growing up, Mum will still do it when they are young adults. If I was in your situation I would tell your daughter that it is enough and if she does not look after her animals then they will have to go, and that as she is now grown, she must take responsibility for helping out.

General_Spacey (1194) | 5 months ago | IF she is over 18, you can give her a one month notice, then kick her out.

General_Spacey (1194) | 5 months ago | Since she is 19, that makes her an adult. I can see giving her a break IF she is continuing her schooling with a post high school education. BUT, give her as month notice that she will have to pay rent, and for the other services like laundry, food, etc. Once I had most of my sisters bra, and one panty hanging out of her trunk when she went to school. She never left it on the floor again.

General_Spacey (1194) | 5 months ago | BTW, if that really is you in your icon pic, did you have her early in loife?? You dont look old enough to have a 19 year old spoiled brat.

6. aminul8427 (1276) | 5 months ago | Hi Libby! as a mom you have taken a lot pains to grow your girl. All children get extra privileges from their moms. All mothers are weak for their children. She does not know all things but naturally she is taking this advantages. It is very natural.
Do you have other kid(s)? How are they all? Where they are studying all? Could you please reply? Have a nice day.

7. bonbon664 (2304) | 5 months ago | Did you do the right thing? I don't see what you did. You didn't do anything to change her behaviour. She's an adult, and you need to sit down with her and outline what your expectations are of her. I would also lay down consequences if she doesn't hold up her end of the bargain. Be very clear about what you expect. Don't just say "clean up after yourself". Say clean up after your animals, clean the litter box on a daily basis, do the dishes, etc, etc.
If she doesn't do it, you have to be serious about the consequences you're prepared to hand out. You can tell her if it isn't done, she'll have to move out, or, if the animals aren't cleaned up after, you're giving them away. You have to be prepared to follow through with whatever it is you say. Otherwise, you will just have to keep doing what you're doing, cleaning up after her, and being angry.

What you say is true but I just don't have the resolve anymore. I need to be the one to move away from her. She's nothing but venom to me.

8. lotterylover (4846) | 5 months ago | My wife used to do the same for one of our daughters. The other took care of her pet bird. My daughter begged and begged for a horse but we wouldn't get her one even though we could have rented a house with a horse coral right in our back yard. We don't wash her clothes and don't usually fix any meals for her. If we do fix a big meal she is welcomed to eat with us. We have at one time put all her things in a trunk. A year or two later when we moved we looked in the trunk to see what was there as she never earned those things back and we forgot all about them. I think sometimes we give our children too much. Sometimes a schedule with everybody having a job might help. I know we have schedules for when we each can do our own washing. She seems to be more likely to do her wash when she is suppose to instead of letting it pile up until she has no clothes.

I'm thinking you should make it clear to her that if she doesn't start talking care of the animals, you are going to find good homes for them. And then if she doesn't take care of it, follow through.
