Associated Press Photo of Fatally Wounded Marine Stirs Controversy |
|
The Associated Press comes under fire by Defense Secretary Robert Gates for dammed good reason, read about the AP printing a photo of a dieing 21 year old marine then bow your heads and say a prayer for the young marine and his beloved family who has paid the ultimate price for a peoples freedom.
(Photo of dieing 21 year old marine published by AP)
In a letter to Associated Press President and CEO Thomas Curley, Gates said he was asking the AP to reconsider its decision to distribute the photo "in the strongest of terms" and called the decision "appalling" and lacking in "common decency."
Gates continued, "I cannot imagine the pain and suffering Lance Corporal Bernard's death has caused his family. Why your organization would purposefully defy the family's wishes knowing full well that it will lead to yet more anguish is beyond me. Your lack of compassion and common sense in choosing to put this image of their maimed and stricken child on the front page of multiple American newspapers is appalling. The issue here is not law, policy or constitutional right -- but judgment and common decency."

2. ruperto (449) | 3 months ago | I think Bernard family should be assisted not by US govt but by some NGO to teach AP a lesson.
infinite is the grief of Bernard family and cannot be measured in US dollars
The least AP can do is to give until it hurts. I recommend a hundred million dollars in damages to be paid by AP.
I could the Bernard family using this money, or they could add it to the common benefit fund for bereaved families of US soldiers.
AP has got to pay and it must hurt AP.
WHO IS AP REALLY REALLY WORKING FOR ANYWAY?, TERRORISTS?
Cheers

The_Lamb_Lies_Down (2595) | 3 months ago | What planet are you from? It's a photo of WAR...it shows two Marines coming to the aid of another Marine that later died of his wounds.
AP works for AP.
What, do you think only the "good" side of WAR deserves to be acknowledged?

ruperto (449) | 3 months ago | please bear with with me for 1 minute.
It may be fine by you and it is with me. We seem to be both strangers to Lance Cpl Bernard (mortally wounded).
But personally I think any person who is related like a family member may not want that photo circulated as news.
I hope that makes sense:)

The_Lamb_Lies_Down (2595) | 3 months ago | Just as someone who lost a family member in a jet airliner crash may not want pictures of the crash circulated...but they will be anyway.

3. The_Lamb_Lies_Down (2595) | 3 months ago | Sure...let's just hide the realities of war, okay? It seems like everyone thinks it is okay to show other countries dead bodies, but it is a sin to publish a photo of two Marines coming to the aid of a fellow Marine that later died.
Pull your heads out of your a$$e$ people...this is war.
