Did You Nurse Your Baby? If So For How Long? |
|
Hello Mylot Moms And Future Moms
I would like to know your thoughts on nursing your baby/babies
I nursed all 3 of my children until they were about 10 months old I really enjoyed the bonding experience it gave me of course the health benifits are a huge plus especially in the first couple of weeks when the colestrom (not sure I spelled that right) is there. There are so many reasons why this method is better for baby. My kids didn't have ear infections or runny noses or difficulties with constipation I found it quite convienent just bring the baby and let nature takes its course. Of course there is a couple of things that I don't remember fondly such as the soreness and the engorgment OUCH.... and the leaking now thats another story lol every time a baby cried and I was in earshot I leaked wether the kid was mine or not lol that sound triggers the flow as you moms who breastfed already know:-) anyway I just wanted to know some of your experiences with nursing because I found it to be qute rewarding.

2. much2say (722) | 4 months ago | Nursing is the greatest gift we can give to our children. I actually only nursed my little one for 6 weeks, as she kept falling asleep (we just could not get her to wake up - at all!). But I wanted to give her the full benefits of mother's milk, so I made the decision to pump full time. It worked out well because I could schedule the pumping during her routine naps. For 4 months, I only used a single hand pump - which was great, but my hands were killing me. Then I bought a double electric pump which did the job in no time. I actually kept this up (being tied to the pump) until she was nearly 14 months. She switched to cow's milk with no problem thereafter - and that was that! She is now nearly 5, and knock on wood, she has rarely gotten sick - and I am quite sure it is because of the mother's milk she had. No infections or constipation problems as you have said. We have a second one coming soon . . . and I do hope we can give our son the same benefits. I am going to try to nurse longer if possible, perhaps this time I can be more successful with nursing without having to pump so much early on. And when I do pump, I hope I will be able to pump regularly and as long as I did for my first one (this time I will be busy with my daughter's schedule). Oh yes, I did not enjoy getting that occasional soreness or engorgement, oh my. If anything, it was really difficult scheduling anything outside the house because I was so adamant about pumping at home. Everything was for the sake of pumping, but I'm glad I did it!! Kudos to you and all who have given our children this gift!

Cherryd41 (330) | 4 months ago | Hi Much2say I agree with you totally on that one.,..Nursing is the greatest gift we can give to our babies immune systems and its also good for us too it helps our bodies to burn some of the extra calories that we eat since we have to eat a good diet to maintain quality milk(at least thats what I was told by my doctor ) I also used to pump my milk because I produced so muc of it and my son was so greedy:o) he was always hungry but then again babies who nurse are fed on demand so that goes with the territory.

4. Sissygrl (5760) | 4 months ago | I breastfed both of mine till they where about 15 months. I only nursed during the night after they started regularly eating solids though.. i think my first only stopped because my milk dried up when i was about 5 months preg with my second daughter. and I just decided enough was enough at 15 months! hehhe. she didn't seem to mind at all. gave her a cup instead and she was happy.

Cherryd41 (330) | 4 months ago | I decided that 10-11 for my first one was enough he kept biting down because he was teething OUCH!! They also liked using me as a pacifier. Sometimes I think that my kids were attached to my side (in a sense the were)LOL

5. KMPierce (117) | 4 months ago | I did nurse my child! I nursed him until he was almost a year. The first few days were tough but I had a lot of friends to support me. It became such a special bonding time with me & my son. My son is almost 9 years old now and he still, to this day, hardly ever gets sick. I believe this is due to the fact that I nursed for so long. It could be a myth, but I personally don't think so. There are pains that are involved in nursing, like when I wanted to go out I had to do so around his feeding schedule, but in my opinion anything worth while has it's hardships. I found nursing rewarding as well! You are doing a great thing!!

6. kkanaka (393) | 4 months ago | Its a very different and nice feeling when we nurse our kids.... the bonding is a very good experience, I think all the mothers will agree with me... for my first child I was able to nurse only for few months as I didnt have much supply.... hehheeh and for my son I nursed him for nine months and really loved it and was sad when I was no longer able to feed him... its the experience we have only once or twice so must cherish it as much as possible....

True. There's nothing more rewarding than nursing your babies. I have two and I've nursed them for 1year and 2 months both of them. There are times when you surely want to stop 'cause it can be annoying, inconvenient especially when you are in public places. but the feeling of being one with your baby and actually giving her/him a part of yourself is truly INCOMPARABLE. So for wanna be moms out there, i definitely advice you to nurse your baby if you have the chance to do so.

8. grace118224 (670) | 4 months ago | Early this year i gave a birth to my baby . Since then i'd been looking after him full time until he was six months old. Now i have to go back to work and my mother-in-law would care for him during my working time. It's a very tiring job to nurse a baby especially when he is sick. I still remembered that when he was three months old one day he got a high fever . We were so nervous and worred about him . Our heart broke when we saw him to be so weak . For looking after a baby you should give a full attention on him otherwise he wouldn't grow up well.

9. moneymakingtoday (1817) | 4 months ago | all my 3 babies were breastfed until they were about 10 months old too.
nursing is really a bonding experience between mother and child. it is a rare moment of holding and cuddling ur bundle of joy. it is a quiet time for each other. It is comforting to the baby and a way of meeting emotional and physical needs of both.
ah, the joys of being a mother and the privilege of giving urself to ur child!
