What things do you feel a person should be aware of in traveling? |
|
When we go to travel what things should we be aware of? What type of things should we take with us when we travel? Be aware of weather conditions and what type of clothing? What type of important papers should we take with us? How much extra money should we have on hand? What type of shoes should we take? Are there other things to be aware of?

2. maximax8 (10866) | 4 months ago | A person should research about their destination before they book the plane ticket. I booked to go to Mexico but a hurricane hit that coastline and Cancun Airport had to close for that duration. I had to change my plans really quickly and ended up going to Male in the Maldives. When I got a travel guide on the Maldives I found out the accommodation was really pricey. It is better if a person finds out about the weather. I went to the Cook Islands and the weather after the hurricane that had hit was dull. A person to a country like Jordan should dress in a way that respects the local people. He or she should take a valid passport and get my visas that are necessary. It is wise to take shoes comfortable for walking. It is sensible to pack lightly and have room for additions like souvenirs or presents. Happy traveling.

celticeagle (4974) | 4 months ago | Thank you for the very indepth information. Do you know what I should look for as far as packing and what to look forward to when I get to the airport. I plan on taking a flask of whiskey with me. Have any idea how they will react to such things?

3. zhuhuifen46 (2677) | 4 months ago | I would suggest you check the weather forecast and bring with you clothing suitable for the weather, but never too much as in my case. In cities, whatever needed could be bought, but up hills always bring a coat at hand.
Food could be another issue. Group tour provides economy meals, so if in hilly areas, remember to prepare enough chocolate bars. IT DID HELP ME A LOT.

celticeagle (4974) | 4 months ago | Ya, I was going to take afew of my favorite bars. I hear you can only take 2 ounces of lotions and shampoos and such. What of that? And is it best to care vitamins in the bottle or in a day planner thing I have? I don't want to be held up and I don't want to have to leave stuff behind because I have too big a container.

4. med889 (2804) | 4 months ago | I think the first one id the clothes he is taking with him because one of my friend has been in such a situation where he took wrong clothes at his destination and it happened because he did not not enough about the country, so a general knowledge about the place is very important too. Important papers should be carried with you personally, better to wear a jacket to keep everything important instead of a bag which can get lost on the way. Then cards is better than money in liquid.

| 5. sage09 (20) | 4 months ago | I say you can put the things you have to know under 5 major must knows. 1.Have a little background on the place you will visit- the culture or practices, laws, weather etc. Culture because you dont want to offend the people and be an outcast for doing something that is perfectly normal to you but a major no no to their beliefs.Special laws, cause nobody wants to be detained in a foreign c0untry or deported. Are they strict with traffic rules, throwing trash etc.In hongkong, when you go sh0pping you'll have an extra charge for the plastic bag!Its part of their eco friendly campaign c; the weather so that you'll know what wardrobe to prepare.
2. Language. You have to know how you can communicate with the people there, especially when asking for directions or big discounts:))
3. Money value. You have to know the value of their currency against y0urs so you'll know how much to exchange. It also helps to have an idea of the costs of items or fares so that you can estimate how much to bring
4.Musts. Must try food, must see place, must by souvenirs, must try activity etc.Its good to know what the place is known for so that you can get the full experience of being in that place.Where's the fun in travelling if you will not try new things that you can only experience in that particular place.
5. Airport policies. Different airports, different protocols. You have to have an idea on the what can and cant you bring when going across their border. It will save you from the great hassle of opening your luggage to be inspected or leaving a bottle of your favorite perfume because they dont allow liquids.
There,i think those are the most important things c;

celticeagle (4974) | 4 months ago | I think #5 is the only one I am worried about. Not going out of the country or anything. Just wonder about the protocols at the airports in US now days since I have not traveled in so long. I think I will start another discussion for this.
| |
|
|
| sage09 (20) | 4 months ago | Yeah youre right.Getting past the airport is the biggest factor. And with the terrorism and all,for sure airport policies will be modified and made stricter c: better if you call your airport or ask a frequent traveller C; dont sweat too much, enjoy your journey.

celticeagle (4974) | 4 months ago | ya, I have a gym bag size bag for my clothes and toiletries and then my laptop case and my purse and that is it. I should start a business of just delivering coffee 9several types) and cigarettes for people early in the morning. Only problem is I AM A NIGHT PERSON!! But by being up late I could get these things to people relatively early.

8. EnglishTeaDuck (733) | 4 months ago | Well, this is a good one for me tonight as tomorrow I am off to England (Ilive in Massachusetts, so 7 hour flight from Boston)
But England is home for me, I am English and lived there 30 years before getting married and moving here, so I know what to expect.
So I have clothes (layers...never know with English weather, you need to be able to take stuff off or put it on!) my camera (essential, to bring a bit of England back with me so I can cope with living here!) I am staying at my parents and know all the local shops and stuff so I am not taking a lot of stuff as I will buy some there.
The heaviest things in my luggage are gifts from people here for my parents - they have come over here a few times and people from my church have got to know them, and its their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, so people have sent stuff with me.
Thats ok, when I get there that will be taken out and I will bring back loads of English stuff I miss!

celticeagle (4974) | 4 months ago | Well, i envy you. I would love to see England and Ireland. Maybe someday. In the Spring I plan on traveling somewhere. Not sure yet. I always do layers cause at my age I have times when I am hot and others when I am too cold. I am just wondering what I have to look forward to in the airport as I am leaving. I haven't flown anywhere for many, many years.

celticeagle (4974) | 4 months ago | That is very good advice. I will take my tennis shoes to wear and another pair to change into when I get there. Alot of good info. So they do do a security check when you get there. See I have no idea what to expect.
