yea i would be but you never specified how much you were going to get paid so it is partly your fault but i don't know how you would deal with this.

Wow! has this man ever heard of minimum wages? He should be reported. Next time you work for him please negotiate before starting the work. That should get you a just pay for the job done.

I guess maybe you thought that this is family, you don't have to demand a wage and that he should know what is a reasonable amount to give you. I guess he thought that because you're family, he can take advantage of your blood ties. What it all comes down to is that with family too you have to be upfront about payment. It's just business as the mafia would have said.

Yes I should say I'd be mad. I'd also say somrthing about it and youn can be sure it would be the last time I do anythomg for him. In Canada where I live this would be classed as little boy wages. I had to pay a boy 25.00 to mow my lawn prior to the sale of the house. That was about an hour and a half job. This is ridiculous actually.

That's what I would call taking advantage of someone. Then again some people think that "family" should not have to be paid. While my daughter was gone over the holiday her husband and I cleaned up the yard, cleaned out the garage, washed windows inside and out, and cleaned the carpets. When she came back she acted like"So.." Never even said thanks to me, her old worn out mother.LOL! I'm still sore.

So this was a step father. Was the man getting paid for painting in the first place?
He probably would have made me quit after the first hour or so as I am a very sloppy painter. I know I tried to paint the roof for my mother but lost the can down the front of the house with it spraying the awning. She never asked me to paint again.
My wife asked me to stop painting after a few minutes as I was slopping the paint all over everything else. She has done a lot of painting without really getting paid for it as we had rentals and our own houses. She pretty much stays close to the ground to do any painting now but she is over 60ty so I really don't want her to be getting much higher.

if both of you didn't specify how much you want for the work, he will pay you any amount he likes. that goes about everything and everyone. even if you specify it, some people could still not pay you the amount agreed, so there is still a down side to it. unless you put it in writing, nothing is guaranteed these days. that's just how it is. I agree though $ 50 is really low for 3 days job, especially if you do a good job. for what you do he can at least pay you $50/ day. painting isn't an easy job, if he were to hire a professional one it would cost him at least $ 15-20/hr so paying you $ 50 for painting alone is already cheap and he still have to pay for the mowing etc.

I think what bothers me most about your story is the fact that the man didn't even sound grateful. It's one thing to ask people for help, but to be bossy or unappreciative when receiving it, that's another. If you aren't going to be nice, then you better be paying people a bunch of money. Otherwise, you may never get help again. That's where I'd be as far as this man goes. I just wouldn't do anything else for him.
