Premature baby allowed to die because it was "against the rules" to help him

I think the state this country is getting to is ridiculous from what you have said they have allowed a baby to die and here is somebody that clearly didnt care about their baby. I hate what some people have become!

This just disgusts me. I cannot believe they have a "rule" in place that prohibits them from administering treatment to stop the mothers contractions. If they could have atleast done that then maybe her son wouldn't have been born too early.

I also find it hard to believe that these doctors are so morally inept that they would let a premature baby who was born alive with good lung fuction and motor skills die anyway because their guidelines say it wouldn't be in the babies best interest. Really? It's not in the babies best interest to live?

I hope to (insert deity of choice here) that as long as we have options/competition in our health care choices, "guidelines" like this won't ever affect Americans.

I found the article and it made me very sad. This poor woman had so many miscarriages and this might have been her only son, and yet those doctors would not have come to her home to help the baby survive. And yet when I read the comments, there was this stupid idiot saying that America has a higher mortality rate. What difference does that make? The fact is that in the UK, a baby that is born too early may be left to die, but it is not a fast and firm rule. It was just a suggestion. They could have at least sent a doctor to the lady's home to see if the baby had a chance and it did look by the story that he had, but those meanies were too lazy and too confident that they were right to even bother to check.
Yes if America gets government health care, this will be one of the things that happen because it would cost to much to go and check. And if a woman had a threatened miscarriage after public health care, by the time she got to see a specialist it would have been too late.
I am in Canada, and here people are dying waiting to see a specialist.

The lady found out a baby born when her mom was 21 weeks and 6 days pregnant survived in the USA. The poor lady had suffered five miscarriages. She was told the doctors wouldn't help save her premature son. I would go against rules if it kept a premature baby living. I have seen success stories on a notice board outside a premature baby unit. Hospital staff should try to save every premature baby.

Hi sndcain...Of course it can happen here! This is the single payer system that the administration has been talking about for the past couple of months. I was horrified at the inhumanity of this decision but I have to assume that it is the logical conclusion when decisions are made based on cost, not compassion.

And we thought all physicians took a vow to save lives, now we know just how far the power of the government can reach. Everyone deserves a chance to live and everything in this doctors power should have been used to save this tiny life.
These will be the "rules" we in America have to deal with if/when we
all have to get our health care from the Government. We will have given up our choice
to live or die to those who do not care. But you can bet they and their families will get the best of care while we struggle alone. Thanks to those who voted to put Obama in a position he doesn't deserve, we will all have to suffer because of the "change" they so desperately wanted.

Well she should have told them they had to. I know that it is hard to do but it can be done. My father's friens has a daughter who is now 17. She was born one day past the 20 week mark. He had to fight to make them save her and fight hard, but they did and she is a nice young lady now.

This is another awful situation, unfortunately it's not singular. On the contrary, it occurs so often, this is the saddest part. And the authorities don't see any of this, either cause they don't want to, or because of ignorance. No matter how you put it, it is a cruel reality.

OOOOH this makes me mad, this isn't some just a loose kitty that other people would throw away because either the baby is gonna die anyway or too much pet to take care of. these are real people and they have souls, i find it hard to believe after hearing this.
