Bed Bugs!!! |
|
A friend of mine called me today and said that bed bugs are everywhere in hotels and motels. They get on your clothes and they stay on your body. She even told me to make sure you wash your suit cases. This is really disgusting to me. I am a clean person so this really grosses me out. Is this really true or is just a myth? Thank you.

1. rmorefield (777) | 3 months ago | Unfortunately, this is true information. They are extremely hard to get rid of, because they are so hard to find. They are thin enough to hide anywhere that a piece of paper could fit into. I really don't know how to prevent them when you travel. That is something that I will do more research on. But when I go to a hotel, I am the strange person that brings my own pillow and blanket for the bed. I am a frequent traveller, and one problem I see is that even though housekeeping changes the pillowcases when people leave, they don't wash the pillows. And I have never seen them change the blankets on the beds unless something was spilled on one. I, personally, don't want to think about what bodily fluids may be lurking on the blanket that I put on my body. And I don't want to run the risk of getting head lice from the pillows. I would rather take up a little more space in my car and pack my own stuff. I know that this sounds pretty disgusting, but it is the truth. (And I don't stay in the run down hotels. They are always four-star if not five-star)

patriciaqualls (4607) | 3 months ago | Thank you for your response. Yes I always stay at a four star hotel as well. I will be packing my own pillows and blankets too from now on. I have never seen them wash the comfortors. It is all pretty disgusting to think about.

rmorefield (777) | 3 months ago | Yes, it is disgusting. One would think that the hotels could afford to wash the pillows and comforters every time a guest leaves with the rates that they charge us.

|
patriciaqualls (4607) | 2 months ago | That is so very true. They really should wash everything. Especially because of the rates they charge!

4. hiccup (6438) | 3 months ago | It seems the BED BUGS are on the increase from all reports I have heard and theas are in the Hotels, Even the 5 star hotels.
This only comes down to sloppy workman ship. And to this no or little quality control.
So I will leave you with this as it was said many years ago for the same reason,'
"Good night, sleep tight and hope the BED BUGS DON'T BITE".

5. rusty2rusty (4185) | 3 months ago | Nope this is not a myth. It is partly true. However bed bugs are not in ever hotel or motel. I also don't think bed busg stay on the person. They like to be in suitcases or beds where they can hide. Bed bugs have been around for years and years. It seems there has been an increase of bed bug case found recently. Not sure if people are traveling more or what the reason is.

patriciaqualls (4607) | 2 months ago | Thank you for your response. It could be because people are traveling more. That does make sense.

6. moonlitmagikchild (7144) | 3 months ago | well i know dust mites infest beds really bad.. they say if you dont buy a cover for your bed within 5 years your mattress will be totally infected with them!!
i know i read some where to NOT make your bed because if you let it air out then the bugs dont have the dark moist place to hide..
i have no ideas on what to do for motels though=( but i dont think you really notice them most of the time unless you are allergic to them.. i could be wrong

7. trisha27 (391) | 3 months ago | This is true that bed bugs do happen to show up in hotels and motels. Actually my husband and I are now very careful of what hotels and motels we stay in because of that. I think that it is sad mainly that hotels don't infummigate their hotels and then they allow people to sleep and stay in there. Then on top of that they expect for their business to stay up and running. I know my husband and I normally will check out a room to make sure that everything looks nice, and go from there. When we go in we check to see if it looks like a place that would have bed bugs and stuff. But I think sometimes that normally doesn't help. I also think the best thing to do if you know that you are going out of town or you're getting away from the house for the weekend and you are planning on staying in a hotel. I would do some research and check up on the ratings and comments of the hotel and read about what other guest think of the hotel. I know I would never want to come across some bed bugs. I have heard that they are really hard to get rid of. I just saw a story recently on the news that some guy brought some bed bugs to a library now that's just disgusting and embarrassing. Its frightening also to know that these things can be carried to any place as well, besides being in hotels and motels and in peoples homes.

patriciaqualls (4607) | 2 months ago | Thank you for your response. Wow I didn't know that they were that hard to get rid of. That is really disgusting that they were in the library. I guess we just never really know where these little bugs hide. That is pretty scary to me. I always make sure to stay at a good hotel too and make sure they fumigate ever so often. But who knows if they really do they might just say yes to shut me up hehe.
