how far would you drive for your doctor? |
|
my shrink moved his practice an hour away from me which really sucks because i will have to get on an interstate i hate and the area he is moving to i get lost in easy so needless to say if it wasnt for the fact he is great and good docs are rare i wouldnt do the drive..
how far would you travel to a doctor that you had that moved? would you just replace them? i have had so many bad docs i dont wanna risk it anymore lol.. there was one doctor i had that people would actually drive a few states away to see him.. i wouldnt go that far but im gonna try to make this hour drive work..
how far would be too far to travel for your doc before you would change?

1. sedel1027 (12396) | 3 months ago | Honestly, not more than maybe 45 minutes. The only time I would consider going a bit further is if they were a specialist I had been seeing for a very long time. Over a hour is bit much to drive for a doctor - even with being able to use the milage as a tax write off.

moonlitmagikchild (7144) | 3 months ago | ordinarily i would agree but when i switched to him it took me a month of calling every shrink in my insurance book and every single one either had moved or werent taking anyone.. it was so hard and i have meshed well with this one and since its about my sanity i dont wanna just switch to god knows who lol..
| |
|
|
sedel1027 (12396) | 3 months ago | He's a specialist that you like, so the drive is okay. If it as just for my GP or something, I'd just switch.
| |
|
|
moonlitmagikchild (7144) | 3 months ago | yeah i agree.. but then again most gp's seem useless to me unless i have insurance that requires me a ref from them to see some one else lol

sedel1027 (12396) | 3 months ago | The last GP I had I really liked. She was probably the best Dr i Have ever had - including some specialist I had seen. She took her time, asked a ton of question, very through, which is really rare nowadays. Of course, we have since moved and I have another GP who I have only see once and that was primarily to get a referral for an OB since I am pregnant. I think seeing a GP for some things - like renewing birth control and routine things - is a billion times better than having to see a specialist.

3. muscles4me (8480) | 3 months ago | At one time I was ging to a chirpractor and he was less than a mile grom my condo. He moved his office about 14 miles away. It took about 25 minutes to get there. I no longer need the services at this time. I have no regular doctor.

4. General_Spacey (1194) | 3 months ago | Right now, I am traveling about 45 minutes more than you do. Medicaid pays so little, it was impossible to find a doctor in town that would take a new medicaid patient.
| |
| |
|
|
moonlitmagikchild (7144) | 3 months ago | i was worried about that when i got disability and medicare so that was another reason i didnt wanna search again if i had so many probs with regular insurance to find some one in this town i knew it would be worse with medicare

5. rusty2rusty (4185) | 3 months ago | I drive almost an hour to see my doctos as well. Not by choice but because of where I live I have to travel that far to get to the type of doctor I need.

moonlitmagikchild (7144) | 2 months ago | i hope that eventually your doctors will be closer to you so you dont have to travel as far

rusty2rusty (4185) | 2 months ago | Where I live now I don't see that happening. As I live really close to where my husband works. So it actually savesmoney to live where we do.

7. nadooa247 (835) | 3 months ago | Being Muslim i wanted a female to be my doctor when i was pregnant, add to that the fact i have no insurance (public aide) it became harder to find a female doctor accepting public aide. Harder yet since i was 6 months pregnant.. even more refused me since i was far along. (Reason? I was overseas.. and returned to the states when i was about 6months)
Finally i found one.. she was a freaking one hour drive... it was hell on earth lol.
Not a great thing to be forced to drive an hour to a hospital during an emergency... it plainly blows!

8. danishcanadian (20047) | 3 months ago | My husband and I don't drive, so we wouldn't be able to drive that far. We're lucky enough to live just down the street from the doctor's office, and down another street to our optometrist's office.

9. EliteUser (3984) | 3 months ago | Hello,
I would probably only drive maximum 1 hour, any longer than that and I think that I would change. But it all depends on how good that doctor is, because some doctors are so good, that you don't ever want to give them up for someone else. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!

moonlitmagikchild (7144) | 2 months ago | and some times depending on what type of doc its really hard to get one that understands you and your condition well.. i know i have switched 4x for a fibro doc that understood fibromyalgia but also didnt believe in making me a drugged out zombie!

10. KrauseHome (13384) | 3 months ago | Well, we just recently moved to a New home that we just bought, so I am a good 30-45 mins at least from all of my Doctors now, but since I also work 30 mins. away I have no choice in keeping these for now as well. If I ever decide to switch jobs I would consider switching if I am closer to where I live, but for now I will stick with the ones I have and hope for the Best with them as well.
