I just thought of posting this because it's raining again. I'm in Hong Kong right now and enjoy my warm and dry apartment. When I was in the Philippines though, I stayed in a home (1 & 2nd Flr). Sometimes when it would rain, (before or after), there would be HUGE flying roaches coming through the doors or windows. They're really gross and they scare the heck out of me. Can you imagine where that thing has been? Have you ever experienced anything similar? Do they scare you? Flying roaches terrify me. They're disgusting. Anyone wants to share?

I am presently residing here in the Philippines. And yes, there are cockroaches here in the Phils. and i guess roaches are everywhere, not only in the Phils, but also at other countries. But here in my house, there is no roaches flying thru doors and windows.Maybe that only depends on the place where you were living in. If you are Filipino, this seems you are picturing the Philippine country as roaches flying all over the place. And it seems Hongkong is a place for you (you find a good place to live in).

I never have defined the Philippines as a roach infested place to live in and I think it's wrong for you to make that assumption or jump to conclusions. I am speaking from my experience. I do not live in a dingy place in the Philippines but as I do know, when it rains, roaches tend to seek refuge in different places and end up flying into houses sometimes. Hong Kong IS a place for me because I was born here but if you read my post, I said I live in an apartment which is ten floors up a building and is probably the reason why I dont get flying roaches here. Roaches are everywhere but I am speaking from my own personal experience.

We have HUGE flying roaches in the southern part of the US. I lived down there for a little while and they would drive me crazy! They're so ugly and gross looking! Once in a while I would turn a light on in the mimddle of the night and they would run like crazy, having been everywhere, especially in the kitchen. I miss living down there but I don't miss the big ole flying bugs, there they called them palmetto bugs.

"Theyre so ugly and gross looking!" - I KNOW! LOL! That's a new term I've heard, "Palmetto Bugs". We just call them cockroaches or roaches. I miss the place but I don't miss the bugs, most definitely not. LOL. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

Oh my ... This would not be a fun experience. Reminds me of someone I used to know who used to live in such a grouse kept place, she had roaches everywhere ... Even in the microwave. There are a lot of bad rodents out there and cockroaches actually have to be one of the worst.

Wow, those things get around. We have those in Kansas. We call them wood roaches. Honestly, I'd rather see those than a household cockroach any day!

It was a cold snowy winter day. The city was having problems with the sewer. When the city employee pulled up the sewer manhole cover, there were 50 billion of these flying roaches in there. Talk about a good monster movie theme. So keep those drains covered. These bugs are big enough to swim the water traps in your drains. We just can't let these things in the house now can we??

Oh my gosh, that's like Joe's apartment, only it's not funny. Ick. Actually, yeah, sometimes I do notice roaches crawling out of those water/storm drains down the street but geeze 50 billion of them??? That's horror. Thanks for posting. I'm still going "eww" here lol.

I hate flying cockroaches. You don't know where they'll land and those tiny feet running away on me make my skin crawl. I am not scare of them but I find them irritating. They'll come around a few times in a year and start flying and landing randomly. Luckily, my cats love to chase them (though I hate the part they eat the cockroaches, eurgh~~~)

They scare me for some reason because when I see their legs with the sharp spikes, I think it must be painful if they get on your skin. I also have cats and they eat roaches sometimes but I noticed that dont eat the legs. Maybe it's cause of the spikes. I don't know...but it's always easy to find out if my cats have eaten roaches because they leave the legs behind. It's still disgusting though. Thanks for sharing.

I am terrified!!! of flying roaches, so much so that it would likely prevent me from living certain places. Since they ( the roaches) are a part of the landscape due to climate etc there is no getting around them...I wish!!! I did not have this fear. It is so limiting and I know it seems silly to many but it really is a serious phobia for many. I live in Northern California, San Francisco Bay Area. My partner wants to move to Hong Kong for a few years for a teaching job. I said maybe IF there are no flying roaches. SO the next question is this are there any? Not just in your house but are they in Hong Kong? what about water bugs? and what about other parts of China. Thanks for your post!
