With a political arms race in full force, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) has raised almost $750,000 in less than 48 hours since his shout of "You lie!" to President Obama during the Wednesday address to Congress, almost matching the Internet-fueled haul of his likely Democratic opponent.
A senior GOP official said Wilson, who apologized to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel after the health-care speech but has since refused a more public apology, has turned his own previous sleepy campaign machine into an Web-friendly effort. Just as liberals have poured cash into the campaign of Rob Miller, who lost to Wilson by almost eight percentage points in 2008, conservatives are pouring contributions into Wilson's campaign at an astonishing rate.

Of course, by acting like an obnoxious fool he's endeared himself to some on the far right and of course they donated to his campaign. It's a long, long time until the 2010 election but his opponent has pulled ahead of him in the latest polls, even in heavily Republican South Carolina. I don't think anyone would want their child to grow up to be like Joe Wilson! It might be a real hoot to those of you on the right for someone to be disrespectful towards President Obama but what if someone whose role-model was Joe Wilson grows up to treat a conservative President that way? Not so cool, huh? Wilson is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and has ties to neo-confederate groups whose agendas are thinly veiled white supremacy. He fought to keep the Confederate Flag at the State House in South Carolina. It appears that he "pals around with White Supremacists". His behavior during the President's address the other night shouldn't be so surprising after all.

I've been very careful about calling anyone or implying they are racist since I do understand that's a serious charge and I've been misunderstood in the past and sincerely felt awful about it.

If that's true, then Joe Wilson was right. However, his statement was a little bit out of line. It's always rude to criticize the office of president... It would have been more appropriate to shout something like, "Open to interpretation."
Of course, the entire House Bill on healthcare is open to interpretation which is my major complaint about it.
