matsulori (135) | 3 months ago | From the colossal squid wiki: "Unlike the giant squid who only has suckers lined with teeth, the colossal squid's limbs are also equipped with sharp hooks, some swiveling, some three-pointed. Its body is wider and stouter, and therefore heavier, than that of the giant squid..." Very interesting. I hadn't yet heard of colossal squid yet. Thanks.

| | 2. matsulori (135) | 3 months ago | http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_squid They're not extremely rare. They live very deep in the ocean (in all the oceans of the world) which is why they're rarely seen, and only seen dead. The only time they've been seen alive is on film, deep in the ocean. Whales eat them. This is known by the scars on the whales' skin and by the size of the squid beaks found in whales' stomachs. Like all squid, it has eight arms and two tentacles.

golvine (213) | 4 weeks ago | it seems the innocent creatures of the sea like giant squids fall prey to larger animals like whales.sealife is extremely competitive as it looks. more than landlife. as whales are not intelligent in selecting their foods, they eat whatever they get.maybe we must isolate the giant squids from the sea and grow them separately.

matsulori (135) | 4 weeks ago | Where do you get your statement that whales aren't intelligent when it comes to choosing/finding food? You have no facts to back that up. As a matter of fact, Sperm Whales are members of the mammalian group called cetaceans, and ALL cetaceans are much more intelligent than your average floating joe. The bonds between members of a sperm whale pod are strong and long-lasting. The members of pod protect the young, the sick, and the injured. Groups of females with their young are common. This pod structure allows the females to dive very deeply to hunt, while leaving her young calf, who is unable to dive very deeply, at the surface and protected by the pod. Sperm whales use echolocation to catch their prey in the deep oceanic darkness. This is also how a mother locates her calf, so that it doesn't get lost. I'm sorry, but I can't see anything but nature taking its course, and that to me is beautiful. Everything needs some type of sustenance. This doesn't make the Sperm Whale any less intelligent just because YOU don't understand how they live and what impact they make on the Earth.
