Grrr... 4 AM Phone Call! |
| |
| As you may now I had a painful medical procedure done to me yesterday. It was a rough night and sleep ws hard to come by. My son woke at 3AM needing some motherlove and a bottle and by the time I fell back asleep the last thing I wanted to hear was a ringing phone next to my head! My husband sells some of his stuff on craigslist (ATVs and DirtBikes mostly). He puts up his cell number and the house number. Well some asshat called at four freaking o'clock in the morning to speak to him about the damned ad! I told the guy "It's 4 in the morning everybody is SLEEPING" and the foll (who could barely speak English) is all like, "Oh well I'm in Florida" so I said to him that Florida is in the same freaking time zone so it's 4 AM there too! Shoot, even if he was calling California it would have been 1AM! WTF is WRONG with some people? When I am woken up at night it takes a very long time for me to fall back asleep, and after this dumbass woke me it took HOURS to get back to sleep because of the pain I am in and because I was so PISSED! Then the clock went off and it was time to wake hubs at quarter to seven and take care of my dogs. So here I am sleepless, in pain, and pissed off. Unless somebody important to me is dead, dying or my house is on fire, there is no good reason to call my house in the middle of the damned night! Has this crap ever happened to you? Are you the type of person to DO crap like this to people? | | | | | |

| | Asshat is putting it very nicely. What is wrong with people? He was in FL and doing that crap where did he think he was calling.. half way around the world not just a short plane ride away. I am so sorry to hear that your sleep (didn't think you would get much at all to tell you the truth) was broken by some jackass!!! I hate the phone but it is a necessary evil for me. I have to have it. I have a hard enough time sleeping as it is I don't need some twit that cant tell time or who doesn't care disturbing my 4 or less hours. I am like you I believe that Unless somebody important to me is dead, dying or my house is on fire, there is no good reason to call my house in the middle of the damned night Sorry that you are still in pain BTW | | | | | | |

| | I don't answer my phone unless I know who it is anyway, so if you call me at 4am I'm going to know it's you and I'm going to know that it's important because you would never be so inconsiderate without a damn good reason. OMG I fear for the future of our country when morons don't understand time zones. Poor honey...I feel terrible for you. I wish there was something I could do to ease your suffering.... | | | | | | |

| | Kitty- I don't have a house phone, only a cell phone and I keep those in another room when we're sleeping. I do not answer them at night. I let anyone who has my number know that I will not return calls until the next morning. I also keep times in mind when calling people. I am personally up until 2am each evening because of my husband's work schedule, but I do not make calls after 8pm, unless someone asks me to phone. I feel so bad your night was disturbed by someone who could not bother to know their time zones! May this evening be more restful sweetheart. Namaste-Anora | | | | | | |

| | Ugh... I hate that we live in such an "on demand" world. People expect to be able to call customer service departments any time, day or night, and speak to a real person. They expect stores to stay open 24/7, even if they never make use of those services (because, you know, someday they "might" need something at 2AM). I've worked in online communities for 10 years and I can't tell you how many times admins, moderators and the like get BLASTED by members for not taking action about something that happens in the middle of the night. Evidently, we are not entitled to lives, or even sleep, like everyone else. Our eyes and ears are supposed to be constantly glued to our jobs, whereas other people get evenings, weekends and holidays off. I'm pissed off right along with you, AngryKittyMSV, and I'm terribly sorry that you had your sleep interrupted, especially when you are convalescing. Many people quite simply have NO manners and a HUGE sense of entitlement. Like you, if my phone rings in the middle of the night, I immediately assume it's bad news or an emergency and go flying to the phone to answer. I've had people calling the wrong number do that to me and one guy I actually said, "You have the wrong number - and I assume whoever you are trying to reach at this hour won't appreciate being woken up either!" I've considered shutting off all ringers and letting my machine pick up all phone calls and I'll return the ones I need to return - but again, I worry about emergencies and would never do that if either of my girls have not yet come home. I work and sleep really weird hours, as do people that work non-standard or graveyard shifts. Sometimes, the "middle of the night" for those people is everyone else's mid-afternoon so it's hard to determine a "best time" to call, I suppose. As a rule for myself, though, I would never call anyone later than 9PM (and that is usually only if I've been assured it's ok to call at that time). The craigslist and such folks need to learn to use email for their inquiries, where it's offered. It's a lot more respectful, doesn't require an "oh so difficult" timezone calculation and if a person is motivated to sell their stuff, they are going to send a very prompt reply. It doesn't always take a phone call. | | | | | | |
