Telemarketing call from incredibly rude man

Not rude. Not ignorant. I'm sure that what he told you was just a script that he followed to deal with people who say that they didn't ask for any information. There's no point arguing -- his intent is to sell you something and the longer he can keep you on the line the better chance he has of breaking down your resistance. You don't owe him any explanations at all.

As soon as I know what that kind of person is after, I tell them that I'm not interested and I hang up immediately.

I have had this before my friend, and I bet you if you haven't already dialled 1471 and found that the caller withheld their number? If they have then they are not kosher, he had a right cheek saying that to you. I hate cold callers and people who say you've entered a competition or filled in a form and you know damn well that you haven't but needless to say you start doubting yourself! I do online competitions too. I think he became nasty because you weren't interested and quite rightfully so! You don't know who you are talking to and you could have been quite easily scammed! These people are bullies and they can start off all nice to you but when you turn them down they can turn nasty quickly!

As much as it often seems that telemarketers are very rude people, I don't think that they actually are. I've worked in telemarketing before when I was in college. We were raising funds from alumni and everything that we did had to come from a script. Depending on what the response was to each question or comment we had to move on to a certain part of the script. However, I wasn't really the best at doing the telemarketing because when someone told me no, I would get off of the phone with them as soon as the opportune time came.
The scripts that these people have to use can sometimes be harsh and that is the reason that I didn't return to my job after the first year.

Sounds like a scammer to me.

We are unlisted and never give the number out and we're also registered with the TPS so no-one other than our own bank, etc, should call us.

We do sometimes get sales calls from people dialling at random and asking for "the householder". I just have fun with those, my latests wheeze is pretending we are a military facility on full alert "Sargeant Jones, trace this call and have this company's 'phones disconnected!" - I don't see why I shouldn't have some fun with these people.

Another one we got recently was a call from someone in India with a heavy accent but insisting he was called Kevin and in the UK. He said he was calling in regards to a claim for compensation for a "member of your family who was in an accident".

My response was "I have an alibi! There were witnesses to my whereabouts when it happened. You can't prove anything". He got very confused and went away.

We are getting eight to ten unrequested calls from these people - usually the same numbers ringing every day (and we have tried to get them blocked).

They are selling things that we do not want, and cannot afford. If they start off being polite, they are also lying through their teeth. And they do not understand "no thank you" (or "nein, danke" in German).

These days we have adopted the habit of picking up the 'phone, so they are forced to pay for the call, not saying anything, and hanging up on them after a few seconds.

I get that quite often and when I say nicely that I'm not interested they go "THANK YOU!" but in a rude way. Some even raise their voices.

Some of them are pretty rude and I dont justify but I think a lot of telemarketers have quotas and if they dont make a sale they might lose their job. Probably the reason why they're so edgy.

These days, calls from telemarketers are unsolicited. They called it cold-calling. They hope someone will respond positively and make their day. Yes, I have both good and polite persons on the other line and also my share of rude brutes. These personal details like emails and hand phones numbers are sold in the open market for a song and these telemarketing companies will use them to do business and to disturb us no end.

He didn't care, he either wanted you to give him more personal information that he didn't have or was trying to sell you something by getting you to say yes to him. He most likely got angry because when you say no, he gets no money. I would have explained nothing to him and told him not to call again and hang up. If there's a next time, Ask for a number to contact them and see if it actually works. Most of the time they will tell you that they can't give you a number or they give you a dead 1-800 number.

was a out and out lie. I had no time share nor interest'in one at any time. So I told him that was all a lie and asked hime'to leave me alone. So then he started getting really nasty so I just
hung up on him.
