Is it unethical for gamers to use cheat codes and use tips to pass the level  

I like games, I play a lot of them. I like to beat the game first then will go for cheat codes to up my score. I think it's just me wanting to get through it first on my own. If I get stuck there are forums and game spots that I can go for tips in strategy to help me through it. Sometimes we get stuck and can't see all the options.

But generally, I want to get through it myself with tips not the cheat codes. If I'm gaming with others then sometimes we put in cheat codes just so play around with certain games, but as a standard I don't use them.

I would say ethical no but practical yes. If you've ever play a game and have gotten stuck in a level or a place and you see no path forward then it is a time where you can look for at least game tips, so you don't waste unnecessary energy hitting your head against a wall. But simply using a cheat code for the sake of finishing a game has no point to it. You lose out on the fun and true aspect of the game that is to challenge a player's skills. I sometimes do use cheat codes but mainly after i'm finished playing the game such as GTA 4 its fun (for me anyways) to get as many cop stars as I can and for me to survive that long I require the health cheats sometimes. Well that's just for some laughs.

I think using tips or cheat codes are necessary for the now adays games. When i tried games like Mummy i got stuck in one level. I tried for more than 10 days. After that i lost the interest in that game. I stopped playing it.

Recently my friend told me the cheat code. I completed the game. Now i can complete the game without cheat codes. Otherwise i will get frustrate. Some games are designed in such away that without cheat codes playing is almost impossible.

When it's a single player game, where people are playing alone and offline, I don't really see the lack of ethics there.

Well, true enough, it tells us that a person may not be the most committed to a task, but sometimes the tasks that games propose us can be a little bit too demanding. But in the end, I think that above lack of ethics is the pleasure of who plays the game... if it doesn't detract from the player's enjoyment, I don't see what's wrong.

Now, when it comes to cheat online because someone has an ego problem, that becomes another story and that's far worse than lacking ethics, it's having no respect.

Depends on the person. I you've played through the game once and want to see all the cool stuff you can get, sure. If you just want to breeze through the game, sure.

I try to playthe games without the cheat codes and/or cheats, but if I get stuck in a game after numerous times playing the same level I usually go looking for the cheat to get by that level ONLY. It is not entertaining to use a cheat unless I am frustrated at the point in the game I can not get by to next level.

I use cheats only when I have already beaten the game. Its just plain insanity to screw around with cheats and do crazy things.
I've used hits and walkthroughs before, only if i am really really stuck.

I don't think so. They make cheat codes for a reason, cheaters. LOL! Well I myself use cheat codes well not to just pass a level but to get good weapons and things like that. I like the use of it too. It make's it easier for the game. I don't think it's cool that cheat code's make it easy don't we all need a challange in a game, at least.

lol i have Acer and a computer, i use the computer mostly but prefer to use laptop only when i am on tour, it is then only i play some in built games, not much idea on games dear, sorry.
