Yes I am telling you that you do not need to be on those horrible weight gaining antidepressants. I was for three years and am sucessfully off of them for good. I was talking to my pharmacist and she suggested taking a vitimin D supplement. I take a calcuim with vitimin D supplument in it every day two 600 mgs of calcuim with 1000 mgs of vitimin D in each one. I feel great!!! Give it a try I bet you will be able to improve your mood and hopefully get off those horrible meds. Do not do this without consulting your doctor first though, you need to wean off the antidepressants or serious side effects can and will occor. So would you be willing to give this a try and why?

I've already used a natural remedy for depression. but I didn't do it on a pharmacist's recommendation. It was a product that I got from a Naturpathic doctor. Helped me quite a lot. Other than vitamin B, I don't remember what was in it though.

Tell mef i got this correct: 2 - 600mgs of calcium
2 - 1000mgs of Vitamin 'D' a day, every day...yes i would be wiling to try this if i could get off of prozac for good..this would be awesome...lori

Lori im taking 2 600 mg of calcium with vitimin D added. The amount of vitimin D is 800 mgs per tablet. So two of them a day (one in the morning) one later in the day will work! Give it a try but like I said DO NOT GO OFF PROZAC without consulting your doctor first you need to be weaned off of it. I was on paxil and gained so much weight and I didnt like the fact that a drug was interfiering with my brain. Let me know what the doc says and if you get to try this. It works!!

i see my doctor on the 6th of October, & i will se if i can get weaned off of prozac.. i would really love to try this remedy. I have gained so much weight i can no longerbuy clothes offof the rack at walmart..that's bad!! I am just misrable being so heavy..i also want to get te 'biaratric' surgery done, but have to go to gym fr 6 months in order for insurance to pay for it....thanks for this carol..lori

Lori go get the calicuim with D now and get started on it. After about a week call your doctor and he will tell u how to wean off of the prozac. very slowly and once your off the prozac you wont NEED that surgery. The weight will come off. It did for me. It takes time but it took time for u to gain it too right? Keep me posted and GOOD LUCK!!

I know you know from Facebook that I've been using a Wii Fit to help track my weight loss, as well as aid in it. Using it plus walking daily, and doing martial arts weekly I have gone from over 300 pounds to 250 in 150 days. Just remember that weight loss takes time. I would also recommend using The 6-Week diet plan to help find out what foods will help your body type lose weight. And make sure you are eating well and not starving yourself. When you starve yourself (as on most fad diets) you end up stocking up on fat because your body thinks it needs to store it. Currently I'm dropping anywhere from .4 to .9 pounds daily (sometimes a bit more but that is the average)

Lori-

Not a problem, that's what friends are for.: ) The 6 Week Diet is a program developed to help one eat the foods that each body type uses most efficiently. For example, for me I don't use pastas efficiently, but I burn the heck out of rice. So, I've changed my diet (what I eat) ever so slightly. And it focuses on eating the right amounts of protein, carbs, etc. It comes with a workout video for strength training using a band, as well as a booklet that you tailor just to you. That's what I liked about it. I don't know if posting their website would violate TOS, so just google The 6 Week Diet. You can do your body typing for free online. I don't use their online services, just their kit, but it's working well for me. And I'm not going hungry any longer!! That was a huge thing for me. And having kiddos, it was nice to have something to follow that was kid friendly.

My Doctor reccommends 1200-1500mgs Calcium and 1000mgs Vitamin D to all his women patients once they hit around early to mid thirties.

Also, regarding weight loss and foods that leave you feeling "sluggish" - stay away from anything white. White bread, pasta, potatoes, rice and so on. These foods slow down your metabolism and clog up your system.

Lori-

It's got a complete guide to the foods. The creator has been training people for over 20 years and it is his personally devised system of what he found to work best with different body types. The package comes with your custom body type, one that you put together based on the areas you want to lose weight around. The foods are divided on recipe cards and daily menu cards based upon your body type.

As for "whites", I think it depends upon the person. I personally don't eat much white food anymore, but I still eat rice. I simply eat long grain brown rice or basalmic. I still eat potatoes both white and sweet/yams. I also switched over to whole grains. I think by just calling foods "white" may be slightly misleading. Pye went off all HFCS and said she had some results, so I think it is more about going off anything "processed" rather then simply color.

I have worked with mental illness and I have seen so many people loose their hair as well as other side effects from taking antidepressants and never will I ever take any. I would be wiiling to give anything natural like a vitamin a try. I suffer from the blues alot lately but I am not so sure it is even depression but I consider myself blessed because I take no medications that require a perscription.

You are new to my friends list so I do not know your background that well. However, stating that it is a "cure" is walking a fine line. I have dealt off and on with depression, and I am a huge advocate for natural helps, butI also know that at times medication is needed. No one should feel bad about having to be on medication, or even in therapy. There are conditions that warrant people staying on medication to be able to maintain a normal life, and advising them to do elsewhat is dangerous.

In terms of the vitamin mentioned, I also know that vitamin B12 is a huge component of natural help. Dr. Weil and Dr. Kim both recommend getting items with it in or taking supplements. Dr. Weil also recommends eating foods rich in antioxidants. Do make sure when taking vitamins to take the appropriate dosage because some vitamins are fat soluable and cause serious issues if over dosed.

Good to hear you are off the meds and doing well. I sometimes think the antidepressants can cause mood swings. Have seen this in others.

I haven't ever been on antidepressants. I do know there is a weaning period to get off them safely. Some have side effects and that would be weight gain. Others can be dangerous to simply quit without doctor's approval. I only take a multivitamin daily to try to stay healthy.

Yes carolbee I agree no one should go off their meds any meds without consulting their doctor. I too take a multivitimin but im telling you a fact, vitimain D will improve your mood, its like sunshine in a bottle!!

I have never taken vitamin D. My mood is even most of the time. Nothing much stressing me out here which is a good thing. I know the oral surgeon told my husband to watch it with vitamin C. Can cause gum problems. This is the first time I've heard this one.

I would just like to say that i have been battling depression for all my adult life, in my opinion i dont think it is quite that easy as to go on vitamins depression is a serious sickness n it has alot to do with the nerons in your brain n that is what anti depressants are for you lack seritonen witch needs to be managed with medication. I have battled this sickness for a very long time and been on every medication you can emagine n i am still no better along with counciling it is a very hard thing to deal with on a daily basis n i dont recomend any body stops taking their medidication to try this without consulting their doctors first..and i truly beleive that mabe their was a chance you didnt even have depression because if it was that easy to do nobody would be dealing with this sickness and trying to deal with all the horrible meds that go along with it n like i say this is just my oppinion based on what i have dealt with n how i feel!!

Thanks so much for this information caroll but I'm afraid to even try it because I came off of my medicines once before to try others and they didn't do me any good at all. In fact, I was much worse than I was before so I vowed to stay on the one that worked and never come off of them ever again. I wish I could but knowing how I was, choking sobs and hyperventilating and so on, I'm too afraid to try it but it's good to know because there are others that aren't on any medications at all and maybe they will try this and work for them! I have been on antidepressents, but not for a long time now, but i do get my down days, when i feel low, and horrible.
What you suggest sounds good, and i am going shopping today, so i will definetely be looking for the vitamin you describe, and giving it a try.

Hi forestgold. please DO NOT go off your antidepressant though not until u talk to your doctor. Which one are you on? Also what works for one person may not work for the next. Another essentail supplement to go along with the calcium and Vitimin D is omega 3 fish oil. Good luck, and let me know how you do!

NO, i am NOT on anti depressents hun, came off them years ago.
I do still get days though, when i feel down (not every day), so i have been and bought the supplements you mentioned.
I will give it a try, and see how i feel.
Anyway, the calcium is good for the bones etc, so cannot hurt to give them a try. happy
