Does the number in here ( ) really show how long you have been on Mylot?

Does the number next to your name reflect how long you have been here? I don't think so and why may you ask? Well I have been here for 3 years but my number doesn't show it. That's because I got so excited by Mylot and worked and worked got paid once then felt burnt out and left for a while. OK a long while. I would come back every few months or so and I just couldn't get back into this place. Nothing against Mylot or my friends,it is just life you know. I think sometimes people look at that number and say "oh that person must be new" or "here is an oldie to mylot". In fact just the other day an "oldie" responded in my discussion and said since I was a newbie I should take time to read the Mylot rules. So does your number reflect your Mylot age? Why or why not?

I know that it's the number of discussions you've responded to (or relatively, anyways), but I used to look at the number and say "Oh, that person has been here a long time" or "That person must be a newbie." However, I know people that have been on here longer than me with a smaller number, and other people that have been on here for a shorter time than me with a much larger number. It doesn't even really show how active you are, either, because posting a single emoticon on a bunch of discussions will make the number increase rapidly, while carrying on a lengthy conversation on one discussion will only make the number increase by one. So, basically the number is only a way to achieve certain "milestones", but it doesn't really mean much else.

No, it doesn't reflect how long you've been on mylot. But it does reflect how active you are and how experienced you are.

Yes it does show how active you are,but experienced I am not so sure. Even if you are a seasoned vet of mylot doesn't mean you won't make mistakes or even not know all the ins and outs of mylot. We are all human and do make mistakes and none of us know everything.

I never assume anything at all (and not only concerning the numbers beside th e username). I have seen users with 1 post start a discussion and they set off by saying 'I'm new' and then make some sort of typo or spelling mistake which a user who was banned a few days before always made - 'new' yeah yeah yeah! Been through the washer more like They have little importsance to me as I am aware that many users have a lower number than they would have if they had not cancelled their accounts (or been deprived of them). I am happy when a friend reaches a certain milestone but it does not represent anything more thah their activity. I forget about my own number when I land on discussions by new users and forget that I probably frighten them off I know that was how I felt when a user with a big number 'landed' on me when I was new.

Well you never have to worry about scaring me off! Because I enjoy the input of others no matter how long they have been here. I try not to assume anything myself. But have caught myself a time or two referring to someone being new. I like to offer help and tips when I can but I surely don't want to do it in a crude way. However over the last 3 days MANY users have assumed I was new. It could be because of my grammar or something. I still have horrible typos and for the most part Firefox is nice enough to help em fix it. However sometimes I spell the wrong word right. Another DOH moment.

That is reassuring thank you. I was called 'the yellow peril' by one user when he was new though he knows too thet my bark is worse than my bite now I would never assume that a user with the number you have is 'new'. You have already clocked up almost four figures so one assumes you know your way around - though I guess none of us ever know all that there is to know here, no matter how hard we try

MM that`s a good question babyangie. Since I am kinda new I can`t answer it though lol. In fact I don`t think I have ever read the rules. I guess I better huh? I might be doing something wrong and not even know it.

Well I meant it as this. Ok you have been on the site longer than a few days. I know this because you are my friend. But because of your small number people assume you have no clue what you are doing. See what i mean? I more meant it as do you assume or judge people here based on their number alone?

I don`t even look at the numbers. I am the kind of person who does not judge people anyway. Especially on a forum. I don`t know them personally so I would never say or do anything to hurt someones feelings.

It's actually showing activity. It is indirectly influenced by the number of discussions and responses, and also by the number of days your active. If you're not active for a long time, the number decreases. Mylot is using it to show relative activeness of members. eg: a member with activity 500 is more active than a member with activity 300. Happy mylotting. :D

Thanks Lamb for clearing that up because I was wondering. You confused me a bit when you said it decreases after time cambiste. Because I took a LONG break from Mylot because well most of my friends disappeared and I find it hard to find people that get my humor or that like me at all.

I watched the number as I posted comments on discussion and my number increase for each comment I made so no it is not how long you have on mylot. It refers to the number of post you have done here on mylot.

I know the technical reason yes but I mean some people look at only the number and assume either that person is new or an old member simply because of that fate. When many times newbies have more than some oldies.

Hi baby! The number in bracket ( ) shows the total number of posts, which we responded/started. It has nothing to do with our tenure at mylot. Our profile page, how long we have been here on mylot. I agree with you that some of us get confused by seeing the total number of posts against someone's name and if the number of posts happen to be less, we may think that s/he is a newbie. I think to clear our doubts about any new comer, we should visit his/her profile to check, when did s/he actually join mylot.

Actually no. That number is the number of posts you have made. The number is higher the longer you've been here simply b/c most ppl post more the longer they are here. I have seen ppl that have been here for years and have less than a hundred posts. !!Happy Turkey Day!! ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Compared to some of the other mylotters on here? Heck no! LOL I've been here for 2 and a half years and don't even have half the amount of what some of the others have. That's okay though. I'm not in hurry to watch my post count go up. I just post when I can. That's good enough for me. So, to answer your question, no, the number in here ( ) does not necessarily reflect how long we have been a member here. It might for some, but it doesn't apply to everyone. Happy mylotting!

No it does not reflect how long you have been here. It reflects how active you are and that is about it. Not sure just why someone would suggest that you read the rules but maybe because you haven't been here much maybe that person thought you were new??? Maybe they should have said refresh yourself on the rules instead?? I'm not sure. I haven't seen you breaking any of the rules so I could be wrong on this.

Yes I know what the TRUE meaning behind the number is,I was more meaning do you or do you think people look at that number and assume a person is new or old to the site based on it alone. I have a bad time getting my meaning across I suppose. O had my first discussion deleted the other day and someone remarked I should have read the rules, and that I was a newbie ruining the site with my deleted discussion. That reply has been deleted by mylot I believe because I can no longer find it. That is what made me wonder if people look at the number and make assumptions.

Oh no problem,I didn't take offensive so much to the newbie comment as I did the rest of the response. It was quite rude, but I no longer associate with this person and have since moved on. But the whoe thing did make me wonder.

I don't normally pay attention to the numbers at all but maybe if someone posted something against the rules, I may be guilty of looking at a low number and assuming that they just didn't know it was against the rules. Did you take offense to that? I don't think it was meant to be offensive. Even if you had been here a long while, I'm thinking the advice would have been the same only the person have not referred to you as a newbie. Not clear on just what the problem is here.

The number increases: - the first time you respond on a discusson created by others - the first tim eyou leave a comment on a response on a discussion started by others (further comments donot cause it to increase) - when a discussion started by you receives the first 2 responses - or 1 rsponse + 1 comment. ALL your activity creates earnings regardless of whether the number increases or not.

He he... the person should have checked your profile before commenting on something like that. I used to do that because if I see a discussion especially about rules and guidelines, I would go and check the user's profile just to make sure whether s/he is a newbie. I do not mean you because how long does a lotter has to be here before s/he is considered an oldie?? So far I have more than 200 posts and I have been here for four months now. I am not sure if it does show how long I have been here because some users who have been here at the same time as I am or who have just joined myLot have MORE than the number of posts I have. Some of them even have more than 500 posts already. So, I think it depends on how regular the users do postings and there is no telling like four months here, I should have 400 posts by now or whatsoever.

yes the technical reason for the numbers is to show their activity but sometimes people look at that number and assume either one of two things. Welcome to mylot by the way. I am not sure how often people look at other peoples profile before responding to a discussion. I know I don't do it that often myself.

no not at all because i have seen a member here whose been hear for a year and that had half the number of post i did. the reason why is because they said they have come back to give mylot a second chance. so what i think they were saying is they quit mylot long ago when they only had few responses then came back so they were probably in active for about most of the year and just stayed on a month. and i do count the months they have been inactive for because other people might to. and also some people write less so they might get finish with answering the question very quickly so they will go on to the next question probably beating the person who has been hear for 5 months. so they might end up having more post than the person whose been hear for more months. thats usually how it goes because usually newbies just think they can write one sentence than there finish. well thank you for this interesting discussion.

yes there is alot of newbies that type one sentence or word and expect that to pay them the money they want. You have a point about who gets there first too. I myself never seem to be the first to respond to my friends discussions,I think that is why I tend to be trolling threw zero response discussions more often as of late.

I can't remember exactly what my number is but I've been a member here for more than 3 years. I know in comparison with some others who joined around the same time as me it's not that high. I used to spend quite a lot of time on myLot and would log in at least everyday but the last year or so I haven't been on here that much. I just got bored with it I guess and I have other things to do. I will still log on occasionally when I'm looking for something else to do to avoid doing some work (which is why I'm on here right now!).

I know what you mean about getting bored thing. That is kind of what happened to me a few years back. This is mostly the reason why my number is so low after being here for 3 years myself. I know what the true meaning is. But I wondered if people look at the number and think hey this person is an oldie or hey this person is new based only on thenumber.

The number enclosed in parentheses near my name does not reflect my mylot age. I have been a member for three years now and I think the number really represents the number of responses you have made. My number really did not rise to more than a thousand in spite of being a member for three years because I was more interested in reading discussions rather than posting responses.

hi, thanks for sharing this discussion... regarding to ur question, that number doesnt reflect on how long are u in mylot...it reflects ur user rating which shows how active u are in mylot... everytime u make a discussion or respond to a discussion u are given a rating..it can increase or decrease depending on the content of ur discussion or response... i hope this could help... have a nice day and happy mylotting... ^_^

Yes I know this. This is not what I meant. If you read a little further down into my discussion I was saying. DO you judge a member as being an newbie to the site or an oldie to the site, based on their number next to their name. I didn't literally mean what does the number mean. I already know what it means. I am sorry to have confused so many people about it.

Well the number just signifies the number of posts you have placed in mylot discussions.. it doesnt show age at all.. Someone who enjoys blogging and posting a lot might post as much as 30 to 40 posts a day and within 1.5 months they would be able to reach the number of posts you have achieved in 3 years!! Age has nothing to do with the number beside your mylot username!!

the numbers is not an indication of how long you have been here, but it show how active you are. in fact,i don't care about the numbers near the name, and i don't care if one person is new or old here,i pay more attention to the words the person say, and how much i learn from these words.
