Should your daycare go on field trips?

When opening a daycare, there are two kinds of parents you must think about when deciding whether or not to do field trips.

The first set of parents want their kids exposed to all kinds of educational experiences. They are very pro-field trip and will probably be looking for child care that involves regular expeditions.

The other set are the worried, controling parents (like me) who are more concerned about safety, security and exposure. They will be against regular field trips (unless they may also attend) and will want to know that there is a detailed, structured plan in place before any trip is attempted.

As a child care provider, you'll be forced to make a decision. That decision will automaticallly cancel out potential clients who share the opposite viewpoint. This is okay. You are not required to be everything to everyone. You should do what feels right for you, your children, and your business.

If you do decide to not do field trips, keep in mind that there are plenty of companies willing to bring classes to your location. This will expand your educational opportunities and experiences while still enjoying the safety and security of your child care center.
