Harry potter, Could it make a television series? |
|
The Terminator done it, Blade done it, Why cant Harry Potter do it??? Do you think Harry Potter would make a good television series?? Why or why not? I think it could as long as they dont mess up the whole story. I didnt like the blade series too much but the terminator did an okay job. Maybe Harry Potter could do better. Tell me what you think.

1. Tantrums (946) | 3 months ago | Yes of course! As long as they keep the original casts! Make sure that Dobby has his parts and they don't miss out in any important detail in the story...

Laurie1986 (285) | 3 months ago | I'm pretty sure there's no way they could get the original cast--especially not Dan Radcliffe; his career is taking off too quickly.

2. jodylee_04530 (509) | 3 months ago | I think that would be a great series on TV. I would watch it for sure. Your right about messing up the story and it is always hard to take a movie because new people fill the roles. I would love to see a series that starts from when Voldemort was at Hogwarts and give more details up to Harry Potter being born. I think it would be a nice way to introduce the series without piggy backing off the already popular movies too much.

| chipmunk2921 (37) | 3 months ago | I agree, that would be the best way to make the series. But Harry has to be born sometime and when he does that would be the end of the series because then it would be going into the original story. Thanks for the response.

jodylee_04530 (509) | 3 months ago | Just because Harry is born does not mean the story would end does it. It would just bring you back to what has been read in the books and seen in the movies. There are new angles to take and so many twists to elaborate on it would make the series that much better.

3. linamachina (250) | 3 months ago | Absolutely! I think jodylee has the right idea though, to approach it as more of the before Harry Potter storyline would be cool. Maybe expand on Harry's dad and mom, Sirius, etc. The books themselves have so much material to work with. I also think staying true to the storyline is vital! Maybe something about Harry kids? What do you think?

jodylee_04530 (509) | 3 months ago | I like that as well. I think Harry's kids are a great idea. I know it could work and there is a ton of material to work with and lots of great characters ready to go. I would love to see it!

4. sophisticated_boy (527) | 3 months ago | Actually it makes more sense to adapt it on TV, being that each HP books is telling the story of one full year and one season is perfect to tell the whole year without cutting too much storyline. However I imagine the production cost must be really expensive to keep all those Howgarts art direction, visual effecsts, cameos, etc. I think it would be impossible for any TV channel to run those costs for every episode.

linamachina (250) | 3 months ago | You really made a good point that adaptation to a series makes sense since each book is a year in Harry's life. I think the viewers expectations would be so high in comparison to the movies that the tv production would be too costly as you pointed out and if the tv production didn't measure up the outcry would be too great and the show would be cancelled. But then again, if enough sponsors and enough interest was generated I think the production costs could be offset. I wonder how J.K. Rowling would feel about a tv series.

5. aseretdd (6851) | 3 months ago | I think that is a great idea... since the last movie will be shown in 2011... fans like us will be left in like a void without nothing to look forward to... but i just hope they won't mess with the plot or story that much...
It would be nice though if the can start with the childhood of Dumbledore... then work their way up to the story of Harry Potter in Hogwarts...

| chipmunk2921 (37) | 3 months ago | Yeah, I am ready for the final movie yet i dont want it to end. (just a thought, i wonder if we could make this discussion so big that we could have someone from Warner Bros. to take a look at it and actually make the series. But it is just a THOUGHT.)

| 6. brooksmm3 (21) | 3 months ago | I think the Harry Potter phenomenon is starting to fade. Even the movies are starting to become less popular. I think a television series would be too much for the already waning series. I think it is just sad to try and drag out the series. Unless JK Rowling is writing stories for the show, it wouldn't really be HP anyway, it would just be a series using characters from the books.

7. Laurie1986 (285) | 3 months ago | If this show were produced I think it would get excellent ratings as long as the cast and writing team were good--the mania surrounding the release of the sixth film this past summer is proof that the fandom hasn't really died down too much.
That said, Jo Rowling would never let it happen, because it would involve other writers taking her characters and coming up with original material involving them, and she has stated point blank that she wants the story to end exactly where she placed the ending. Yes, you could fill in some blanks in the timeline that has already been established, but I just don't see her allowing this to happen. Her deal with Warner Bros. was very carefully worded--they do not have the rights to write original material based on her universe for profit, and I don't believe she will ever sell that right. It's not like she needs the money.

The most important thing that they must have is not skipping parts of the book.
