Hey!

I was just wondering if it would be cheaper to just have a cellphone, and not worry about having a house phone AND cellphone? This might seem like an obvious answer but if I got, like an unlimited minute/text plan...would it be worth it just to have that?

Thanks!

hi lily.

we used to have a landline phone. and we have at least 4 cell phones. it's quite expensive to have them all especially when it comes to monthly payment. so we stopped using landline. with cell phones, we can always let them no load (for prepaid subscription) for two months and never worry that it will get cut off.

Yeah...I figured it would be cheaper just to have a cell phone. And I don't really like talking on the phone anyways so I why spend money on two different ones? lol. I defeniatly think it would just be easier to have a cell phone I can carry around:P

Thanks for the response!

It depends on whether you have the bundled package for internet, phone, and tv. If the phone includes free caller id, and free long distance for the States, Canada, and Puerto Rico and if your cell phone costs a a lot for unlimited minute and text, you need both. But if you have to pay extra for the stuff for the land line, like you have to pay extra for caller id, etc. then skip it and just use the cell phone.
It also depends whether you are a gabber and you text a lot. I watch the judge shows and I find that when the person gabs a lot and texts a lot, then the advantages of a cell phone disappear and they use more. With land lines, you get a basic local phone rate, and long distance and the other things are extra. The advantage of a cell phone is that you can only give the number to your friends, and so will not get telemarketers unless you give the number on the net.
So you have to see what costs the less and what is the most advantageous.

Well...the place I would be moving too already has internet avaiable (not sure about cable)...so there really wouldn't be any point to me buying a bundle like that.

But if a cell phone has unlimited talk and text it wouldn't matter if I used it a lot right...but really, I'm not a big talker on phones, I hate talking on phones actually:P lol. I dont text right now only because I can't on my current phone, but I think texting would be something I would be more likely to do, and more interested in.

If the internet is included in the rent, or in the condo, then it would not be any point in buying a bundle, so I do think that the cell phone would be the way to go especially if you are the type who will not run up a big bill. And I think that when you find that every time you talk (if you get a pre-paid) you have to put out money, or you go over your minutes (if you are on a contact) you tend to not yap on the phone as often.
But I think for home owners, that a land line is necessary if the bundled program of cable or dsl, internet, and phone is cheaper then together and if they have family scattered all over the country and thanks for the best response.

I have a landline (through cable) that's actually cheaper than any cell phone plan I've considered. Although I seriously (despite the facts that cell phones probably contribute to tumor and towers distort the navigational functions of birds and bees thus killing them)want a cell phone I can't find one with a plan that competes with my cable-based landline w/free long distance. If you do find an awesome plan that is remotely inexpensive please pass the information along to me.

Okay I'm expecting a concise report, on know less than 23 service plans and options, at least 50 pages long, and in triplicate.

Seriously, though, I look forward to whatever you may learn. I spent a little time on the subject, but could not find any truly reasonable plans that are any less expensive than what I have... If you running into any awesome bundles phone/internet, etc., let me know as well, pllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.
thank you,
David

At first, it is. I've had many people choose the cell phone. It's a pain to tell everyone that your regular phone is off and to tell them to call you on the cell phone. Then you get calls at work unless you shut it off.

Then, after you've had the cell phone for awhile, they usually jack the prices up and then people are very, very sorry they got rid of their phone, but not always. I would check out the company and see what they will do after 6 months, a year, two years, etc.

I've been thinking about this very thing myself lately even though I have a voip house phone which is pretty cheap. I've been thinking about getting rid of it though because I really don't use it all that much. I really don't make that many calls and the fact is, even though I have a house phone, I use the cell most of the time. Most everyone that calls me calls the cell number because they know they'll get me even if I'm not home. The only problem is, without my hard line, I don't have my fax. Then again, I don't use it that much either. It's just really convenient when I do need to use it. Hmmmm... decisions, decisions...
