School uniform |
|
Some schools have them, some don't, some are very strict about it and others just have guidelines. My daughter is at a very good Catholic school, which she was fortunate to get into as more than half the applicants were turned down. The uniform is strict and makes her look like a tiny office worker. She looks adorable, but I can't help laughing at her! I'm uploading a picture so you can see. Do/did you have a uniform at your school? Parents, do your children wear a uniform?

| 1. naaz1021 (49) | 3 months ago | yea in my school i have a uniform which i dont like to wear at all...my previous school's uniform was better than mmy present one....in my present school the uniform is so complicated...and the funny thing is that it is green in colour...why cant there be no uniform and just wear normal colour dress...then iunderstood that uniform is essential because of it no person will be distinguished as rich or poor...high class or middle class..so its a good thing to have a uniform

caragh2608 (1007) | 3 months ago | Thank you for your response. Yes, I remember when I was at school, if we had a non-uniform day, a lot of kids made a big deal out of it, wearing their coolest clothes, and the kids whose parents could only afford cheaper imitation brands were picked on.

caragh2608 (1007) | 3 months ago | There are a few schools here which don't have uniforms, and one which I worked in for a while just had a vague colour code so the kids could wear what they wanted as long as it was the right colour. Both my primary and secondary schools had uniforms though, all the church-run schools I know of here have them.

3. dmrone (640) | 3 months ago | Hi! Before i started homeschooling my children, they were going to a public school that required uniforms. Now my grandson is going to school and the unforms are still required. I think it is a scam for children to wear the uniforms. The reasons the school went to uniforms as they were told to the parents: to keep the children from feeling bad about their clothes, the children would not be able to bring a weapon to school (which has happened at least twice since), and to keep fights down since all the children are not wearing different clothes (such as name brands with logos, which are still being worn just in the school uniform colors). I also think to make a first grader wear a white shirt, knowing they are going to play, and spill food, is not to smart. If wearing uniforms kept the children safe, or kept fights down i might could understand them, but the truth is they don't do either.

caragh2608 (1007) | 3 months ago | I've been told if parents don't comply with the school rules the child can lose their place, and all the clothes have to be official uniform with the school crest embroidered, so they can't cheat on that. I believe the uniform is really just to keep up the school's image, but I don't mind her wearing it because she looks smart and feels grown up.

caragh2608 (1007) | 3 months ago | On the plus side, when they're at school 5 days a week they don't need a lot of casual clothes, so I guess we save the extra money there. Her brother is pretty much guaranteed a place at the school so he will have her blazer and shirts passed down to him if necessary (I'm sure he won't notice the shirts button on the "girls" side lol)

5. Sweetchariot (944) | 3 months ago | She looks adorable in that picture, and like a mini executive. I might add though the blazer or sweater that she is wearing seems a bit too much for a young student as she. I attend Catholic Schools all my life, and am very familiar with uniforms, we didn't have blazers until our high school years, and wore only plaid jumpers in our grade school.
As she gets older you will probably hear her protest those uniforms as we all did when we were growing up. However, I remember my Junior year, when the school allowed us to vote on whether or not we wanted to continue with uniforms. The surprising result came when the final tally was claimed for continuing with uniforms. As much as we complained about them, the bottom line, we thought it would cause more competition, and more money to go without.

caragh2608 (1007) | 3 months ago | Yes, when I was at the school the blazers hadn't been introduced, the latest headteacher came up with that idea. I thought it was a bit much but all the other little ones were going to have them and I didn't want her to feel left out (they are optional, but we were "gently encouraged" to buy them!)

caragh2608 (1007) | 2 months ago | I'm very glad too as it means my son shouldn't have any problems getting in, they give priority to families who already have a child there. Its a good school, it gets the best SAT results in the area, so that was one of the main reasons I wanted her to get in

8. jugsjugs (2974) | 3 months ago | I think that all schools are strict on the school uniform now,as my children have to wear the uniform that you buy from the school with their emblem on it.It is very expensive to buy as well as expensive when thew children lose it or grow and need another one.The children do look smart in their uniforms i must say.

caragh2608 (1007) | 2 months ago | I think most secondary schools have uniforms now but a lot of primaries aren't bothered. I do think they look better in uniform, in schools where it isn't compulsory the kids don't look very tidy or organised

caragh2608 (1007) | 2 months ago | In secondary school (age 11-16) my friends and I campaigned for a better uniform, as ours was knee length skirts and knee high socks even in winter, no tights allowed. We asked for the option to wear trousers, but when we left, they changed it to calf-length pleated skirts and tights - it looks even worse!
