Do you jump in or stay away from controversial discussions on myLot? email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot3 months ago

Flipping through the various topics, I am realizing my topic "tendencies" here on myLot. There are some controversial discussions going on about religion, politics, abortion, and other heavy issues - and I can't get myself to jump in to voice my opinions. I don't know how heated these discussions actually become, but I could see myself getting into a huge ongoing debate where I'm not going to budge . . . and I don't feel like getting into a "brawl" on myLot. So I don't go there.

So do you respond to or ignore these controversial subjects? Would you drop a friend if you read that they had complete opposite views from you (regarding religion, politics, abortion, etc)?

Well, in my early days in my mylot adventure, I usually get involved in hot discussions that I got some negative reactions from others. It even lead to some bad experience. I learned from those experience. Therefore, as much as I can, I would like to leave those debatable and controversial discussions because I know that no one can win such. happy

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

I have wanted to get involved in those hot discussions, but I could see how one could get pelted by rocks. And I know I would pelt back. Sorry about some of the bad experiences! You're right, no one can win with those type of discussions . . . best to leave them alone!

myLot reputation of 43/100. IMEzekieL (512)  3 months ago

Bad experiences? Like what? Please share, if you won't mind.

myLot reputation of 91/100. learn2earn (10585)   ranked 258 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

Bad experience like someone was angry at me that every discussion I started or responded, he was there to do something negative and words that are not good to read and listen to...

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

learn2earn - Sounds like there was a troll following you around on myLot! Were you able to report this person and get rid of that stalker? That's one of the things I wondered would happen. thumbdown

myLot reputation of 89/100. ayebelle (229)  3 months ago

Yes no one can win, but its so nice to hear different views and opinions either negative or positive. But we should set our boundaries. We can do debate but in a good way. And good topics deserved for a good discussion.

Hmmmm if someone have bad comments to you,or in your discuassion Does it may affect your rating?

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

ayebelle - Yah, you're right that good topics deserve a good discussion. From the reader's point of view, it certainl gets interesting. It stirs a lot emotions, so heated discussions can go either way - sometimes good, sometimes hairy!! Yah, I wonder if ratings can be efffected . . . that sounds like a myLot discussion right there!

I always try to keep my feet planted in positive thoughts and actions. Debate is not my forte, because it can be taken wrong. I prefer a laid back approach to things. If it starts to get bloody, I am out of here happy

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

I try to keep positive too . . . but sometimes I'll read something that really strikes a nerve and I just want put in my two cents. I don't particularly like debating verbally, but I am more confident about written debates. But you're right, it can be taken wrong - either way - so why get into any potential rock pelting moments shocked on myLot, eh? Thanks geminikid!

I know what you mean, I think I have learned the hard way that people will just go against you in any of these subjects. Sometimes if what they say is extremely worth saying something to then I will put my foot in my mouth again. sad Well enter at your own risk because you know what it can create. Just remember remove all your personal pictures from your photos and once they start telling you off to report abuse is the last button on the rating (positive, negative, abuse) Good luck soldier! wink

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

Hee hee - enter at your own risk - that's exactly that it is! I haven't gotten involved in any heated subjects just yet . . . but I can smell already smell the smoke and I know I'd add more fuel to the fire!! I'm sure there are soldiers on both sides of the fence! Well, I don't want to be in a war in myLot - so I'll just read what everyone says. Geez, I hope people aren't abusing the abuse button! shocked

Sometimes you just have to pull the trigger. Let mylot be the judge as to whether they stay or go but it's you or them. wink

I respect all different religions although I am not a religious person myself. I think that religion is an interesting topic but I don't find myself discussing it all that much on My Lot.

I do discuss some things I hear about President Obama even though I don't live in the USA.

I am very keen on discussing abortion. I am pro-life and wouldn't ever have an abortion. I like to hear all points of view. I like to help people consider if they consider whether abortion is right or wrong. Sometimes there some really 'hot' discussions on it.

I have some friends on My Lot with opposite view points to me about abortion and that is fine. I wouldn't drop a friend if he or she had opposite view points to me. I like to hear different points of view.

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

That's great that you are open minded to hear different points of views. Many people are not that way. There probably isn't a final right or wrong "view" to any of these heated topics, but I'm sure whatever view one holds is what they consider the correct view. It's tough - but I think I will stay away from such discussions . . . I don't want to get high blood pressure from myLot! lol

myLot reputation of 98/100. maximax8 (10467)   ranked 508 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

Yes, you want to keep your blood pressure low. I know that each person thinks they have right idea. Of course each person has their own perception of what is right or wrong. I began a discussion that a few other members of My Lot made really 'hot'. For me it was just getting different points of view.

Yah i know what you fEel. I jump to the discussion, i dont want to read the topic. I dont want to involved in there quarelling fiGhting especially a topic involving religion.

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

Yes, religion can be a hot topic. I almost responded to one the other night and I know I would have offended many . . . although I felt a bit offended while reading the start off of the discussion. Reading is one thing . . . joining in on the quarreling is another.

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

You are funny! Good luck if you do jump into any of these hot discussions. I am not ready to take the heat on myLot. Watch out for those flames - some of them can come from unexpected sources!

myLot reputation of 95/100. Misterwit (1044)   ranked 159 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

First of all I like to thank you for the compliment, thumbup

i stay away from them. i don't want to be entangled in debates over controversial issues such as religion, culture, etc. nobody wins in those situations because each one roots to his own. this is one big battlefield here in mylot and i just want to enjoy and earn!

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

Yah, I just want to enjoy too! I don't want to get angry or be a stress ball over something on myLot! Nobody wins in these types of discussions, you're right. Oh but sometimes I have the urge to voice my opinions on these heated subjects . . . nah, I'll stay away from it here!

8. myLot reputation of 79/100. snam23 (833)   ranked 1,084 out of 1,109 in mylot   3 months ago

I try to stay out of controversial discussions on myLot. I read through some of them and sometimes respond, but like you, I do not want to get into a never-ending debate online. Also, because I cannot devote as much time as I would like to myLot, I would not be able to keep defending my point of view.

I would never drop a friend just because they have the opposite views from me. If we have other similarities like similar interests, then opposing views on other very controversial matters will not make a large difference.

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

I, too, read through some of these controversial discussions. I start to write and then I back out of it as I will spend too much time writing my case (and like you, I don't have a lot of time to spend on myLot as well). And even if I did, I'm sure there would be someone to knock my opinion down. I'll stay out such topics for now!

9. myLot reputation of 43/100. IMEzekieL (512)   3 months ago

No not really. But I think it depends on the situation. If I feel I have nothing to say then I wouldn't respond. But it doesn't mean I'm avoiding that discussion. I'm an open-minded person so I wouldn't mind indulging on controversial and debatable topics. It's just a matter of self-expression and sharing one's opinions.

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

Sometimes, I guess when one is trying to share their opinions, there are others to knock it down. I haven't jumped into controversial subjects to know what can happen to me personally, but I have read some where people get downright cruel - and I don't know if I like that. That's just life, but I have no need for it on myLot. Good luck when you do indulge in those topics!!

Hello,
I like to stay away from controversional coversations period, I feel like there i no benefit to get involved ina coversation that can, possibley lead to a aurgument etc, so with that being said I stay far way and this is just my opinion.

myLot reputation of 99/100. much2say (650)   ranked 4 out of 1,109 in mylot  3 months ago

Yes, me too! It isn't worth the aggravation, so I think I'll stay away from controversial conversations on myLot too. Who wants to have an argument here - like you said, there are no benefits.
