American Newspapers Going Down the Tubes |
|
I've a theory as to why American Newspapers are losing so much money. I'm not too sure if anyone will disagree with it for any sound reasons either:
American newspapers around the country are losing money fast because we, the citizens/readers/customers/consumers are tired of reading the liberal bias/pro-authority slant of the modern American newspaper.
A large percentage of us are business people in one capacity or another. Wen we, for example, read an article in the paper that almost celebrates a new fee or tax it just upsets us. Then when the newspaper edits our responses via a letter to the editor it just clarifies the paper's management's bias as for big government and liberal.
Screw 'em! If newspapers want to celebrate that which is crappy about life...let them fail!

1. cobrateacher (4229) | 3 months ago | The bias in my area is definitely conservative. They're losing money because they don't do a good job of covering the news. As a former professional journalist, I know journalism is SUPPOSED to be unbiased at all costs, but that's no longer the case.

2. spalladino (9040) | 3 months ago | I agree. There are some papers I won't read anymore because they're so slanted to either the right or the left. I think another problem with the newspaper industry is the internet. When I first moved to Florida I used to read the Washington Post online because that had been my newspaper for years and I missed it. If it weren't for the internet I would have had to subscribe to it from here.

3. Laurie1986 (285) | 3 months ago | The Washington Post is notoriously conservative as well.
I definitely see your point about bias, but I have to agree with spalladino that the primary reason for the demise of the newspaper--which may, ironically, not be quite as dramatic as has been portrayed in the media--has to do with the rise of the Internet. More and more people are using the web and social networking to access information, and this is, to some people's minds, increasing the problems of bias and a lack of focus on media responsibility and media accuracy.
I have a discussion on this if you want to check it out--it's in my profile and is called New Media v. Old Media.:)
I am very interested in this topic and I appreciate you bringing it up!

4. bird123 (1194) | 3 months ago | Can't any news source be BIAS??? There was a time when the only source of news was newspapers. Newspapers flourished. Then came television. Now we have the internet. We can even get news on phones. The older people who had nothing except the newspaper, are dying out. Isn't it easier with a few clicks of the mouse to get all the news one could ever want>>FREE??? I know I never buy newspapers. Of course, there are still free ones that come in the mail and on the doorstep. Newspapers are going down because no one wants to pay for something they can get free.

5. hotsummer (2750) | 3 months ago | i think newspapers only report as what they see happen in a country or events that happen. but of course that really turn people off from reading newspapers. as i don't buy newspapers often as i don't like picking up and reading a newspaper. it gets me so bored.

| nostate (46) | 3 months ago | Yeah. Like I'll buy that for a dollar. Right. Unbiased never existed. Once governments realized the power of media, they took our stolen tax dollars, and subsidized them.

7. sierras236 (495) | 3 months ago | They have rapidly lost all their creditability. They forgot that they were supposed to report the news. I credit this downfall to President Obama. The instant they picked a side, they were no longer journalists. It is sad to see a once proud industry stoop so low. Well, they are paying for their mistake. Oh yeah, the internet has played a role.
