how could anyone do this???? they should be... | | This was on my email this morning. A 19 year old duct taped a cat from neck to tail and put it in a shopping bag in his neighbor's yard. He was arrested but he ONLY faces a $1000 fine and two years in prison/jail. If it's anything like our neighbor, he might max out at 89 days, the rest dismissed for good behavior.
I realize that not everyone likes animals but what in the name of God gives them the feeling that they have the frickin right to harm an animal that was just crossing their yard?
For the story, go to this address. This is NOT a link. http://www.mail.com/Artic... am so tired of lame punishments for people that feel it is alright to abuse animals. My "brother" (I don't like to even claim him as a family member---he made Hannibal Lecter look like a rank amateur!) was a SERIOUS animal abuser, and he got away with it because people chose to turn their heads. This guy should get stripped naked, and duct taped and hung by the short hair in the most traveled part of the city with a sign that people should watch out for the jerk, he's a serious animal abuser!!!! Somehow people get the idea that animals are "throw away" entities. That they can take them into the country and dump them, that the people that live there will take care of them or that the animal can "iive off the land". That is a HUGE LOAD OF HORSE $HIT!!!! Dogs and cats cannot survive on what they are able to catch. Not only that but 9 times out of 10 the animal starves to death, is attacked by wild animals, is hit by a vehicle, or contracts rabies and is destined to a pain wracked death. What gives people the idea that something like duct taping a cat is cute, funny or acceptable???? Why aren't we teaching our people better? I would love to get my hands on this idiot...he would be duct taped for a LOOOONNNNNGGGG time. We need to start standing up more for the animals!

Loverbear (1644) | 2 months ago | What makes it sicker is that we, as humans, have taught the animals that we have domesticated to trust humans. And the same humans that the animals are to trust are the ones that hurt them horribly. It isn't like cats are useless members of the world. They keep the rodents under control, and thus it keeps the possibly of infections under control. So, here we are with companions and life savers being treated like trash. We do really need to look at how we deal with animal abusers. I would make sure that the guy would be duct taped before we hung him from his short hair.

Unfortuntely ever state has different laws when it comes to aniaml abuse. Some states don't seem to have any either and it appauling! then there are states that have excellent animal laws! people who are animal abusers usually end up abusing humans too! Anyway people abuse animals for lots of reasons. I know people do it because they don't like animals. They can abandon their animals and someone will come along to take care of them! They think that animals don't have feelings. People are stupid and naive and that couses alot of animal abuse! People think it is funny. Poeple do it because they have no respect for animals and nothing else! Some people abuse animlas because they see other people do it and think it is no big deal! What ever type of abuse it should be treated the same and the same in all states! I love to see the law hang all abuses from their legs naked and duct taped from a bridge or a building for all the world to see! Maybe with being so embarressed they wouldn't hame an animal again! Something really needs to be done!

Loverbear (1644) | 2 months ago | You sound so much like me!!! The only thing I can add is that it is sheer human arrogance that makes some people think animals are stupid. If you go to Germany, would they think that you're stupid because you don't speak their language? Animals have so often saved humans, on many different levels, and yet there are people that are still abusive? That makes a lot of sense.
I will add only one thing, and that is that we also duct tape their private parts with really good gooey stickey duct tape so that when we RIP it off they really feel the pain.

What about the people who get away with far worse crimes with probation or 30 days in jail? Don't get me wrong, I love animals and for someone to do such things is crazy. But, what do you think this person should get as punishment?

Loverbear (1644) | 2 months ago | Hummm, when you stop to consider that a LOT of human abuse has been proven to come from people that feel it's okay to abuse animals. We, as humans, don't seem to be teaching their children how to treat their fellow humans let alone their pets. My brother loved to torture our cats, and he would constantly beat the holy hell out of me. I had bruises up and down my body from his beatings. Unfortunately when I was growing up I was not a violent person, otherwise he would have gotten better than he got. He would aim REAL guns at me and pull the trigger, I never knew if the gun was loaded or empty. He threw knives at me narrowly missing me by fraction of inches. I vividly remember when I refused to go with him to rob my best friends house he picked up a shovel and hit me in the head with it. He STILL abuses animals and humans. I honestly think that humans who abuse animals should receive the same treatment that they gave the animal. How do you think it would feel to have all that sticky stuff on your hairy body? I wouldn't sedate the guy after I finished exhibiting him to the city, I would pull the stuff off sssllllowwwwwlllly so he knows how it feels to not only not be able to move, get food or liquid, and have been wrestled around to be taped in the first place. I wonder how this a--hole treats his girl friend...

| arrwyn (37) | 2 months ago | My comment is for Loverbear ... there is no statute of limitation on abuse. You can have your so called brother arrested NOW for what he did to you as a child. IF he is still being abusive, you'd be doing the world a favor to get him locked up. What is his mental damage anyway? That's the only thing I can think of is wrong with people who are so abusive whether it is animals or humans.
As for the news article they did not say how but as a professional pet groomer I can guess how they got the duct take off the cat, and the cat was less traumatized by the removal. Most likely what they did was use blunt pointed scissors to cut the tape oven then shaved THE TAPE off the cat which would leave most of her fur intact and not pull much of it. Pet clippers have blades that can make a cat completely bald but if they used the blade against the TAPE and not her body she would be left with most of her fur. Besides, they might have sedated the cat during the removal process or being that they were letting her skin breathe and removing the restrictions on her movements, the cat probably cooperated by being as still as possible even if the sound of the clippers frightened her.
I was happy to read that the cat was not afraid of all humans because of her ordeal. It won't take long to get her adopted, she looks like a very sweet cat.

Loverbear (1644) | 2 months ago | I didn't know that there was no statue of limitations on abuse. Unfortunately I don't have irrefutable proof as I was never taken to the hospital for treatment. I look back at my childhood and remember being burned with lighter fluid and matches, hot butter knives (he would heat those on the stove and come back to me- I was tied down-) and burn my fingers with the hot knives. There is so much more that I have surpressed. I assure you that if that little ba$tard ever crosses my path again there won't be enough left of him to wipe up with a paper towel. He is the only one that I have ever wanted to kill...but with all the hatred from all the abuse, he will be extremely smart to never come around me again.
Thank you so much for the information. I had no idea about the legalities and appreciate the information to pass on to others that might be in this situation.

Meanwhile, so many people who are caught for relatively small crimes, like shoplifting, often get years in prison and end up a worse criminal than they were before. I think it's time to stop making prisons into money making schemes, and start revising the punishment laws in America.

Loverbear (1644) | 2 months ago | It reminds me of the song "Beer for my Horses!" Anyone who has heard it ever wonder why it became such a hit??? It seems like it's time for the laws to be revamped and the punishment be made to fit the crime! Prisons in California had become as bad as "Club Fed". They were bringing in big name entertainers like Johnny Cash, etc. There was "hobby and craft" areas where the prisoners could do any kind of art or craft that they wanted, they had medical, dental and optical, they even got to the point that they could even have their own television in their room. Many of the cons were able to complete a college education at the taxpayers expense, many earning a PhD! While the rest of us working saps had to work to get through college! Oh, and they had their own baseball teams and would travel to other prisons for games (also this included football and basketball). I know first hand because not only did I visit the prison near my home when I was in high school, but my father worked there for 12 years! We attended the annual art and craft show where we could buy art pieces. One man became world famous for his paintings...they would sell for tens of thousands of dollars! He was in prison for murdering his wife.
I totally agree about revising the punishment laws in America!

Animals are so helpless, they cant defend themselves from abusers with no brains like that kid. If you dont like animals turn the other way, but just for that it doesnt deserve human´s abuse or the blow off of steam from a bad day... give me a break!, if this was done to a baby that guy would have died in prison.
I do believe in protecting the innocent more than punishing the guilty, but that story got my eyesockets out almost. What a jerk.. Ill stop writting otherwise Ill end up ·&%·%$·"$&$%·$Q!!!!!!! all over the place.

Loverbear (1644) | 2 months ago | You are right in your thinking. I feel the same way, we take on "pets" (I prefer to refer to them as furry buddies) and have responsibilities to them. Yes, they were originally wild, but through the centuries we tamed them and welcomed them into our homes. When we did that, we assumed as much responsibility as if they were our children. My furry buddies get their food purchased first, then I worry about me. My buddies take as good of care as I take of them. In fact from the moment I get up in the morning to after I go to bed Willy (one of the flame point Siamese I adopted two years ago) is with me. If I don't feel good you can't get him away from me. When I go to bed he curls up at my side with his head on my ribs until I roll over to go to sleep, then he will get up and check out the house and a few hours later he will return to bed and sleep at the foot of the bed, facing me to make sure that I am always okay.
As I said in a previous response, people that abuse animals are human abusers. Whether it is child abuse, abusing a girl friend or wife or elder abuse, they are friggin abusers!!! Psychologists have linked abusing humans to an early life of abusing animals. Come to think of it, after they duct tape the jerk I would slowly strip the tape off him, paint him screaming pink, coat him with honey and stake him on a red ant hill! (Hey, if you get the feeling that you don't want to get me pissed, you're right! I'd make a horrible prison guard as I would dish out some strange horrible punishments!!!! )

indybaty (249) | 2 months ago | Well deserved as I said before. You have quite the family! Very lucky to have you indeed. :( Im sorry. This gets close to my heart. Crystal Kitty was my pet. Remembering her brings tears to my eyes Im sorry... its ummm amazing the length of how destruction runs threw, and they are so innocent... no clue of what is happening or what would happen to them. My poor baby was sent to the vet to have her exterminated. You know why? because my aunt had moved in with my family at the house and she hated cats. Till this day I dont speak with my aunt.
I was 7.

Loverbear (1644) | 2 months ago | You are so much like me. I wouldn't speak a civil word to my dad after he ran over my cat and then had the guts to tell me that it was "only a cat, we'll get you another one". I was in hysterics! That cat was my best buddy from the day I got him, and he was so much like a dog and would walk beside me in "heel" position. He was with me through my divorce and was so soggy from all the tears.
To this day, I have no use for the sperm donor that brought me into this world. He too was an animal abuser, but not one that was so horrible. When he was in the hospital dying, I wouldn't go near him as he was as abusive to my mom and me as he was to our animals.
I cry for your pain. I just hope that the vet didn't put the cat to sleep. Murphy, Willy, Khuay, Dinglebeary, Abby, Monica, Little Bit, Katie, Ralphie, Indy, Jonesy, and Angel send their love.

Those are just my thoughts.
But on the other hand cruelty to animals will lead to much more violence in the future, it's just right to punish them for the act. But shouldn't we also look much on the cases of people who hurt other? I think they need much more attention compared to animals.

Loverbear (1644) | 2 months ago | You're right in both respects. Psychologists have linked animal abusers to becoming human abusers. Like I said in the first post, my brother was a horrible animal abuser and that led, unchecked, to his being a human abuser, to being a murderer! Interesting chain isn't it?
I too am concerned with the care that we need to give people who need help, and I do as much as I can for them too, is there any reason you can see why we can't do both? I am on a very limited budget but manage to help those who are hungry, cold and homeless. But too, we can get into the enormous salaries that entertainers and athletes command--plus the money spent on wars, huge homes, the Rose Parade, paying CEO's huge bonuses at the end of the year, and more- if only 15% of those monies (more when it comes to CEO's getting 60 million dollar bonuses- I'd take the whole bonus!! They get enough money and perks!!!!) were funneled into helping others in need wouldn't this be a much better place to live? I watched with fascination the change in values from the 1930's to present. We went to being happy with what we had to having to have it ALL, NOW. I remember growing up the "BUY NOW, PAY LATER" ads on the U.S. Television. If you didn't have a huge house and car and all the up-to-date clothing you were nothing. Now a family of four needs a 5,000+ square foot home with a swimming pool, tennis courts and who knows what else. What about simple living so that we were able to live within our means and we weren't one pay check from being on the street? If we could cut back a lot on our "wants" and cover our needs we sure could get a lot of people back on their feet!!!
OOPS, Sorry I am getting into rant/lecture mode. I look at the world and how things are going and realize we need some rethinking and reorganizing!

dhugoi (211) | 2 months ago | It's alright, I feel the same way you do, those kind of people are becoming more in the political arena, specially in some country. They pretending to be a good public servant but on the darker side, they really work for the percentage in any public works coming from the contractor of the said projects.
It's really sad to know that the people who are willing and a heart to help others are those with limited capacity or resources to do it. There are few rich people who are willing to give to others but in reality it's only a small percentage of their huge income.
But back to the topic, It's really a sad part that the cruelty to animals will lead to hurting human if not cease at the earlier stage.

| | | | | 10. Atlantabean (10) | 2 months ago | I fully agree with you too. My heart breaks everytime I hear a story like this! I wish we all could do much more in defense of these poor mistreated animals than we are already capable of. I hope he does a maximum fine, and maximum time in prison. This is the only form of justice I can think of, since I wasn't there to stop him from doing the crime in the first place. This is one of the worst crimes out there. It should be treated just as harshly as murder in the courts. I do love to support my local SPCA and animal shelters as much as possible. I have 5 cats and 1 dog. All were rescued from certain forms of doom, and I love them dearly.
