What do you think of having uniforms in public schools? |
|
I think everyone should be able to wear what they want to school. They should not make everyone wear the same thing. Noone wants to look the same everyday. That would get so boring. I would hate it. I like having the option of being different and making a fashion statment. Not everyone is the same and everyone has a different personality. Having uniforms takes away from being who you are and it makes you lool like someone your not. I do not agree with uniforms in public schools.

2. Thebraggingman (216) | 2 months ago | I think it is a better idea than having just normal clothes. A uniform rules out the steriotyping of the kids coming from a lower socio economic area. I went to a decile three school (a decile is rated by the people who live around the school). I was a better student, in the top class doing year ahead subjects so I was one of the better off students. On the mufti day (bring your own clothes day) we had, drug dealers came into the school (unnoticed by teachers and school kids) and the poorer kids were teased by the richer kids who had name brand nice clothes. So in my opinion a uniform is better to rule out the economic side of clothing.

3. spalladino (8867) | 2 months ago | My youngest daughter's high school didn't require students to wear uniforms but they had a strict dress code, especially in the area of what kind of shirts the students were allowed to wear. I had no problem with this, although my daughter didn't like it very much. It saved me money...especially when she was in her gothic skater punk stage and only wanted to wear clothes from a couple of really cool (and pretty expensive) shops at the mall. School should not be about who is wearing what and who's clothes are more expensive...it should be about learning. There is plenty of time to make a fashion statement after school and on the weekends.

| 5. fitforlife (82) | 2 months ago | I think uniforms should be worn in the elementary and junior high kids. When there are uniforms, most of the time kids are seen equally and you can't differentiate if there are from a poor family vs midde class or rich family. I think high school kids should be given a dress code, such as no low cut shirts, no short short shorts, nothing to show off a certain part of their body.

6. marguicha (3464) | 2 months ago | In my country the boys and girls wear uniforms to school by law. The idea is that there are no evident diferences in wealth among the students. At least, that´s how it began. Now, with all the expensive toys and gadgets that young people have, it doesn´t serve it´s purpose.

Archie0 (3135) | 2 months ago | Uniforms are an excellent conditioning tool.
These young minds will better accept that they are the property of the State, and owe full allegiance to their governmental masters.
Physical individuality promotes mental individuality. Obviously, that is not good for the longevity of the State.
Free-thinkers are dangerous to the State.

dreamr802 (754) | 2 months ago | I don't think free-thinkers are a danger to the state. Free-thinkers will try to keep the government in check and I think someone who has their own mind is great and they aren't molded into one thing, that is completely unrealistic.

8. dreamr802 (754) | 2 months ago | I completely agree with you, I do not agree with having uniforms. I think that if a school forces uniforms then it takes away all individuality of the students...granted people won't be obsessing about who has the latest clothes and whatnot, but I think that's the fun part, and when I was in high school I was huge on accessorizing everything.

9. UltimateAsoka (890) | 2 months ago | Well, even i thought so while i was in school.I was wearing uniform for all my 18 years of academic life. But then, i realised that it was unifrom that bought all of us to common platform of being a student. We had no disparities or differences becuase we were all same with uniform, no distinction between the rich and poor, or the elegant and ugly.We did the opportunity to express ourselves outside the school, but inside we were all same. Thanks!

10. raphael_volts (924) | 2 months ago | Though I feel the same way as you do. Getting to wear whatever one wants to school helps show what they really are. But still I would say, that uniforms are good, at least till you join you college. As till school, we all just depend on our parents ability to pay for us and hence to put it straight, there may not be every one who could afford good clothes like some can and that brings inequality. Since school is not a place of fashion but a place of learning and building comradeship, so schools should have uniforms, at least all the public schools should.
Take Care
