I am glad to hear it!
I hope more states get on the bandwagon with that one I can run out of fingers and toes if I try and count how many times I have almost been in an accident because someone was texting while driving swerving in and out of lanes, running redlights this one woman ran a red light just this morning when I was on my way to work she ran straight through it before that she was weaving in and out of the lanes
I really get annoyed when I see the kids doing it especially ones who just got their license! Its bad enough the drinking and driving , and it not like you can't see them doing it when you ride beside someone on the highway you can see them going in and out looking up and down up and down and sometimes I even see the phone their texting on it just puts me off
Glad to see something finally being done in some states in the USA how about your state do they have the ban or plan to get it?

Hi Cherryd41,
Sms messaging if you are caught by the Police here in Spain regardless of whether you are a Tourist or not and you don´t speak the lingo carries a very heavy fine.
If you don´t pay the fine there is a Jail Sentence to go with the package.
Not that it stops anyone here from doing it either. Have seen this going on too and the mobile phone being stuck in their ear and they are quite happy to have their conversations with the cars doing zigzags all over the place.
This is no joke there are more Spanish Traffic Police all over the place about every thirty or fourty kilometres and the rule applies to all so you will not be let off for being from somewhere else.
So if you are wise and do not want to fund some others pocket keep all your documents of your car up to date your passport everything because they are out to fine you for anything that occurs to them.
We have a Hyundai Coupe and they make a bee line for our Car we get stopped no less than once a week maybe we should change our Car lol.
Cherry I hope I don´t sound harsh what I´ve written about it´s because this is happening every day now here in Spain and apart from the information I have given about the mobile phones the other information is for unsuspecting People who visit here and may have forgotten something we are all human but not according to the others lol.
Way to identify these People dressed in red and grey and with a beret with a badge on it and they signal you down like they are trying to bring in a Boeing 707 lol.
Take care now.

Hi Lovinangelsinstead21
No you don't sound harsh at all your telling it like it is and theres nothing wrong with that!
I didn't realize things were that strict in Spain but your right about the zig zagging back and forth I lost count on how many times someone has merged over in my lane not paying attention because there on the phone or texting evidently they care far more about yapping back and forth then getting to their destination safely.....Go Figure!!

Hiya Cherry,
Yep that´s the way it is now here it´s really all about not giving them the pleasure of you having to give "your hard earned money" to them.
With Spain having so many visitors these guys are going to be loaded in a Day what am I talking about a Day in an hour?
I felt I had to share this with anyone who comes here and is not upto date with all this that has just started.
By the way be careful with jumping the Traffic lights in Red too because now the Traffic Lights are going to have Radars anyone who jumps it even by accident is fined.
Spain has taken this to the extreme they either go to one side or the other never in the middle. In a way I would agree with their methods but one can see that they are after "other things".
Soapbox session finished lol.
We are taking this with a sense of humour too you have to otherwise you would never get into your Car again.
Be careful of muttering under your breath if they stop you too because a lot of them now understand English having said that have a great Holiday if you come here much better to get someone else to take you in their car lol.
Take care now.

I agree with the ban, as it is just crazy to text and drive at the same time. How in the world people think that they can drive and text, is something I will never figure out. I would never do it, as I wouldn't be able to watch the road and the cell phone at the same time. I don't even like to talk on it while driving, but that is easier, because I do keep my eyes on the road while I am talking. As of the first of next year, here in Oregon, we won't be able to drive and talk on the cell phone, and I am all for that. I do take my cell phone with me while I am gone from home, but I only talke when I am parked somewhere. People do need to realize that cell phones are a big disttraction, and by making laws like they are, it will deter everyone from talking and driveing or texting and driveing. Have a very good day, and happy mylotting.

Hi Rosekiss
I take my cell phone with me where ever I go to but I put my phone on speaker so I can still have my hands free and glad to see that Oregon is getting on board with this issue its sure to cut down on the number of accidents especially with teens because they do it a lot!

Good for them! I am so scared when I see other drivers and all the crazy things they do behind the wheel. Texting, reading the newspaper, eating. I wish people would focus on driving. I wonder how many accidents have happened because of texting. Do you have any idea? I bet there are many.

Hi jodylee,
Certainly no way to go and do things. Here a trend now is instead of learning to drive with a driving School people take the instruction Book and are reading the instructions and practising driving at the same time. Recorded on Video by the General Direction of Traffic in Spain. Driving Schools work has gone down by seventy five percent with this foolish practice by those silly people who do those kind of things.
Well if they get caught they are not allowed to learn to drive for a certain amount of years and a hefty big fine to go with it and about time too.
Another stunt was by someone trying to do Superman on by hanging on to the side of the Car and the other filming he while he was driving.
