Anybody ever have any luck with Etsy?

I have been on Etsy for almost 3 years now (username is kjscrafts over there). I have found it to work out quite well for me. I love that the price is only $0.20 for four months. So much cheaper than eBay, especially since there is no monthly shop fee like eBay has if you go the non auction route. I do craft shows and have my own site, but for the most part the only place I come out ahead is Etsy. I do sell more at the shows, but the related booth fees usually eat up my profit. My own site will probably be a profit this year, but before June it was not because I was paying a ridiculous amount a year to have shopping cart software from godaddy, but now I use a free shopping cart. Problem is that my own domain does not get much traffic while Etsy is a place people find you and you do not have to do as much promotion.

I am not on Etsy, but my sister has a store there. She is Hocus Focus. When she first started selling her crafts there, it was a little slow, but she has been on there now for awhile, and this year is going very well for her. She also does craft shows.

There are lots of great things about Etsy. First is the community of crafters. A lot of folks go looking for one person or one thing, then wander around and end up finding others they like. It has also gotten a lot of publicity and traffic. Finally, you can put up a range of crafts in one store. With doing craft shows, you need to have a lot of merchandise, but on Etsy, you can change, try out new things, make customized merchandise...lots of flexibility.

My sister has gotten some good business from there. The one thing I would say is that you need to have a fair amount of merchandise to attract people, and you need to keep updating your store (not let things get static for too long). Good luck with your crafting!

I've only sold one thing, but I have to admit that i never really tried to promote myself nor to find a niche. I really need to work on it if I am going to do it.

i have sold some stuff on etsy but i havent sold anything lately. i love looking on etsy because i can get some good ideas and especially now, i can buy some christmas stuff. i am hoping to post some stuff on etsy next week.

I have been selling on Etsy for more than two years. I love the site! They have a built-in following that loves buying handmade items. It's a great site to have a 24/7 online presence, especially when you do shows. So many people are thrilled to buy from vendors that they can easily find again in the future. Promoting both my shop and my shows has been made easier by Etsy and I'm now on Twitter, Facebook and I promote a little bit each day on Etsy and on some other sites directly off my Etsy site.

I have a shop (puckandpenelope.etsy.com) that does pretty well. The more time I spent listing, making, and promoting the more money I make. It's a lot of fun too.
My friend does pretty regular business on there, at least 8 orders a week, but she ran a successful eBay shop for 6 years, and she knows her stuff. The more you see it as a business, and devote the time and energy into it like you would if it was a brick and mortar store, the more it will become a real business.

I just opened my etsy shop about a month ago (CoopsCraftyCorner.etsy.com). I have had only one sale so far on the site, but have sold some things off the site as well. So far I really like it, and like that the listing fee is only .20 per item. I really hope to do more business soon, especially with the holidays coming up. I have been working hard to try to get as many items on there as possible for sale. From what I have heard, the more you list, and the more often you list, the more you get views, and the more you get sales. I hope that it works out great for the both of us! Best of luck to you!
