Oral Hygiene |
|
Everyone or almost everyone brushes teeth at least twice a day. Once in the morning after waking up and once at night just before bed. Some, however brushes teeth after every meal. Anyway, it is a good practice to brush teeth at least twice a day to maintain oral hygiene. I scrap my tongue twice a day, after my morning brushing of teeth and one at night after brushing my teeth. Some people do not use the thin long stainless scrapper to scrap. Instead they use the same toothbrush to brush their tongues. What about you. Please share.

1. Iriene88 (1179) | 3 months ago | Wow James,
You practice a very good oral hygiene. Brush teetch twice a day is definitely a very good habit to observed. Moreover, you even scrap your tongue. I heard tongue can harbour bacteria too.
Nowadays, many toothbrushes are quite innovative with a tongue scrapper (spiky surface) at the back of the toothbrush for scrapping the tongue.
I too brushes my teetch twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. I do brush my teetch again before I go out.

JamesKYTan (529) | 3 months ago | Yes, you heard it correctly, tongue can harbour bacteria and cause foul breath. Brushing of tongue using either the bristles or the spiky surface at the back of toothbrush is not effective. It requires at least a stainless scrapper to scrap off the thick coating that accumulate on the tongue surface.

2. kykidd (4623) | 3 months ago | I use a dental rinse in the morning before brushing my teeth. This is supposed to help loosen the plaque. Then I brush my teeth. After brushing my teeth, I usually just use my toothbrush to brush my tongue. I have had the scrapers before, but really never got into the habit of using a separate tool.
I hardly floss my teeth often enough, but I guess it hasn't caused me too much trouble. I usually only floss them once a week or so.
Sometimes, I do brush my teeth throughout the day. If I have a bad taste in my mouth after lunch or a snack I will brush my teeth. And then I usually brush them again at night.
I also have a tool that I will use to clean my teeth from time to time. It looks like a pocket knife, and instead of blades it has different dental tools for scraping. This was a stocking stuffer type gift that I received from my mom, and it really does seem to come in handy.

JamesKYTan (529) | 3 months ago | For tongue cleaning I still prefer the stainless scrapper. I find that it can do a better job. I don't use a dental floss as a toothpick is sufficient.

3. shia88 (825) | 3 months ago | Hi James,
An interesting topic to share here. I brush my teeth at least twice a day.If I am having a seafood for my meal, then I will brush my teeth after my meal,so that my mouth won't have a bad smell.
But one thing is that I never scrap my tougue.I never did it in my whole life. Is it necessary to scrap our tongue???

JamesKYTan (529) | 3 months ago | O yes, for hygiene reasons.Bacteria may stay and dwell on the microscopic surface of our tongue. These bacteria live on the food debris that lodged on these microscopic depression of our tongue causing bad breath. Using of mouthwash is not effective. Scrapping of tongue using a stainless scrapper is good. Trying using it and you can see the thick coating being scrape off.

4. Binthu (3290) | 3 months ago | Hi James,
You are absolutely right, we have to brush at least twice in a day in the morning as well as in the night, most of the peoples would love to use the mouthwash too in order to maintain the oral hygiene perfectly. Whenever we have to choose the toothpaste, it must be very important right and good one and must contains anti bacterial activity in the formula of the toothpaste, because the antibacterial effects will kills all the germs in the mouth as well as in the teeth. That is the main reasons most of the Dentist would advise us to use medicated or well branded toothpaste to have the entire benefits of the brushing.
As you have said that about " scrap the tongue " also considered as a best method to keep the oral hygiene well in conditions, so we must use the proper stainless scrapper in order to get the proper cleaning of the tongue. Most of the times the Dentist also recommend us to use the Antibacterial Mouthwash in order to keep the mouth and teeth free from the microbes as well as from bad odor.
Have a nice day.

JamesKYTan (529) | 3 months ago | Choosing a good toothpaste is simple. Good brand is either Sensodyne or Oral B. Especially Sensodyne Original, it helps build a protective barrier against the pain of sensitive teeth by blocking the channels to the nerves which transmit the pain. Some may not like its medicinal taste. Then you can opt for Sensodyne Gum Care or other series.

5. vopols (150) | 3 months ago | Yup I also brush my teeth but 2 times a day and brushes my tongue before sleeping my toothbrush already had a tongue cleaner so whenever I brush my teeth it is considered that I'm gonna brush my tongue. Oral hygiene is very important is our daily activities especially if we talk about having a conversation everyday.

JamesKYTan (529) | 3 months ago | Just brushing of teeth twice a day or after every meal is not enough. We need to scrap or brush our tongue also. Scrapping of tongue is better than brushing or using mouthwash. You need to try it to believe it. In the morning when you awake get a stainless scrapper and scrap your tongue, you see the thick coating being scrapped off. Yuck!

6. Kowgirl (2458) | 3 months ago | Two to three times a day with a medium toothbrush. I used a "hard" toothbrush and brushed four to five times a day for years and it took off some of the enamel. Too hard a brush and too much brushing is not good for your teeth. Found that out the hard way.I use a toothbrush with raised bumps on the back for the tongue, it works great but it makes me gag. Rinse with a mouthwash before brushing helps to loosen up some bacteria and particles. Clean teeth and body hygiene are a must.

JamesKYTan (529) | 3 months ago | Yup, previously I used a toothbrush with hard bristles, it pulled down my gums. The dentist advised me to switch to soft type. Now I find that it is good and I stick to soft then.

meluan (912) | 3 months ago | did you know that you must brush teeth at least one hour after meal .

|
|
JamesKYTan (529) | 3 months ago | In spite of all the advantages of brushing after every meal I still prefer one in the morning and one at night. It is more practical. We can't be bringing our toothbrush and toothpaste to our office or to the restaurant. Is "colluttorio' a mouthwash? You mean have to wait for one hour after our meal to brush our teeth?

9. ample03 (231) | 3 months ago | Hello JamesKYTan, I brush my teeth twice a day normally, in the morning and at night. I think it is enough two brush twice and I always scrap tongue. When I have tea or meal I use water to clean inside my mouth so that it does not smell. I have heard that too much brushing with hard bristle brushes is not good for teeth, is it right?

JamesKYTan (529) | 3 months ago | Hello ample, I think most of us brush twice a day, in the morning and at night. There are other who brushes after every meal.If I have my lunch, I just gurgle and rinse my mouth. I used hard bristle-toothbrush before until my dentist advised me to switch to soft as the hard type harm my gum.

10. happy6162 (2463) | 3 months ago | I do brush my teeth after eating but I have never brush my tongue. I usually after brushing my teeth gargle with mouthwash to clean my mouth. I do not know of anyone who has scaped or brush thir tongue.
| |
| |
|
|
JamesKYTan (529) | 3 months ago | O yes, brushing or scrapping of tongue is also good oral hygiene. After eating, food debris my get lodged in the microscopic 'depression' of our tongue. Bacteria may then have a feast and as a result cause foul or bad breath.
