Are you able to spend more for christmas? |

Are you able to spend more for christmas this year then you were last year? Or is the vice versa, could you afford more last year, but not so much this year! I am planning on balancing a lot of things to get some money on here, I hope to get a job too, I just need to get everything done related to marriage life. I've got to get down and do the whole switcharoo of name for the us government's sake... and my sanity! lol!
Well Please do chat away about this: How many gifts have you gotten?

SomeCowgirl (8053) | 3 months ago | There's always things that seem to come up, so when you can it's best to keep to a budget for all matters, even christmas! I like to try to get the best for people, but I can't really talk from a budget standpoint, I've not budgeted, not had enough to make a budget!
Good Luck To You!

SomeCowgirl (8053) | 3 months ago | I haven't really been big on buying people gifts for holiday's. Now that My husband and I Are together, we are going to try to buy gifts for those who have done things to help us first, and then for others last if we can. Since we're just starting out, we'll know people will understand, and may even insist that we don't get them anything at all, or that we shouldn't have... but we will give gifts to his parents definitely, who have helped us out so much!
For the past two years I haven't had a job, so mylotting has been what I've done to make money. My husband has a job, and now it's my turn to look hard and long for one!
Good Luck On gifting, and I hope you can get and give many gifts this year!

cynthiann (3049) | 3 months ago | I remeer seeing somewhere on line that you can print free gift tags. I did this last year. Every little saving helps. My biggest tip is to buy a turkey for Thanksgiving and get the butcher to cut it in half. Use one half for thanksgiving and save the othe half for Christmas. Try and buy the biggst you can for as cheap as you can. Pick up one can of something for Christmas each week that you will need for Christmas dinner or for a gift. Don't worry. Of course people will understand.

4. lotterylover (4765) | 3 months ago | Have to get birthdays out of the way before I can think about Christmas but I have the same income this year as last so I can still give the same amount for Christmas presents as last year. That is not the hard part. IT is trying to decide what to get. Usually, I just ask what they want and if they give me more than one thing to get they can still be surprised at what they get. If I ask my wife far enough ahead she will forget what it was she asked for unless it is really something she needs. This year she wants a better T.V. with the digital already installed. She would also like a bigger house. I would like a truck but we both have our ideas of what kind of truck we need. Since what we have is already paid for and doesn't break down every day we will probably just keep what we have. Will probably keep the house we have as it is almost paid for and moving is a hard thing to do.

SomeCowgirl (8053) | 3 months ago | I am glad you have the same amount of income as last year, means you kept your job when so many lost their's! That's great! . Ever since I moved in with my husband and his parents we've been making a list (my husband and I) of things we want, most of the time we are with his mother when she buys us one of the things, and then the rest of the time she's by herself! I think it's great to have a list made, so we'll probably be doing this for years to come! Having an idea of a few things DOES make it more surprising! Lol! I've already got my christmas gift for this year, it was a wii! yay!
Oh and gifts that are more expensive, seem to quickly become priorities over wants. My husband and I want to get a home that we'll never want to move out of, one we can do work on, or add things to to make it look and feel different... As for a truck, well cars seem to break down and need repair, faster then homes... so we'll want to get a good truck and good car!
Good Luck Christmas Shopping!

5. JenInTN (3583) | 3 months ago | I think it will be about the same for me. I have the two girls to buy for plus my b/f plus probably his family. They always get us stuff and it would make me feel terrible not to get them anything. I'm going to go ahead and start buying a little here an there that way I can be ready. Last year I run around like a nut trying to finish up.

SomeCowgirl (8053) | 3 months ago | Can you believe how fast this year went by? I know what you mean about getting things but not giving, I feel bad when that happens too. This year we just got married, but we're still going to have enough to buy gifts for a few people. We know we'll be spending more then we did last year. My husband has a job, and I hope to get one soon! Oh and as for buying, yes, I like to be leisure and not have to rush at the last minute, makes it more stressful, and I'm already a stressaholic.

6. highflyingxangel (8940) | 3 months ago | I actually can spend a lot more than year then I could last year. Last year I was still a college student and my only sources of income were online earnings as well as a small tutoring gig on the side that paid me about $20 a week for two hours of work. It's not like I was getting rich or anything but I wasn't so poor either. I just had to be really, really wise about how I spent my money.
This year, I'm actually employed at a full time job where I make an OK living on. I'm definitely not poor and I'm not rolling in the dough either I'm just trying to save as much as I can. I like knowing that I have all of this extra money on hand. I don't want to go out and completely blow my paychecks on stuff I just do not need at the moment. I take any measures I can to make sure that I'm saving as much money as I can when I make my purchases.
So this year, I will be able to buy more but it's not like I'm planning to buy outrageous gifts this year. I plan to make maybe one or two high priced purchases but nothing else. I'm not planning on spending more than a few hundred on gifts even though I know I won't be spending that much to begin with.

SomeCowgirl (8053) | 3 months ago | It sounds like you have a good grasp on your money and what you feel you should or shouldn't spend. That is good, that means your a wise shopper, lol and wise with your money. A few 100 sounds like a realistic plan, and that it being the most you'll spend is good too.
Here's to hoping you'll surprise yourself by how litlte you spend but how much you buy for loved ones!

7. cynthiann (3049) | 3 months ago | I will have less money this year than last but it is ok. I will make ends meet and it will be good. I have enough money already saved for Christmas dinner,. I save coins all year and change them out before Christmas. I always have enough to buy turkey, ham etc . I also buy little gifts throughout the year. Last year my kids and I decided to buy just little gifts for each other and spend more on the children. This we did. H==If you have love then you have everything for Christmas. Remember that the reality is that Christ did not just appear in a nice warm stable. He was born into the filth and muck of animals in that stable and in the world. Dirt was all around him but He was born so that we can have eternal life. If we have love then we have everything.

SomeCowgirl (8053) | 3 months ago | I like the way you save! Coins in a jar all year to be changed out for Christmas Dinner. That's really all we need, food and companionship, love and joy. Yes, Christmas is becomign to materialistic and less and less people are getting together for the holidays just because they can't buy gifts, etc... It's more then just that. Christ was born in a stable for us, and died for us.

cynthiann (3049) | 3 months ago | It certainly is the best gift of all! Our first Christmas my husband and I weer broke as he had returned to JA for his father;s funeral and we did not have much Money for Christmas. We bought each other a cheap Santa stocking and filled it with little small gifts of something to make each other laugh ((I gave him a plastic toy duck for when he bathed) stuff like that. We had a great time together. Each gift was individually wrapped so it took ages to get the wrapping paper off.
The saving of he coins is something that I have adioen for so many years and it helps a great deal with expenses as I like to have all my children together at Christmas if they are on the Island and close friends too.

8. JennyMarie (224) | 3 months ago | Last year was a bad year for me I was hardly able to buy anyone gifts because of the financial situation I was in. This year I am not much better off financial, but it will be a better Christmas since I have been saving and buying gifts all year.
I decided after Christmas last year I wasn't going to let that happen again and the only way to do it was to begin planning and saving at that time

SomeCowgirl (8053) | 3 months ago | I think my family has always started to buy gifts before the chirstmas season began, and even after christmas. With the financial situation the way it is, it's almost a must. I am glad you were able to buy gifts all this year, so you'll be ready for Christmas in a few months. Hope you have a merry christmas.

10. mesuaky (252) | 3 months ago | i don't really spent too much on gifts every chirstmas, cause what i do is that i always prepare a list first, a gift list, i seperate all those people whom i should give gifts in categories, close family, distant relatives, friends, office mates, and then from there i set a budget how much i would spend for each of them, for those in groups like officemates and my niece and nephews i try to buy items that are unisex and in bulk so i don't need to choose so many for each of them and it also avoid being envy with what i gave the other. then you can also do some innovation for your christmas decorations at home, last time i did a DIY christmas decors using papers and boards, there is a lot of craft in the internet it is cheap, simple but nice. I hope i helps you in some ways. Happy Holidays!!!

SomeCowgirl (8053) | 3 months ago | Preparing a list is a very sensible Idea. It helps to figure out what everyone wants/ needs/ you think they'd like, and also helps with keeping up with the finances. I don't have a job, but my husband does. Either way, we'll be buying for family only, and a close friend. We're not sure how much money we'll have to spend this year, it depends on his check and what I make from mylot. Giving gifts that are made are a nice idea. Making your own decorations are nice as well. My husband's family has a tradition of getting an ornament every Christmas for the Christmas tree, I think it's a nice tradition.
I appreciate your advices, and they were very helpful. I hope you have fun shopping for friends, family and colleagues!
