hi fulltank well its been many years since I had little
ones but I think the most common accidents kids have are '
on the swings and on the slides, falls, bumping into things
and how can it be avoided, well I don't know as it can really'because kids being so active are bound to run into
something. you can suggest to your daughter not to jump off'the swings when she is going really high, and dontput your fingers into chain links if the swings are hung by chains with links in them. also not to clown around on the slides, most accidents there are because someone is not using the slide the way they are supposed to, but trying out goofy things that can cause falls and result in painful bruises.

You can't avoid it. You can't put her in a glass case and keep her on the shelf. You have to let her be a kid. Kids get bumps, bruises, scratches and all sorts of things like that. Sometimes bones get broken. It's all a part of growing up.
All of these things go away and are forgotten. A parent who doesn't let a child be a child grows resentment that may never go away.

is it so? but can we avoid some accidents that will hunt our children in the future?

myLot reputation of 72/100. irishidid (3032)  2 months ago

You can make some less likely to happen. Teach her the right way to cross the street. Make sure your house is safe for her.
Bruises are the least of things. They go away and I've never seen a kid who doesn't have a few from just playing. Bumps and bruises are a part of life. If that's the worst that happens to her consider yourself very lucky.
With my kids I've dealt with broken bones, stitches, etc. All my kids grew up just fine and none the worse for wear.

I agree with you irishidid. Instead of telling the children all the "do not do these and that", teach her instead "to do these and that". From there, the child will learn how to avoid getting those accidents and eventually being hurt. A parent who wouldn't allow their children to play will always worry that their children will get hurt. Teach the child to do things right and let them discover their limitations.

When I was a kid, I got lots of bruises and cuts from playing. Once a chid is at play, he can't anymore control his acts and become hyperactive that most of the time it ends up in accidents no matter how many times you remind them to be careful.

hi fulltank! i've got two boys (7 & 4 year olds) and i can't tell you how frustrated i am on trying to subdue them. they're such active kids that i sometimes just give up and let them play to their heart's content. my 4 year old is such a dear, when he falls he'll immediately go to me and make me kiss the part where it hurts and we'll pretend it didn't happen and the pain will go away. i just wish that's the only hurts they'll encounter because beyond that i think will be a nightmare!

Hi Fulltank,

I have 2 kids, 10 and 6, both boys. Like you, I worry a lot when I see bruises on them, the most common ones they usually get from playing outdoor games - bumps and scratches from doing physical activities, or just playing with other kids.

Since I know I can't always be there to prevent them from getting hurt, I instead tell them what to do when faced with it. In school I tell them where the school clinic is in case they need medical attention. At home, I have a ready first aid kit. I also tell them to be prudent in choosing their games, not to go to danger prone areas like busy streets, play with sharp objects, and go to places where they can catch deadly diseases like dengue, malaria, etc.

I guess its a facts of life. But even small accidents make me worry a lot. Just imagining my daughter having a dengue fever makes it a lot worse.
