Does uniform really an important thing for Schools?

I think that there are both good points and bad points about wearing uniforms in school. On the plus side, every one is wearing the same thing so there is no teasing about the way their outfit looks. On the down side, it takes away from a person's individuality and does not allow them to express themselves in the way they dress.

A uniform is like gang colors. You are identified as part of a select group. This can be positive or negitive depending on how the person feels.

I think uniforms are must in schools because then everybody will be treated as same. There will be no biasness on the basis of looks or background of any student
But I think there should be no uniforms in colleges because when a student enters in a college he/she feels a sense of freedom and after wearing uniform for so many years in school who would want to wear them again? So college students should be allowed to wear what they want to wear. Because after college when they will join any organization,they will again have to follow dress codes so c'mon give them freedom anywhere at least in colleges.

Uniform shows a school's or identity. In my older son's school Years 6, 7 and 8 wear one uniform and the Years 10 and 11 where different uniform. It sets apart the younger from the older students. In college students in my home country usually wear their own clothes.

I am a primary school teacher. There has been a school uniform for each class in every school that I have taught in. Although when I was a student teacher I taught in a school where the children had their own clothing on. It was winter and some girls had summer dresses on and a few boys had wellington boats on. Some clothing was old and dirty looking and some children had fancy looking outfits on. It showed to me that school uniform is an excellent idea.

Uniforms reduce discrimination to certain degrees. As stated above, non-uniform scenarios may lead to show off and complexes.... I think small children are very receptive to these attributes and it must be avoided.

For myself, I liked uniform in my school days as it saved me from the trouble 'now what to wear today?' LOL

When I was in grade school and high school, I wore uniforms to school. When I got to college there was no uniform. All of my schooling was from same school. Most private schools in the Philippines during my time had uniforms and public elementary schools did not have uniforms. Now most schools public and private have uniforms from pre-school to college except from university where I went to.
Uniforms are important to identify which school you came from and parents don't have to spend more on clothes. I think the uniforms are important for pre-school to high school but for college students it's not important. Anyways there are courses that require uniforms especially during internships.

This topic has been a big discussed issue in several countries. I used to study in the country where school uniform was a must and those who didn't wear it would be sent back home and change the costume. For me, uniform means nothing for school. Academic expectation is everything. I remember a lot of students wanted to contribute themselves in 'deleting uniform' scheme but it would never happen. The only reason the school uniform is applied is that the students will be 'the same' without bringing their 'heritage' to the school. I don't think it's more than that.

Personally I like them, I hated them at school, I have always thought school was for learning and it shouldn't matter what a person wears, they certainly don't make it easier to learn, just my opinion.

So that a uniformity will prevail. if some students dress better than others it might create a environment of jealousy between students. its not good for young minds to think about it. due to uniforms all students feel like one. also it generally differentiates every school from each other too.

I think wearing a uniform in school these days just takes away a distraction from students. It also allows teachers to focus on teaching instead of constantly policing a loosely structured dress code.

At one time, uniforms were used to put everyone on equal footing. Students with less money would only need to get a couple of uniforms, not an entire wardrobe for the school year. But now, I think it's to put a little more structure back into schools so that they can focus on learning, not on who has the coolest new shoes.
