General Hospital Soap - what's your favorite storyline of all time? |
|
The show is so boring now and I have basically stopped watching, and the previews and spoilers are not telling me any different. Doesn't seem the writers are doing to much with their "playing God" to the town of Port Charles... so....let's back up the PC train and ask
What was your all time favorite storyline on General Hospital? No matter how long you have been watching... what was your favorite story?
Mine was the Ice Princess... when the Cassidines were introduced. Couldn't stand Luke and Laura (when they jumped from the yachet and took "necessities, Laura took a long length of pretty fabric to make a dress out of on the "deserted" island where they were going! Barf bag not included!) But Robert Scorpio and TIffany Hill were the best! The Ice Princess, for those of you that didn't watch back then, was an uncut diamond that the Cassidines had and it got lost and ended up in Luke's hands. But Nikos Cassidine was plotting to freeze the world so RObert and Luke had to go stop him and his "Freeze machine"...and in doing so, the secret password to stopping the freeze machine (PC was already under about 15 feet of snow!) was "ice princess" of which Luke just literraly at then last seconds of the timer.. figures out and types in and with only 1 second to spare... saves the world from being frozen by Nikos Cassidine (Helenas husband) But in the process, Nikos and Anthony Cassidine and Alexandria Quartermaine are frozen.
Sounds rather silly and loopy but I find the most entertaining storylines are those of this "magnitude"! That is why I watch.. to be entertained and what is going on now is far from entertaining.. unless they have Maxie and SPenilli moments! My second fav is the Lucy Coe time when she was married to Alan Quartermaine...talk about loopy!!
So what is your fav storyline on General Hospital?

I liked all the intrigue with Robert Scorpio and Luke back then, neither were made into jokes like now. They were some serious kick butt action hero types. There was another world saving story, I was working so I miss a lot of it, but the backgroud music was the music from that movie Cat People, Robert and Luke were involved. For the life of me I can't remember what was going on. My TV was broken too, at the time so I only had sound, I'd rush home from work and ctach the last 5 minutes in sound only. Even with no picture it was very intriguing. If you could get a 20 yr old to rush in from work in the middle of the afternoon, to listen to TV and not even get to see it, it had to be good. Ah, those were the days.

thelastwolf113 (3054) | 2 months ago | Why do they keep putting underlines on words I didn't choose to be underlined? It's very annoying.

coffeebreak (4818) | 2 months ago | I have noticed that to... advertising I guess. It is annoying but guess it is something Mylot wants to do.
Yeah, it was hokey but at the same time fun, entertaining and intriguing to the point, yes, it did make soaps iconic. SHame.. they were better before they got iconic! The characters are so different now from then. They had point, purpose, structure and substance. Now... nothing buy who beds whom and who divorces/marrys who and who's the daddy.
I bet the storyline you are talking about was after the Ice Princess... Robert and his friend from the DBS, Shawn something or another...they and Luke went against some chinesse rackteer about emeralds or something. I remember the main thing was they were on this sky bucket thing, supposedly between Canada and US (although it was really filmed on the sky tram in Palm Springs, CA) and Robert finally figures out Shawn is now the bad guy and he gets knocked out of hte sky bucket... assumed dead until later I beleive he comes back in a Frisco Jones Aztec storyline and has turned good again. I was working during that time so I only caught episode here and there... VHS'd it, but didn't want to spend the nights watching that instead of playing with my kids.
I usedd to rush in from school bus at 3:45 and catch the last 10 minutes of Edge Of Night in 69/70 when it was still on radio!!!!! We just moved and didn't have tv then, but it was on radio from 3:30 - 4 and I got off the bus at 3:45! Dark Shadows was on at 4 and I listend to that until I got my girlfriend hooked on it and we'd go to her house to watch... until her mother found out and wouldn't allow it!

|
thelastwolf113 (3054) | 2 months ago | Dark Shadows was really unique, I wish they let that run longer. My husband just found some episodes on some cable channel, it was the remade ones and they weren't all that good. The original ones in B & W were awesome

coffeebreak (4818) | 2 months ago | I loved Dark Shadows too. I have watched the box sets on Amazon... but don't want to spend the nearly $40 for a partial season!

2. sender621 (735) | 2 months ago | Hi coffeebreak. I have been a devoted General Hospital fan for years. I couldn't wait to hurry home from school in time to watch my favorite soap. I would have to say my favorite storyline was the romance and wedding of Luke and Laura. Nothing can't beat the chemistry they had together! My second choice would have to be Heather Webber and her storyline in the mental hospital when she fought Taylors for her baby. Her deceptive ways were so exciting to watch! I also loved Robert Scorpio no matter which lady he was linked to. He was fascinating. There are so many others to mention, but they would take up too much space. until the next episode... Enjoy!

coffeebreak (4818) | 2 months ago | After IP... my fav was Heather Grant Webber and her antics about the baby. And then when her mother killed Diana and Heather got the blame and later cleared... that was a good one. Her trips out of the mental hospital disguised as a nurse...back when nurses wore hats and capes... that was ingenious. Later she married Jeff which is what started it all in the first place!!! now... Elizabeth is their daughter.. or was it Sarah?
I didn't like the Luke/Laura wedding thing at all. Iknow it was the most watched wedding in TV history and all that, but I never could stand Laura and started how she treated Scotty after he was so great to her. Then she marrys the guy that r*ped her... that was disgusting. I never have liked either of those characters. Now I don't like them even more!!!
Robert has been my all time favorite character on GH with Alan Q as second. I wish they'd bring Robert back...they did for a brief time on the spin off Night Shift and had that icon of a hero have to deal with cancer....I was not happy that they did that. NOthing against cancer victims and all, but sometimes we just want our imaginary heros to live forever with no problems. And I almost stopped watching when they killed Alan and didn't even let Jason have a chance to say good by and Alan see his son for the last time. That was terrible how they did that

sender621 (735) | 2 months ago | I think the storylines of the 70s and 80s were so much better than they are today. I enjoyed the soap so much more then. What do you think?
| |
|
|
coffeebreak (4818) | 2 months ago | Most definately I enjoyed the 70's and 80's more than these days. Now they are trying to hard to keep up with prime time to the point of just trashing the characters. And when they aren't doing that.. they are dragging the storylines out for SOOOOO LONGGGG, I for one, just get bored with it and could care less "who did it". Please just move on and start something new!!! And anymore, no one stays married.. they just divorce, marry and divorce and marry over and over. Kids have so many "parent" figures.. they don't know for sure who they' belong to!
| |
|
|
sender621 (735) | 1 month ago | I know what you mean. Sometimes you want to write the storylines yourself. Some writing is so predictable that you can say the lines before the character does. But we keep watching, don't we?
| |
|
|
coffeebreak (4818) | 1 month ago | Yeah, sender.. you are right. We all complain about the stupid storylines, but we still watch! I have cut back on the days tho... used to organize my day to be home or not leave until after noon-3, but started not watching and sometimes VHS recording and watching them later in the evening cause there isn't anything worth watching in prime time anymore and FOodChannel was all re-runs!
But I really enjoy our disucssions here on mylot about the shows. I like hearing others comments and thoughts and I like to create a storyline from what they are doing.. of course... a more intelligent, fun or intriguing storyline than what the writers are doing, but maybe they'll contact me one day and ask me to write! In my next life time of course! But it is fun to chat about all that's going on and hope for better in the future.. sometimes they give it to us!
| |
|
|
sender621 (735) | 1 month ago | What would we ever do without our favorite soaps to watch? Face it. We're just hooked. Every once in a while I fantasize about writing a soap storyline. One of my best friends in high school loved to watch General Hospital as much as I do. We raced home from school to watch it together. In our junior year, we tried to write a few storylines. We would try to out do each other on whose storyline was the most outrageous!
| |
|
|
coffeebreak (4818) | 1 month ago | I did that too! I even caught them on radio when we didn't have tv... Edge of Night was on 4:30 every day on the radio! (this was 1970!) But yeah, I think we all are hooked and will be foreever!!!
And that is why I love chatting with fellow soapers here on mylot... we can all come up with better storylines than the writters usually have! And that is fun.... at least helps us stick with the show a bit longer!
| |
|
|
sender621 (735) | 1 month ago | I can remember when General hospital was only on for 30 minutes. Were they ever only 15 minutes? When they went to 45 minutes it was even better. Now almost every soap is an hour long. Pretty soon we'll have to have soap movies. What do you think of that?
| |
|
|
coffeebreak (4818) | 2 weeks ago | They kind of did that in the 80's on prime time soaps like Dallas, Knots Landing and Falcom Crest.. and a few others that didn't quite make it. Those were pretty good too! They started out as an episode a night with an ending but then the "cliffhanger" evolved and they started making them more like soaps... continuing endlessly!!!
But I do remember them 1/2 hour and in BLACK AND WHITE!!!! It is really interesting to see how the soap has evolved... many started on radio and then went to tv.

| 4. Brown_Fox_815 (83) | 2 weeks ago | Wow, this is a good topic! So much has happened. The storyline with the Nikolas lookalike and his crazy wife terrorizing people, which resulted in Georgie locking Brooklyn in the freezer and Brooklyn getting killed. Remember that? That probably wasn't my favorite, but that was chaos! I miss Lorenzo Alcazar! The storyline with the hotel fire, I think it was. There was a scene where Courtney, Emily, etc. were waiting for their men (Jason and Nik) to come out of the building alive. Jason came out and gave Emily this look that made her think Nik didn't make it. Then she started crying. There is also the storyline of Sam and the loss of her baby. Those were some really good acting moments right there. Wow, this topic question is really hard for me to answer...lol. All I know is that I miss Courtney, Lorenzo Alcazar, and Dillon. Dillon is on One Life To Live now, I believe. I might need to come back to this topic later when I can really give you an answer on my FAVORITE storyline.:)

coffeebreak (4818) | 2 weeks ago | Yes there were so many. I remember all those too. I've been watching since 1969 so there have been LOTS!!! Lately tho they have really down graded their storyline writting and drag the storylines out so long that I just get bored with it and coudl care less "who did it" as long as the story ends and a new one can start.

5. Liasonfan (1170) | 3 days ago | I agree with you about GH being so boring now. Yawn worthy, that is for sure. Now, coffee, is this a rhetorical question? What is may fave story line of all time? lol Yep, you really want me to answer this right??? Right?? Well, you'd be forcing me to tell you it is the LIASON storyline of course, which as you can tell is far from over. Loving all the talk about Elizabeth and Jason lately? Not to mention the child that binds them permanently. Every time Jason says he can not be a father to Jake, you do know what that means in true soap fashiion right? And having Sxx come out and say that Elizabeth is NOT happy about remarrying Lucky and Carly saying she hates Elizabeth. Oh yeah, GH is on its way back. Finally. James Franco is interesting so far. I think he is there to bring to light the paternity of both Dominic/Dante and Jake. Yes?
| |
| |
|
|
coffeebreak (4818) | 1 day ago | I was wondering why you hadn't chimed in!!! Yeah, I know the "Liason" stories are your favs!!! I thought that was odd that suddenly, in the middle of all she is dealing with.. that Carly would out of the blue mention her dissatisfaction with Liz!! If she walks out on Jax.. she deserves the crap she will get from sonny and have to constantly worry her kids are in danger. Trashing those two will be GH's Biggest mistake in some time! Oh well!
Yeah, the paternity of all the kids... always does bring catastrophy!
What's the deal with this James Franco? Who the heck is he and why is he so "big" to being on GH?
