We spend for or five years in college to prepare for a job we wanted to do. Some people after graduation, go through a sudden twist of faith. They landed in jobs they were not expecting to do.

My daughter graduated as a physical therapist. But she never had a chance to practice since she landed in a computer job. She seems fulfilled anyway and the money is good so she doesn't mind.

How about you?

If you are still a student, will you be willing to work on something your were not trained to do?

My mom hired after a graduate and she wants me have masters degree that is why she let me do some experience in the field of teaching. Well having an experience is really a big deal when taking up masters. I enjoyed being a teacher. happy

Oh i am a medical technologist but i am doing insurance claims analysis! hahahah Nevertheless, i am happy becaue i like the people that i work with, it gives good pay and i learn a lot! I had no regrets on this.

If i were a student, i wont mind working on something im not trained to do. The human mind is so full of possibilities and i would love to learn anything under the sun...

myLot reputation of 91/100. manong05 (2932)   ranked 218 out of 35,119 in people  2 months ago

Not exactly related, is it? Well the pay is good and you continue to learn a lot so there is absolutely nothing to regret. Being open to possibilities is nice.

have fun Grace. Cheers

Well, college education is not that always sounding as we expect, the fate twists always happen even before we enter into college, and graduation could be another point for them to shift their 4 or5 years of suffocating. For me i m quite satisfied with my college mojor field, it indeed worked out someway, i just feel bit of regret for the time i idled away, were they being developed more effectively, i might have got a better off-start one year ago. My college direction was international business,,more emphersis on marketing, but now i rest in teaching now, surely i m very very unsettled in my heart and desperate one day I can chew my legs out of here. One thing i m still applying into work is English, i learned all the courses in english anyway. Somehow the students, mostly the low-level students don't buy me! more frustrating!

There is always plenty of rooms for change and improvement anyway. It is always a good ambition to excel in the field that we have chosen. Twists of fate often happen and we land on jobs we never dreamt of doing.

Have fun. Cheers!

It's very rarely to have a job which we had studied at university. I graduated my university 2 years ago. Now although I work in the right subject I have studied at school, I feel it can take along time to do the work well. My job requires me have to hard-working, more read and can understand every thing at the first time communication.

I understand. Learning, I think is a never ending process. People continue to learn things and in the process grow and mature. There is really no "point" or "stage" that when reached a person can say "he knows everything there is to know"

Hello. I majored in Business Administration at the University. Since my high school days, I had a passion for doing businesses, especially international. So, I went for that when I go to University. I liked the studies very much too. And, I must say I have been very fortunate to be working now in that line, international business. I have been busy doing business development for the company in different parts of the world.

You are a global worker, that's nice. International business is an interesting field.

Nope. I'm in a junior job to what I am qualified for.
But if that's all you can get then what choice do you have?
Lots of people have little choice in what they do and that's a fact.
The truth is people who end up doing their choice are pretty priveleged.

Yes if what is available and it is good, there is no reason not to grab the opportunity.

I went to school for computer programming, and it was only a vocational technical school. So, I didn't get a degree, just a diploma.

However, my first job was working in an office and setting up a new company for a guy. Then I worked in the finance industry both on the real estate, and the auto side for about 18 years. Now, I am still in real estate (working for myself), but other than that I just try to make what money I can online.

Since I am working online, I am working with computers. However, there is very little programming involved, maybe a little html now and again. But, the languages that I learned aren't even in effect anymore.

What about you? Are you in the same field for which you went to college? I see you are living in the Philippines, that is a very challenging country. I wish you well!

myLot reputation of 91/100. manong05 (2932)   ranked 218 out of 35,119 in people  2 months ago

No,not in any way related. I took up liberal arts but found myself working as a furniture contractor. I see that we have a common interest too. Years back I took a course on pascal programming, though I have forgotten most of it now, not being able to use it. What I found useful is Autocad. I use it a lot in my work. Yes, Philippines is a challenging country, US is even more challenging place to go.

cheers.

Hmmm....

I trained as an actor, so to be honest you don't really expect to be in your 'proper' work a lot of the time! We start out in the full knowledge that 90% of the profession are out of work anyway!

So, I have done theatre, I have worked backstage in wardrobe and as a dresser, I have worked in a theatre marketing office, and I have produced my own theatre stuff (for no money really as everything you make goes back into it!)

I have also worked in a supermarket, a specialist food store, been in charge of the kids books department of a bookstore, and most recently as a barista in a coffee shop!

But, I did my training because thats what I wanted to do, regardless of whether I ever got work, so I don't regretit for a second.

I did not end up doing what I went to college for. I majored in marketing because I had wanted to go in to advertising. But I worked as a Temp as I was going through college, and ended up working at one company as a secretary for 2 years, when that job ended right before graduation I ended up looking for another secretarial job. I should mention that I worked full time and went to college part time. I ended up working at that company for 8 years, until I became a stay at home mom for a few years and then started my own business. I never did use that marketing degree.

I'll do anything for work that I'm able to do. I worked for years in insurance and I loved working in the auto claims dept as a small claims adjuster. I also kept track of their salvage logs and organized the bids on salvage auctions. Loved it and thought I would be there forever. Circumstances change life and I find myself in other situations doing other jobs. I ended up working at a family owned convenience store and I honestly felt I would hate it. I did hate it and it was meant to be temporary until I could find something more up my line. That was 15 years ago. I got close to the family and I got really close to the regular customers. I ended up loving it. The hours are not so much what I would choose any more but I am used to it and just deal. In this day and age I am fortunate just to have a job.
