Gladys Knight still Rocks |
| |
| she's been in the business for 60 years, sold millions of her records, toured all over the world, loved by everyone and is STILL going strong, i have just been watching my fave chat show the Paul O'Grady show and she is one of his guests, she's just sung the fabulous classic song Midnight train to Georgia and i swear every single hair on my body stood up, it brought a mist to my eyes, i have been a MASSIVE fan of hers since i first heard of her, i love Motown, tamela music and Soul music but Gladys is the best i have ever heard....also she has just mentioned that she has 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren...WOW....she looks younger than me, what an amazing lady, she is doing her farewell tour in UK at the mo and i am trying my best to get tickets, i am online searching and searching for tickets but the website is jammed, so her tickets must be getting sold like hotcakes right now, it keeps telling me to try again later...i hope that i get them tickets because this is one lady i would love to see live....so now that you know who my fave motown singer is, who's yours? | | | | | |

| | I love the Temptations. Maggiepie if you have not seen the movie of the story you should. Its possible it could bring enough tears to fade the printing on the no existant birth certificate. | | | |

| | It was a pretty decent movie, but "The Temptations" seems that it was only BASED on Otis Williams' book. There are quite a lot of things that will be kind of confusing, & other things that are not really true at all. An online friend & I had a whole list of these inconsistencies, but I no longer have it. | | | |

| | Well, if you find any lists, perhaps let us know. Speaking of Motown act movies, I don't know if it's still available, but they were selling a two-DVD set that contained two movies. One DVD was the full version of The Temptations, & the other one was Standing In The Shadows Of Motown. Standing In The Shadows Of Motown was more of a documentary that they actually showed in theaters about The Funk Brothers - the musicians that actually played the music that on the records for the singers. By the way, before the Temptations movie, there was a mini-series on The Jacksons (I believe that was also the name of the series). I don't know if it's available for purchase on DVD, but this one took an entire week to show on TV. The only thing I remember about that one was the guy who played Lando in Star Wars played Berry Gordy in that one. Getting back onto the topic here, do you think a movie should be made about Gladys Knight & The Pips? I wonder if they'd call it The Pips. Gladys Knight did write an autobiography. | | | |

| | I sure hope you get your tickets tatty. Do the radio stations there give away tickets to certain callers when things like this are going on? They do here. They will say the 20th caller or whatever will get 2 free tickets and a chance in another drawing to have a private time with the singer and special seats. That would be really nice. I like many singers but I'd have to say she is one of my favorites to. | | | | | | |

| | Gladys obviously has the music business down pat. Since she has succeeded so well for so long she is one of those few people who are what you might call " experts " in producing selling music. There are not many. | | | | | | |

| | Well, many of the Motown groups were influenced by many of the other groups. The Temptations actually started off as a doowop group, & The Miracles (who called themselves The Matadors before their first hit) were seen as a copy-cat of The Platters (a group of guys with one lady as part of the group). Also, if I walked down the street, & asked a bunch of people, "Who was the first girl-group?" when talking about the vocal groups, many would mention The Supremes, or maybe even Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. However, the first group to actually have success was REALLY The Chantels with their hit, Maybe. | | | |

| | Hey, Puddytatt... I don't know if she is classified motown or not, but she is from the same era as as your fav... Mine is Tina Turner. And I was lucky enough to see her in her last show in the United States portion of her fairwell tour last December. My husband and daughter set it all up and I will never forget it. We live in Cashmere, Washington and my daughter showed up one late Thursday night - without my grandchildren. When I asked her why all she said was 'you and I are going out of town tomorrow...' Well, going out of town was an understatement... She pulled out tickets for a concert Dec. 5th in Hartford Connecticutt... clear across the country, no less. She and I went and it was amazing. Not only because I was seeing Mz Tina Turner, but more so because she and I had not done anything together, alone, since the birth of my first grandchild, her son, Eli, 6 years ago. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you seeing Gladys Knight.... | | | | | | |
