what brand of memory cards do you use? |

| hey there! i'm curious, what brand of memory cards do you use? i used so far sandisk and lexar, but i will NEVER EVER use lexar. Why? well, i went to the mountain side, and after a hiking trip of about 6 hours to the mountain top and 5 hours back in town and about 200-300 images taken, my lexar memory card died. and i mean DIED! couldn't retrieve the data at all. tried a lot of data rescue software. none worked. and to get it to a professional data recovery center to get my data back...well, they said it'll cost me between 90 and 140 euros, vat (19%) not included. HM! for that money, i'd rather go and take the photos again! lol. Did you have any bad experience with memory cards? What brand were they? | | | | | |

| | The only ones I have ever had fail were abused...dropped, left in the heat, that sort of thing. I am rather hard on my photo equipment. Cannot say how many cameras I have dropped, on the concrete, in water, you name it. Yes I would go take the photos again myself too if that happened to me rather than pay so much. Too bad, though. Sometimes I do take extra memory cards and duplicate special shots just in case, but not usually as that is extra work and I am not such a good photography anyway. Mostly I just take reference shots for drawings and paintings that I want to do...or fodder to keep my blog running :-) | | | | | | |

| | I use Sandisk and Kingston. So far no problem. I put them inside their plastic box to prolong their life... | | | | | | |

| | I use Sandisk and Lexar. My 8 GB lexar never gave up on me. My Sandisk once refused to be read (or my Rebel XSi refused to read) so I switch it my Lexar. My sandisk can be read afterward though. It is strange :) | | | | | | |

| | I have been using Kingston cards so far. I have not faced any problem with them. I feel very sad when a loaded card dies. Normally when the cards are not in use, I keep them in a dust free place with covers. Normally I take a backup of the data immediately after taking photos, so if the data or the card gets corrupted I can still manage to get the data. I am always scared of the fact that the momeory cards get corrupted and become inaccessible very often. | | | | | | |

| | i see that a bunch of people use kingston. hm... in my nikon manual, kingston is not an approved brand, and one could lose the warranty for the camera for using kingston memory card. that is stupid. i have a kingston miniSD card which i used with an SDadapter for about 4 years. never failed me. as for the data backup...well, i am really really really considering gettin' a ... mobile hdd thinggie to copy my photos onto it. the problem is that i can't take an image and the copy it and then take another and so on...that would be really time consuming. and when a memory card fails, it doesn't fail because you didn't use it for a long time (in which case you supposedly copied the images from it onto a computer or smth), but it failed when you shoot. So, this is not quite a sollution to the memory card failing problem. It could be a half of a sollution (or take your pick in the % scale :) ) if you shoot, get a brake from shooting (in which you copy whatever photos you took) and then start shooting again. On the high end nikon models you can shoot on 2 memory cards, which is quite nice, because you gotta be really really really unlucky to have both cards fail. :) | | | |

| | I use Sandisk and Lexar and have been happy with both. You have to be careful with your memory cards. Of course, don't let your camera and cards near water or heat. Also, if you carry your card in your pocket, make sure you keep it in its case. If the magnetic or electronic ends can rub against car keys, coins, or other items and become damaged. And last, every so often, remove all your photos onto your hard drive or a DVD and re-format you disk. I sure hope you can recreate the scenes you took before. Good luck! | | | | | | |

| | Hi! I also use SanDisk and I think they are pretty good. I also have and a practica memory card that is also good and fast. And I have an Adata card, but it to slow and I think it's not so good. So I recommend the Practica and SanDisk memory cards. | | | | | | |
