| | thanks for the input. how much capacity?,or you mean the requirements to set it up? well here it is. - 1gig or faster (32)bit or (64) bit processor - 1gig (32 bit) or 2gig (64 bit) RAM - 16gig Hard Disk (32 bit) 20gig (64 bit) - direct x 9 graphics device this is the usual, but the higher you have the good it is. also other than settig it up on boot priority, you can't just boot from the usb w/out making it bootable. check it out the full instruction here: http://www.bit.ly/MLIEl this also applicable in all version of windows. | | | |

| | Well the technical issues are not that much in this procedure. To install Windows Vista/7 using flash drive you need a flash drive which can easily accommodate the setup files of the OS(that means complete DVD which is around 2.5GB). So having a flash drive of 4GB(min) or more is the best option. I've stated above as Windows Vista/7 because Windows 7 is an upgraded version of Vista and the booting method and also the boot files of both OS are same. The difference is in just one file which "install.wim" which is the most important file coz it contains whole OS. So if you had created your flash drive to boot Vista then it can surely boot Windows 7 and vice-versa. Also to install Windows 7 using Flash drive your system should support USB booting. Nowadays most of the system support this but if you had a system older than 4-5 years then there are chances that it might not support this. To confirm your system support USB boot check this in your BIOS's boot option and find if there is any "boot from USB" option. Also your system should meet minimum requirements of Windows 7. 1.6 GHz(min) or more processor(preferably higher than P-4) 1 GB(min) or more RAM 16 GB of free HDD space for x86 edition and 20 GB for x64 edition | | | |

| | Thank you very much for taking the trouble of mentioning all the details of the installation. As soon as I upgrade my system to allow Vista, I shall prepare my (I have one 4GB) flash drive for the installation.I believe, thereafter I can forget the installation DVD and carry it conveniently anywhere. Thanks again. | | | |

| | Hi rdsantos, well i use my flash drive to install Vista or Windows 7. I have created my flash drive bootable for Windows Vista and Windows 7. Whenever i need to install any of the 2 OS, i just copy the DVD of Vista or Seven to my flash drive and easily install it in 12-15 minutes. Also its a faster method to install OS and it install OS completely in my system as my DVD-Drive is giving some problem in reading old or scratched disk. So, its the best way to install Vista or 7. But i've tried installing XP from flash drive and i was not successful in doing that. The method i opt was creating my flash drive into DOS-startup disk and then copying XP installation files into one folder. Then when the system boot, its loads DOS and using simple DOS command i was able to start the setup of XP. But the main problem arise when it finishes copying files to a temporary folder and waits 10 second to restart....When the system restart the whole previously done process will start again. I even try to change the priority of drive as i do in case of Windows Vista/7 but that was also not working. So if you can help me installing XP using a flash drive i will be very thankful. | | | | | | |

| | try making your usb bootable using this method, you need one file to accomplish this its called MBRWiz you can find here http://wwww.depositfiles.com/files/9ypqyu0sj download and extract it,no need to install. here's what you need to do: - format the usb (the usual way) mycomputer>right click on your usb drive>choose format - open CMD type: convert x: /fs:ntfs (where 'x' is your usb drive)ENTER cd\ (to go back to root directory)ENTER - on the CMD look for the directory where you xtracted mbrwiz and execute it. ex: lets say you put it on your desktop here's what it looks like: C:\Document and settings\rdsantos\Desktop\mbrwiz PRESS Enter - then type: (make sure you have the cd installer in the dvd/cd rom drive) mbrwiz /list (note down the nmber of your usb drive) mbrwiz /disk=x /active=1 (where 'x' is your usb drive) cd\ PRESS ENTER e: PRESS ENTER (where 'e:' is the drive letter of your dvd/cd drive) cd boot PRESS ENTER bootsect /nt60 x: ('x:' is your usb drive) PRESS ENTER exit PRESS ENTER - now just copy all the files in your installer and paste it in your usb. you can check this topic @ http://bit.ly/MLIEl | | | |

| | Hey bro i use this method to make my flash drive only bootable for Winodows Vista or 7. Using this method that you've mentioned is not for booting XP. I need a method so that i can boot XP from Flash drive. Also i had a 8GB SONY flash drive and i've made it in FAT32 rather than making it NTFS. NTFS is only need if your flash drive is greater than 16GB. But thanks for the info that you've mentioned. Please try to provide me the complete guide to install XP using flash drive. Have a great day........ | | | |

| | 1. Download the Fedora liveusb-creator-x.x.zip 2. Extract the liveusb-creator-zip to your PC 3. Navigate to the liveusb-creator folder and click liveusb-creator.exe to launch the tool 4. Even though the USB Fedora creation process is straight forward, here is a quick rundown of all the steps involved: 1. Select either to Use existing Live CD or Download Fedora 2. Set the Target Device to point to your USB flash drive 3. Move the Persistent Overlay slider to set the capacity to use for the persistent image 4. Click Create Live USB to begin the creation process A nice progress bar will indicate the progress of your USB Fedora creation. Once the process has finished, simply restart your PC and set your System BIOS or Boot Menu to boot from the USB flash drive If all goes well, you should now be booting into your own portable Live USB Fedora 9, 10 or 11. | | | | | | |
