So still your head is up there over your neck right?? No ceiling fans please.. |
Do you people have a ceiling fan in your house, then i'm afraid if you'll be safe with that over your head. I'm saying this only because i've had an experience. Once i went to my neighbor's house to see a new born baby there. The baby was so cute as i didn't want to hand her over to anyone. I took her from the bed and had a walk outside the house, showing her some cats and puppies around. All of a sudden, i heard a breaking sound from inside that house and saw people standing stunned and with their hands on their chests. I was shocked to see what the problem was, the ceiling fan under which the baby used to sleep, had fallen detached from the roof!! So shocking, but thankful to God for having the baby with me safe! I couldn't believe i was there and God selected me as the savior!!! I was so happy that the baby was safe. Later after that, they did the right thing by replacing all ceiling fans with table fans. What do you prefer? Table fan, AC or ceiling fan????

1. involved62 (631) | 2 months ago | I have exactly the same fear with ceiling fans, especially if they are already wobbly. Fortunately, I've had no incidents with a fan falling on me. But, I've seen already a ceiling crashed (eaten by termites) in my country of origin. No one was in the room at that time, so no worries. I have all 3 in my home - a ceiling fan, ACs and some table fans. I'd much rather do away with the ceiling fans but sometimes they are better for circulating the air from the ceiling than with just a table fan where the air moves on the walls.

almightyonline (243) | 2 months ago | That's right, all three have their own advantages and disadvantages too. Hanging a fan can do bad things like what i said, table fans may not circulate enough amount of air all around the room, AC pollutes the outside air! So actually what would be the right choice?!! The reason why the fan fell down was that the roof was not firm as it got softer due to rain.

2. deepuuus (31) | 2 months ago | My uncle had similar experience..This was at night. He was asleep as everyone would be at night. But at some instant he just shifted his position on bed side ways and the next moment he heard some sound and saw the ceiling fan on the bed..but actually the bed was a double coat..which saved him..the leaf of fan was at the position he was lying previously..But this may not be the case every time..Fan could go sideways too.. Well, choosing which fan is better is a tough one..We have been using ceiling fan for a long time..but we often hear such accident..But i have heard more accidents with table fan...especially ladies getting their hair in fan.. but it can be avoided..whereas accidents due to ceiling fan cannot be avoided
| |
| |
almightyonline (243) | 2 months ago | You are right. All the three carry their own risks with them. That was so lucky for your uncle to shift his position! AC would avoid such accidents, but what to say, it's responsible for pollution! But may be some kind of eco-friendly AC devices might come up in recent future, let's wait for that. It's gonna be a great relief if that happens.

3. wookieekyut (315) | 2 months ago | oh God. Now I think I really have to change my ceiling fan with a stand fan. That got me scared.
| |
| |
almightyonline (243) | 2 months ago | May i scare you more? hhmm?? A table fan can be dangerous too! What if your hair or clothes get stuck in it when it's ON? What if it falls on someone? But there's still something to make it safer than ceiling fans. You can keep it in some safe position so that no one gets a chance to have a contact with that, provided it still circulates enough air all around the room.
| |
wookieekyut (315) | 2 months ago | oh ok hahaha.... i will take it from you. i will be very careful with these fans. who wants to lose hair anyway? i don't want anyone's hair to get stuck in a desk fan.

4. jwfarrimond (2403) | 2 months ago | Fans of any kind are not really needed here in the UK unless it's for a week or so during what passes for summer. However I have had one or two encounters with ceiling fans in the US when I've stretched and stuck my arms ino the rotating blades. Fortunately without injury, but they certainly represent a hazard for me when I'm over there.
| |
| |
almightyonline (243) | 2 months ago | Oh.. that would have hurt you right? Lucky that you didn't hurt by that. That's so unusual to escape from injuries after having stuck your hand between rotating blades. I have known guys who finds pleasure in stopping the rotating blades with bare hand! Often they do get hurt but these "daredevils" never give up doing that. Fortunate that they don't try it with their head, why simply burst a balloon that was there with you all this life since birth?

enola1692 (1555) | 2 months ago | sorry I forgot here in south carolina it gets warm in the summer months so we use AC
| |
almightyonline (243) | 2 months ago | Haha...That would've been interesting! I've always had a special attachment to that baby, now she is 4 years old. She also loves playing with me. Now i feel if i were living in some cold country so that i could be free from this tension right. And i'm a kind of person who can't stay somewhere too long if there's no fan switched ON if there's no AC, the climate here is like that.

6. prinzcy (2172) | 2 months ago | I used to have similar experience. During my first year in the hostel, the admin provided us with ceiling fan. It really was scary, especially if you're sleeping on the top of the bunk bed. After a girl nearly got her head decapitated, the admin changed the fans to wall fans. They're not as cold as the ceiling fans but more safer than than them.

almightyonline (243) | 2 months ago | Safety is far more important than comfort. Comfort comes only after ensuring safety right. Why do we always wait for something like that to happen in order to take a vice decision? It has always been a risk for everyone in our college hostel who normally occupy the upper bed. They had to be so careful so as to prevent themselves from hitting the fan which is so close to their head. Wonder how these guys manage to stay safe under it even when they have a nightmare!

almightyonline (243) | 2 months ago | Haa.. I'm just lucky that the Lord selected me as the one to save her. What's important is that she got saved and not who saved right. Hmm, it's really safe for you to have wall fans and stand fans. I often imagine while on bed about the ceiling fan falling down to the floor. Most likely, i'm gonna be safe in such situations as my bed is kept to a side of the room so that the fan is not directly above me. That's the adjustment i did for myself and everyone in my house for our safety.

8. snowdoll487 (300) | 2 months ago | There is a ceiling fan in my room.. I'm already used to its odd sound every night so I can't sleep when I couldn't hear it. haha.*_*
| |
| |
almightyonline (243) | 2 months ago | Haha, that's funny. Normally people seem to be irritated with the kind of sound produced by a fan, I'm one among that group. Sometimes, it's like that. You can't find it normal to miss some simple and unnecessary things that you usually see, hear or experience everyday. Some day you miss that, means your day seems to be incomplete. That's quite normal.
| |
snowdoll487 (300) | 2 months ago | Well, maybe.. or maybe because i'm already used to it.. its been 5 years..*_* But of course I often change ceiling fans when necessary.. but they always to the same odd noise..:P I'm afraid of AC's..*_* I fear the idea of dying because of carbon monoxide.. sheez..:D
| |
almightyonline (243) | 2 months ago | Haha.. that's cool that you are concerned about not using AC because of its carbon monoxide stuff. So you are eco-friendly right??!!! Me too, cheers!

9. tingtong (1030) | 2 months ago | Oh, my head is still there, i'm sure...nice title anyway.... It's a very rare incident of ceiling fans falling down....the hook on which it's hung must have got rusted & might have given a creaky sound for a long time which the people might have ignored..otherwise it won't fall down that easily....we are using them in every room since ages....but u know table fans r more dangerous with small children around..they can pull those fans down. Here, a girl died when her hair got caught in a table fan....our life & death is not in our hands, we have no control over it...u be happy that u could save the child....
| |
| |
almightyonline (243) | 2 months ago | Hmm, you are right. But God gives us chances to save lives, ourselves too, we've to make use of those chances, sometimes these incidents are just symbols or signals to something that should be looked upon. Yeah, even table fans can be really dangerous with children around, who may find an interest in playing with that or pulling it down. That's not gonna be safe. So better option would be AC, but what about pollution?

| 10. beondeblaise (38) | 2 months ago | The situation is so similar here too. I'm having ceiling fans in every room here. I do imagine the fan falling onto me while sleeping directly below it. It has not still happened luckily for me. But i'm afraid if that would happen someday. Now you have made me more cautious about that. Thank God that the baby was saved!
| |
| |
almightyonline (243) | 2 months ago | So isn't it time to change them? Do you have the practice of checking your ceiling fans for firmness on the roof? I think doing that with such fans in your house is an advised safety measure. Also, fixing them firmer atleast twice a year is good. But don't ever hang on a fan, better take some poison!!!
