I went to Walmart and got my eyes examined |
|
Hi everyone... I went to Wallyworld and got my eyes examined for contacts. I normally have RGPs (rigid soft permeables)but I am getting the soft disposables this time, because sometimes I will lose an RGP lens when it pops out and then it is over $90 to replace it, and the prescription is only good for a year, and they won't replace them after that... so I am getting the disposable lenses. Each box has 3 lenses for each eye .. $35 a box which makes $70 for both eyes.
My question is .. do you dispose of yours at exactly one month, or do you ever wear them longer. I know the oils and stuff from your eyes can get into them over time, because they don't repel the proteins, oils, and stuff like the RGPs do... so I am wondering if you have ever worn yours for 6 weeks before tossing them out? If you have worn them longer, how much longer have you worn them?

1. thea09 (4682) | 3 months ago | Hi oreocookie, I haven't used contacts for years as they were such a nuisance in the end that I gave up. I went through both hard and soft ones but never disposable. My friend had disposable ones but they were daily so she used new ones each day, in the long run they might work out cheaper for you as the solutions were so expensive.

3. AmbiePam (15397) | 3 months ago | I do not recommend wearing them for longer than they tell you too. I have those kind of contacts too. I've had gas perms, but for years I've had these kind. At first I wore them longer than they told me too before throwing them out, and it seemed fine. But when I went back to the eye doctor they saw an infection. They flat out asked me if I had been wearing them longer than I was supposed to. And yes, I had been. My eyes didn't feel any different, but they could see the infection and it took a long while to get rid of it. And in the mean time, I wasn't allowed to wear contacts at all.

I know the idea of you wanting to extend the time of wearing them perhaps to save money, but what is better? Trying to save money or risk some kind of damage to your eyes? Just wouldn't be worth the risk in my mind.

OreoCookie3 (18776) | 3 months ago | Yeah, that is true. My eye doc wanted me to get the RGPs, but I told her no, because if I lose one that is $90 to replace it.. so I want the disposables... they are cheap enough to buy them every 3 months though... you get 3 in a box.. 1 for each month.. each eye is a separate box.

5. Shar19 (2792) | 3 months ago | When I first started wearing contacts I was told that you're supposed to change them every two weeks. Then through the years different eye doctors told me that you should be able to go a month without having to change them. So now, I change them about every month or so. I have worn them longer before but have noticed that they do bother my eyes more if I wait too long.

7. daliaj (2865) | 3 months ago | I don't use lens. I also have anti-glare lens to prevent my eyes from the starin of looking at the computer for long hours. I know that there are two types of lens. One type of lens you can use for one year (the same lens), another type of lens you need to change every month. I have a friend who uses lens and she changes it every month. She buys all the lenses for the year at the beginning of the year.

9. CatsandDogs (5139) | 3 months ago | Hi Oreo! I don't wear contacts but I just went to my eye doctor to have my eyes examined because it seemed to me that my reading glasses weren't strong enough anymore and I was right! I ordered a new pair of glasses with Walmart for they're much cheaper than at the doctors office. For frames and lens, it cost us $113. which is not bad at all, thank God!
