Unions want a minority to decide Union Elections |
|
The AFL CIO wants to change the rules for voting in a Union for Transportation workers. By law, because of the necessity of transportation to the National Interest, states that a majority of the workers must vote to join the Union. In the case of Delta Airlines there are 10,000 workers so 5001 employees must vote to join. The Unions want the rule changed to a majority of those voting. In this case if 2000 people vote then 1001 must vote to join the Union then all 10,000 must join the Union. Congress made the law, the Supreme Court Upheld this provision on two occasions and the Labor Mediation Board has also denied challenges to the rule for over 40 years. Now Unions hope with President Obama appointing 3 former Labor leaders to the board that they can over turn this ruling and force more companies to unionize.
It seems that the unions are getting the feeling that they can call the shots with this President.

A country for the people, of the people, by the people? Blah blah blah bull$hit. Regular peoples' needs have not been met and they won't be, this is the way our government is.
What pi$$es me off is, if they don't like the answer, they change the rules. Who figgin messed up is that? It's cheating, lying, manipulating. Ah, exactly what our elected officials know how to do best.

2. irishidid (3079) | 3 months ago | In that case why even bother having a vote. Just tell them they are in a union whether they like it or not. Any vote would just be for show. I do think unions have their place. Anyone who's ever worked for a certain company with the initials J.C.P might agree. A friend of mine's bus company just voted in the union. For them it was the right thing to do.

3. wlee9696 (382) | 3 months ago | I think that the unions call the shots with this President too! The law does not need to be changed. It is a good law for a good reason. The union wants to strong arm people into voting for what they want. The union works through intimidation. When they were first put into place they were instrumental in changing the work place in America. Unfortunately now they are way more interested in political power and money that the workers they supposedly represent. I see no reason why a union in the US even needs to exist today. They don't represent the majority of America, they are rife with corruption and they will do anything for power and money. The worst part - our President will always side with Unions and has already enacted laws to protect them.

4. sierras236 (495) | 3 months ago | The Unions severely incapacitated the car companies when sales disappeared. President Obama's ties with Unions is no secret. A look at his campaign contributions is proof of that. The law should stay in place to protect the Union members not the management. In some cases, the Union actually adds more problems than it solved.

5. anniepa (9303) | 3 months ago | In our local and national elections those who don't vote are out of luck, right? In this particular company would it be an great inconvenience for workers to vote on whether or not they want a union? Unless it's very difficult for someone to get the opportunity to cast their vote I think counting only those who vote is the only thing that makes sense.

ParaTed2k (4591) | 3 months ago | So, you don't think there might be a problem with the unions only allowing certain members to vote? Maybe only those they are pretty sure will vote their way? Remember, in union elections, the unions run the ballot unilaterally. The only time there can be any checks and balances is if it can be demonstrated that the union broke the law, or one of their own policies.
This would allow the unions to hand pick who gets to vote and who doesn't.

anniepa (9303) | 3 months ago | I didn't say that at all. I meant assuming everyone had an equal chance to vote it would be fair to base the results on those that actually voted. From things I've heard about in my area when a union is trying to get into a company it's far more likely that management will try to keep the workers who are in favor of a union from voting and often those who are openly for a union find themselves out of a job.

Companies don't run union elections, unions do.

6. Destiny007 (4561) | 3 months ago | Well of course the unions think that.. without them he would not be president.
Comrade 0bama was bought and paid for by the special interests, and the unions were one of those interests.
