At the Trauma Centre |
|
Last Monday, I was sent to the Trauma Centre of Universiti Malaya as I had a severe case of dehydration brought about by a bad case of food poisoning. There was non-stop retching, stomach cramps and diarrhea. After 2.5 hours, I was treated, blood sampled, put on drip and sent to the observation ward. After 8 hours, when my blood analysis came back negative, I was discharged with a big packet of assorted medicine! I am still recuperating. So, has anyone ever gone through something like this at a Trauma Centre of a hospital?

jonjee0203 (1655) | 3 months ago | Yes, it is an experience everyone can do without. After the observation, everything was okay and I was discharged. Now, two days after, I still have stomach cramps. I guess and hope that will go away pretty soon. Meanwhile I am eating porridge to slowly ease in solid food into the system. Thanks for your concern.

byfaithonly (6299) | 3 months ago | Wow can't remember the last time I knew someone who ate portiage (sp?) kinda brain dead right now:) I was in pain for 2 weeks, missed 6 days of work but am fine now (back pain gone that is)... Few days after being in the hospital a friend came to my house for a bible study and brought another friend of hers I'd never met. Come to find out the new friend is a cyropracter, she 'examined' me in the living room said I had a disc slightly out of place - manipulated it back and the second she did the pain was gone and hasn't returned.

jonjee0203 (1655) | 2 months ago | That is what I call living by faith, just like your moniker. God will take care of you in his own way;in his own time. We all have guardian angels. For me, I am slowly but hopefully aiming to get out of the woods to more normal healthy status.Hope the 'sick symptoms' will recede.

byfaithonly (6299) | 2 months ago | Sorry so long responding found your response buried in emails - trying to 'clean house' on my mailbox this evening:) Yep byfaithonly is what gets me through each day always amazes me how He works - asked a bunch of friends for suggestions when I was going to 'invest' in a domain name. One emailed me 'duh byfaithonly.com' LOL play on my beliefs and name - yep my name really is 'Faith' and I'm the only one that works on the site (with God's help)...
Have been a ton of people at work out with stomach problems and now we've had several out breaks of swine flu in our area:(

2. GardenGerty (20272) | 3 months ago | I have had some mile cases of food poisoning, and also some chemical poisoning from walking barefoot where I sprayed bug spray. I know it is miserable. I have never been hospitalized for it, though, thank goodness. We have an Emergency Room, but not a trauma center in my town.

jonjee0203 (1655) | 2 months ago | Thanks for responding. Good that you need not go into a trauma centre. It is not pleasant. The long wait and the plight you are in; makes the sickness even more unbearable. So, when eating be sure to eat the right food and do not overeat. Be cautious over seafood.

3. zed_k4 (4475) | 3 months ago | Hi there jonjee, I hope you are feeling much better right now. 2.5 hours? I know I would feel so bad during that time. I hope you are recuperating well. Dehydration due to food poisoning. What did you eat, if you don't mind sharing. Luckily you are out of danger.
Take small sips of warm water, aite. And small bites of fruits that will recuperate your health. It's best to seek the advice from your doctor on which food and drink you can take for the time being. Take care yeah and hope you gain full health soon enough.

jonjee0203 (1655) | 2 months ago | Yeah, I am on the mend. The whole episode was driven my some bad food I took. Sadly, no one at dinner had this ailment but me. That is life. They had stronger antibodies that I do not have. Perhaps, they are conditioned to eat such food but I was sheltered because I eat home-cook food at most times. So, be careful what you eat. Eat in small potions;slowly and only as much as you want. Try to avoid overnight curries and seafood such as shellfish, if possible

jonjee0203 (1655) | 2 months ago | Thanks for the well wishes. I am recuperating. There is still some stomach discomfort. No more retching, vomiting and diarrhea which is good. So, be careful when you eat. Eat slowly but adequately. We must wise up and not eat like a king all the time!

jonjee0203 (1655) | 2 months ago | Thanks for the concern. The stock market has a a psychological fillip on me but I am hoping I am slowly getting out of the woods as far as this ailment is concerned. I guess as we age, we need to watch our food intake. what we could i nthe past, no longer apply today. Our stomachs cannot take certain food as the antibodies are weaker. For me, limey stuff is a plain no! no!

jonjee0203 (1655) | 2 months ago | Thank your lucky stars you haven't. It is no holiday;I can assure you that. While you are in pain, they would only register you and do some diagnostics. Then it will be a long time coming until the doctor actually sees you. By then, you would be vomiting and undergoing all kinds of things. Pray hard that you will never darkened the doors of a trauma centre.

jonjee0203 (1655) | 2 months ago | Thnaks for the concern. As a paramedic, you would have known what takes place there. In some places like in Malaysia, waiting time can be long. But it was okay once they have seen you and put you on drip.

9. Bluepatch (2456) | 3 months ago | I have had food poisoning at least twice. The first time was really bad and I went to the bathroom endless times for two days until I started to recover. I thought I would have expired from the inside out. The second time I lay in bed feeling like I was about to die with bags of medecine near me. This is not a good thing to experience at all.

jonjee0203 (1655) | 2 months ago | I had many episodes from food poisoning. The first bad one was when I was touring Thailand. On the way to Chiengmai, I stopped at a half-way station to have some broth and for the next 48 hours, I had loose bowels and a fainting headache. The holiday was a lost cause until I cam home. Told myself never ever to eat street food in Thailand.

jonjee0203 (1655) | 2 months ago | Yes, always eat in safe places. Once the bug gets into the system it will have a fun-fare in the system. You vomit and purge and get dehydrated. They are difficult to flush out and dislodge and it takes plenty of money and time to recover from its attacks!
