cat or dog person??? and why????

Ive now relised that dogs are far too much hassle! when i had my dog i was getting up 2 hours before work to walk him, id then go to work, then go pick up the kids, then cook tea, the feed the dog, then take him out for another walk then theres the added things like constantly checking on them to make sure they arnt getting to frisky with chewing anything, and letting them in and out the bcak door for the toilet, Since i was given the cat theres not more waking up 2 hours early, no more back door opening, no more worry that hes distructing my house, all he asks for is playtime and love and attention that im more than happy to give him. Hes spoilt rotten lol!!!

Dogs are a lot of work that is for sure. Thankfully ours doesn't chew things he shouldn't and never has. He has been crate trained since we got him so we very rarely like maybe twice had him go in the house. He sleeps in his crate at night and unless he is sick he never disturbs us. He does need a lot of exercise that is for sure.

Like i said earlier im so sick of the dog we have at the moment ive pushed her onto my partner (afterall it was him to bought the dog) Ill stick to looking after my cat, Our dog has been crate trained since we got her too but it hasnt made a blind bit of difference its helped with the toileting issues, but she will still distruct anything she can if shes left alone, The vet says its bad behaviour and that we need to put a stamp on it but even our trainer cant get round this doggy!!! But We keep trudging on!!! we wont give her up to the cat and dog shelter because the thought of her sitting in a dingy cage makes me wanna cry!!!

That is a tough thing! I don't know what I would do if I were in your situation. What kind of dog is it?

shes a staffordshire bull terrier, i cant say shes a bad dog though just sooo hyper active i think our pooch has doggy adhd!!! im hoping she will calm as she gets older, but shes fine with my son infact they love each other so at least thats a good thing.

They bark a lot too don't they? At least your son loves him, that would help for sure! I hope it gets better for your sake though.

actually thats one thing that isnt a problem lol, she never barks unless tempted into it, This disscussion is actually making me think more about getting my new cat lol

That's good about the barking! We can't get ours to shut up at times...lol We work really hard with and barking. Funny how we are talking about dogs and it makes you think of cats..haha! Glad you love your cat!

I think the reason im so stubborn with the dog is because i had to have my other dog put to sleep last year!! And she was perfect, she trained like a dream, she never wore a lead, she sat at the roads till i told her to cross, she responded on command like a police dog! I absolutly adored her and i think because she was soo good my expectations have been too hight of then next dog we have gotten it took me a while to get over teegan ( my other dog) anyway, I dont think ill ever get a dog like her again she was one of a kind

oh you will love it when you do actually get a cat they are so stubborn but soo loving and attentive without all the hyperness!!!! im desperate for an egyptian mau, im hoping santa will bring me one this year lol

hi vikkiz, what is special about egyptian Mau cats, I am not too keen on breed kitties I have to add. My personal dream is a cat from the shelter which no one wanted before, maybe an older one who is overlooked constantly but would be attached to her can openers (only dogs have masters, cats have can openers9 and be happy in the last years of her life being an indoor kitty.

The cat i have now is just a moggy and was on his way to the cat and dog shelter if my partner hadnt took him off his friend! I have an obsession with anything that is about ancient egyptians thats why i named my moggy pharoh!, Like i said earlier i never liked cats befoe i got pharoh and now id like another cat to keep him company as i think he can get quite bored in the house whilst im at work, I have already looked into getting a cat from the two shelters that are in my city and neither of them have older cats that will be ok with children,dogs and other cats, And my child, my cat and my dog come first before i bring any other additional memeber to my family so it looks like the only way to go would be to bring a new kitten into the house.

hi vikkiz so lets hope the best that Pharaoh will not slep the little "intruder" when you found a lovely kitten to adopt into your household and also the dog will leave the little one alone.

I can half agree with you on that one, yes sometimes i am a bit of a servant as pharoh will whine and whine to be fed before any other family member!! but then again so does the dog? I think with me soley having dogs all my life ive brought my cat up like a dog lol, he fetches, plays, talks to me and the best thing is he tells me when he wants something or when hes ill, dogs dont do this you have to figure it out for yourself x

my mates cat follows her to the bus stop like a dog! I can't wait to get a puppy!!

I know my cat is like my shadow, he greets me at the front door then follows me round the house like a sheep he even comes to bed with me and unlike a rowdy dog my cat just sleeps on my feet at the bottom of the bed, if i tryed to let our dog in the room shed be on our heads haha! good luck with finding the puppy you want with the right lifestyle youll be fine like i say i just havnt got the time or patience for a dog right now and thats why i stick to my cat and my partner tends to the dog as like kost men he doesnt wash, clean, iron and has more time on his hands to look after the dog.x

I think cats give off that impression as i hated cats too before i got landed with pharoh! i think once youve actually owned a cat its different, mind you they arnt all perfect even though my moggy is perfect and never causes any sort of trouble my friend recently got a new cat and it had distructed her house!!! i couldnt have put up with that, i still hate cats outside and still let the dog out to chase them from my back garden lol, its just my moggy i love.

Omg you must be my twin!!! I totally agree!!! Our dog is exactly the same and even though i do love her and i know she isnt being distructuve on purpose i love my cat sooo much more and its exactly like you say i have a special bond with him, he has accepted the new dog but wont tolerate anything or anyone else, he hates my partner lol he just loves me and im fine with that!!! Mind you he will let my 4 year old drag him round so he aint all that bad lol

My cat is short haired so i dont really get that problem, and yes dogs go way over the top!! when i tell my cat to ''STOP'' he does just that, Cats arnt as stubborn as they make out to be and can be trained exactly like a dog:)

I agree!!! when paying for cat flea treatment it is 10 pound cheaper than dog flea treatment, when buying cat food it costs me 30 pound cheaper per month than my dog, But with dogs you have the extra costs of buyin more and more crates as they get bigger, more and more collars and leads, poop bags, bed etc etc Whereas my cat never distructs anything he owns and even keeps his toys in reasonable condition, cats are far more cheaper than dogs! They are also soooo much less hassle and i think i love my cat more for that exact reason, when i get in from work and i cook tea for the family then i have to put my son to bed and son on after all that i cant be bothered with th dog jumping all over me, wanting to play, wanting treats, wanting walks and just wanting my downright attention 24/7, My cat on the other hand reads me like a book and comes over climbs on my lap and purrs away in a quiet mannor, sooo tranquil.

cats are cuddly and loving!!! well mine is anyway, sometimes i get too much love from him and have to put him down lol, i prefer to cuddle a nice fluffy cat that can fit on my lap as opposed to a big burly dog who just wants to jump all over you and slobber!! lol

I think everyone needs to own one before they make judgement, cats are very very self centred too look at if you dont know that cat, once you get one they are actually very very family orientated, mind you my cat is a house cat so i dont know it outdoor cats may act differently with them being out in the wild all the time, My cat is just a lap cat and i love him loads, i too was also brought up with dogs and still do like them but with work,kids housework,social gatherings (when i get time) a dog is just too much for me to cope with! Its the same when we go on hoilday we either have to get a family memeber to watch her for a week or we have to pay for her to go into a shelter for a week which obviously distresses dogs!, whereas my cat can be left in the house as long as someone pops in once a day to feed him and water him and hes very content with it!!

The toileting is great with my dog, its the distructive behaviour that is annoying me and the constant need for 24/7 attention!!! even though she gets two 1 hour walks a day the my 4 year old will be home with school and she gets about 4 hours play from him, the me and my partner give her a bit play in the garden, but she still isnt tired and will sit in front of you whining and whining for attention like i said earlier she is very hyper and even the vet has commented on how we will have our work cut out with this one!
