Wishing all my Canadian friends "Happy Thanksgiving!" |
| |
| So today is the Canadian Thanksgiving...and I am wanting everyone to wish them all a great day! I was thinking of our Thanksgiving coming up and it occurred to me that I don't know anything about the Canadian Thanksgiving at all...and so I thought I'd ask our friends here that are from that beautiful part of our north American continent what your day is like. Do you eat turkey like we do? And pumpkin pie and do the football laying around thing? Do you celebrate your thankfulness of living through a hard winter like our forefathers did? Could you explain it to all us "southern" relatives of our great continent? | | | | | |

| | Yep, hornswaggled, we eat (or should I say over -eat) all of the same foods and many people watch the football games. Turkey, stuffing, ham, mashed pottoes, and too many salads, vegetables and desserts to name. Add in coffee, tea and assorted beverages, and there you have it. I have celebrated both versions (with my American cousins) and I think the US tends to attach more meaning to the holiday than we do. It just seems to be a bigger celebration, from what I have seen anyways. | | | | | | |

| | That's interesting....is it the same type of meaning? I mean does it celebrate the thanksgiving of a long hard winter in a new world? | | | |

| | I can only speak for my family of course, but I have never attached the meaning of "the long hard winter" aspect to it. Ours is more of a give thanks for the abundance that we have, the love of friends and family, and the appreciation of life as we know it. I was kidding about the football, I don't even know if there is football on tv right now, but I do know that the weekend of the American Thanksgiving, many of us (not including me) are glued to your football offerings! We don't have the parades like you do, we will wait until next month and watch yours - LOL | | | |

| | Well they can have all the football on they want....I wouldn't watch it if that was all there was...and it really is pretty much all there is on the local channels. I do love to give thanks for all the great family and friends I have....it's always been one of my favorite times of year! | | | |

| | Happy Thanksgiving to my canadian friends. I didn't know it was Thanksgiving for them until I came on here and read it. Our Thanksgiving isn't until next month. I hope everyone that is celebrating today has a nice time. | | | | | | |

| | I love Thanksgiving...anytime and anywhere...maybe it's just the food or maybe it's the fellowship but for whatever reason it's a great time of year! | | | |

| | It is isn't it? I guess I just love an excuse to get with friends and to celebrate this life that God gave me. And to appreciate all that He's done for me and mine. I'm glad to be able to say it here too...and not have the fear that people don't understand or are suspicious of my beliefs! | | | |

| | hi sorry guess I should have reread your discussion as I am just another American wondering why Canada is celebrating thanksgiving now but then realizing that that is their Thanksgiving day,so am taking up your time here,I also wonder just what they eat and What is traditional for them? we get so stuck in our own traditions we do not always remember others have completely different traditions, and that is one reason I love mylot so much is to learn from other countries. | | | | | | |

| | I hadnt got a clue that Canada had a Thanksgiving day so it just proves that on this great web site we do indeed learn new things we didnt have knowledge of before. Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian Chumns, both of them, well one really but never mind, one is better than none, I think. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks and the turkey was delicious. My understanding is that we borrowed the concept of Thanksgiving Day from our more southerly brothers. The reason we keep it earlier is because of the shorter growing season. Celebrating a bountiful harvest doesn't make a lot of sense if you just might already be locked into an early winter. | | | | | | |

| | hi, i live in china, and many of us do not know about thanks-giving day. i know it because i was majoring english in my college and we learnt the english-spoken festivals. but right now many of us know about the day, and we would send a text message to friends, falimilies and lover. that's the way we spend the day, never a turkey:) | | | | | | |
